Considering the mounts and bearings from Spyder Performance were only £200, the dampers and dust covers from eBay were about £20, and my indie charged me £550 for fitting (which also included replacing the A/C condensers and fitting mesh behind the front grille, with all parts supplied by me), I reckon I've got myself a bit of a bargain upgrade!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, While I was away for a couple of weeks in the sun, I got my local indie to replace the front suspension mounts and dampers. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a massive difference — I was mainly hoping to get rid of the creaking — but blimey, how wrong was I! It genuinely feels like a different car. The steering feels firmer and much more controlled, the ride is noticeably smoother (none of the old wobbling), and obviously the creaking has completely gone. Overall, it just feels so much more planted and grounded than it did before. They showed me the original mounts afterwards and they were in a right state. One of the bearings had completely seized, the top section of one of the mounts was shot, and the dust covers and dampers on both sides were either perished or completely knackered. So yeah, definitely money well spent. I wasn't expecting such a noticeable difference, but the car feels so much better for it.

Personally, I like to ‘life’ certain components and change them at a particular age to pre-empt failure. Usually high wear items but also marque known problematic components. Tyres about 5 or 6 years old, battery 5 years, dampers 7 or 8 years. My T6 transporter likely to get an egr valve next year along with a DPF flush at circa 55k miles.
