Suggestion

I'd clean the underside as best you can, check the oil level, and inspect around the oil filter, drain plug, filler cap, AOS area, and valve covers for fresh leaks.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hoping for some forum wisdom here. The car has been going along fine.  Never an oil leak anywhere. I drove it down a crazy steep driveway into  block of flats.   I then drove it back up.  Slight scrape both times. I go to park on the street several kilometres away.  Suddenly there are plumes of very white smoke.  like cement dust.  Coming from rhs rear.  I get out and look.  there is an amount of oil on the road (more than a fee drops but nothing mental).  it seems like oil has dropped onto the exhaust.  this freaks me out.  i drove home wondering what the hell is going on. at home a tiny drop falls on concrete.  i look and can see incredibly fresh looking oil dripping down from an upper area.  cannot see upper area.  i can see scrapes on the "short block?".  but nothing disastrous.  no more oil comes out.  no more smoke. is it possible there was oil spilt from relatively recent servicing and the steepness of the driveway tipped it out and onto the engine and then onto exhaust for smoke etc?  the oil looked utterly pristine.  i have done about 4,000 km since last oil change which was only 2 months ago if that.

POST 2Original post

So there are no marks or oil leaks apparent on your sump?

POST 3Original post

Buy an endoscopic camera that fits your phone and go searching, Cameras are around $50 on Amazon order it tonight and you should have it tomorrow. worth every dollar.

POST 4Original post

Did the smoke come out of the exhaust, or from the area of the exhaust? If it was oil leaking onto something it could be from the AOS (the accordion pipe on the bottom is famous for that) or potentially from valve covers.... The severe angle could easily have made the oil drip somewhere else for a brief period of time....

POST 5Original post

Check the oil level and it wasn't making any noise. If it is ok you could start it again. Then try and take the oil cap off. There should be suction / hard to remove.  If it is easy then that is a good indicator that the AOS has failed (either the AOS or, as suggested, one of the hoses has split.

POST 6Original post

The steep driveway may have exposed an existing issue, but I wouldn't assume it's just leftover oil from the last service especially after 4,000 km. If enough oil hit the exhaust to create that much white smoke and leave a puddle, I'd be checking it sooner rather than later. I'd clean the underside as best you can, check the oil level, and inspect around the oil filter, drain plug, filler cap, AOS area, and valve covers for fresh leaks. If you have the undertrays fitted, they can also hold oil and dump it all at once when the car is at a steep angle. If the smoke has stopped and the oil level isn't dropping, it may have been a one-off, but I'd still get it on a lift to find the source before driving too much. Better to catch a small leak now than end up with a bigger problem later.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so after this oil incident which confused me, the car started making a terrible whine.  would be present at start and then go, until it didn't and was ever present.  so off to CMR. as i arrive, once again plumes of white smoke are coming off my car.  GOOD TIMING! anyway turns out it was a ruptured power steering hose. everything perfect now.  i don't know how the very steep driveway led to the kick off of this issue or if it was just the hard lock i was engaging in to navigate out.  coincidence?  but as per poster above, i agree unlikely to have been some oil from an oil change hanging around.  i presume it was power steering fluid. besides that the car is the boss.  i do find i am driving it in manual mode almost always.  the sound it makes when it goes from about 3800 rpm to 3900 rpm does something to my brain that is hard to even know anything about because it is like i stop thinking. i had a little mini that did something similar but it had carbs so i always assumed it was just the intoxicating effect of the petrol fumes.
