Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was having problems with one of the keys on my 997 and so I bit the bullet and spent the $800 to get a new key head from Porsche. On closer inspection when I got home, it looks like it has been glued together (see photo) I called up the Porsche Centre that did the work and they said that it comes from Porsche Australia with a dab of glue and that this is required by law because of the button battery. is this correct? Seems like it will be a problem in the future when replacing batteries!!

POST 2Original post

sketchy..........why not just go through oe of the guys that make copies and code to your car for about $450

POST 3Original post

who are these 'guys' that make copies?  I need a second 'working remote' key  tnx

POST 4Original post

carkeyplus.com.au carkeysyd.com.au Or just google 911 key fob sydney

POST 5Original post

Thanks.  I didn't know they existed.  I've been looking OS

POST 6Original post

I bought a cheap one off eBay, and assembled myself. The original key needed to be destroyed to remove all the components but at around $50 was happy with the result.

POST 7Original post

Depending on the glue used, it can probably be unglued. The 2 easy ones for them to use would be.... Super glue which can be dissolved with acetone based nail polish. Or, typical heat gun glue can be warmed up and it'll give.

POST 8Original post

The ACCC is the source of the following: Under Australia’s mandatory Button and Coin Batteries Safety Standards , any remote containing a button battery must feature a child-resistant compartment (such as a captive screw) to prevent access by young children.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Barry That is what I found too.  Apparently the likes of Toyota spent time and effort redesigning some of their older keys to have a screw added, Porsche decided glue was the premium engineering solution…….
