Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I then drove down to the Alps and after a few days of spirited driving around the mountains (maybe 1500 miles) I thought I’d check my tyres, fronts were fine but rears pictured below were certainly not!

After replacing some suspension components over the summer I then set up my tracking myself using the string box method.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After replacing some suspension components over the summer I then set up my tracking myself using the string box method. The car felt good and certainly tracked straight. I then drove down to the Alps and after a few days of spirited driving around the mountains (maybe 1500 miles) I thought I’d check my tyres, fronts were fine but rears pictured below were certainly not!
Rears were Toyo Proxes (265/35/16) on 996.2 c4, I don’t know how many miles they had on them as they came with the car, but before leaving the UK they seemed to have plenty of tread left.
My initial thought was that it must be due to me getting the tracking very wrong but then it does appear that they have worn fairly evenly suggesting maybe not?
I’m now gong to fit a full new set of 4 Potenza Sport EVOs and get a 4 wheel alignment anyway but would be interested in peoples thoughts? Did I bring this upon myself with poor alignment or is it just normal wear and tear?
Unfortunately there isn’t a “le kwik fit” nearby and I’m not risking a new set of tyres on the drive home so I think I’m going to have to pay for a check.
I would say you probably have a bit too much toe in at the rear, but the wear looks even enough that you probably misjudged the amount of tread left OR the tires are old enough to just wear much quicker than normal. Or it could be that the rear is tracking straight, but in a different direction to the front
Slightly off-topic, but I'll be interested to hear your feedback on the Potenza Sport EVOs once you've had a chance to run them for a bit.
Most people just go Michelin, either PS2 N-rated or PS5 / PS4S but the older tyres have poor ride/road noise and the newer ones have poor steering feel. From what I have read the Sport EVO is a very good tyre for dynamic feel.
I’ve Potenza Sport Evos on my 996 C4 & they are indeed very good. Cisp turn in with predictable feel. Not tried in the rain yet though.
I bought these off the back of various tyre tests where these came consistently in the top 3.
Would definitely recommend & I got a full set for £440 without fitting from Blackcircles. 9E charged £70 to fit so a great all in price I think.
