It does have a paint scuff on the drivers sill and very small area of lacquer lift on top of the front wing so I am having both of those attended to plus Ill get it to Russ at Revolution for a health check / service in the near future

Its MOT day today and the tyres are close to the limit on the inside edges so it needs the tracking doing plus probably a set of tyres

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Any how, you know how it is, a look round it turned into a test drive, a chat became a negotiation and before you know where you are you are at home explaining to the Mrs how you have just bought the car you always go on about and how it would have been foolish not to etc.....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Its been a long time coming but after many many years I have bought a 911
I was trying to avoid Silver as the silver exterior and black interior just didnt appeal, not meaning to offend owners of that colour scheme and I realise it was a popular choice when new
I had a Boxster S with grey leather and I didnt want a repeat on that colour either
I imagined waiting for a green with savanah, atlas grey with red or arena red with savanah or black.
The other criteria was manual not tiptronic and coupe not cabriolet
This week a Silver car with red interior appeared on the scene and as it was very local it would have been daft not to go and look at it despite it being silver

Picking it up on Thursday all being well as the MOT is due at the end of May so its going through MOT next week.

Yes, that was a bonus
Sorry I cant figure out which link to paste so that it display the photo rather than just a link, I have tried all of them and none seemed to display the image
Congrats on your purchase looks like a lovely car and a bit different with the red interior.
Enjoy it when you finally get it home.

Congrats - I like the red interior with Silver.
Any more details - age, mileage, purchase price, service history, your plans and your bank details?
Its a 1999 car, 92000 miles, we were both happy with the price, part service history plus receipts for work carried out in last ownership, including brakes all round and radiators plus drive belts and dansk exhausts. I havent been through all the paperwork to get the full picture yet.
It'll stay as it is I suspect, my modding days are behind me. It has a Clarion headunit so I may look for a standard unit unless I upgrade to a bluetooth unit
As for bank details, theres nowt left but donations welcome
It also has extended leather
The interior was in pretty good condition for its age.

Welcome along DT4. :bye:
Nice straight looking car. Enjoy!
PS. I think Mac is joking as you're parked over a wet patch with your rad right above it.
I absolutely love a sunroof in a car and I really can't get my head around any Porsche other than a GT being more desirable/valuable because it doesn't have one :?:
I think I've opened mine twice in 5 years, when the air con broke. I wouldn't miss it, unless the air con breaks again.
Also looks cleaner without, and little more headroom for your helmet on track days.
There has been a little discussion around this cars mileage on the 996 Facebook group - did you get to the bottom of why it went from 89,492 in 2014 to 76,722 miles in 2016, then up to 89,719 (again in) 2016 in the MOT history?
Perfectly possible that it was a miss-keyed entry by the tester in 2016, but wondered whether you'd established beyond doubt that that was the case.
The cables rattle, the head-room is reduced, it's very heavy (high up, just where you don't want it), it can leak, the drain-holes can block and cause hidden rust; and finally, it can go wrong.
Apart from that, it's great .
Cracking looking car 8)
I do laugh about the sunroof vs non that often seems to crop up, to me it's a just a Porsche anorak thing. I doubt there is a driver on here that would notice the weight difference in the roof on anything but a stripped and well setup track car, on a track and even then:?: If you like a sunroof open in the sunshine get a sunroof, if you don't, well don't
The seller was aware of the debate, he couldnt explain it other than a mistake at the MOT centre, the correction back to 89.7 K took place at the first MOT in the sellers ownership
I couldnt see any sign of anything dodgy, to clock a car by 13k when the mileage is available through previous MOTs seems a bit pointless to me?
I saw that post too... my guess looking at the history was that it had been entered wrong... maybe some missing pixels (hence 'mileage unreadable' at one point). As you say why bother clock it by 13k?
Nice looking colour combo, love boxster red. You might find the drivers window regulator needs to be tweaked (a screw needs removing) as it looks like its in the position for a Boxster and not dropping fully into the door.
Enjoy!
Thanks Robertb
Interesting comment on the window
Does that suggest a replacement regulator at some point
Ive had a boxster and the windows drop by 15 mm or so when the door handle is lifted, does it do the same on a 996 coupe?
I collected the car this afternoon, very pleased with it.
Ill update this thread as I go through the ownership experience
Luckily its a bank holiday weekend so will be able to use it a fair bit, happy days as they say
Short update:
Me and Mrs dt4 went down to the new forest for a few days and took in the simply Porsche event at Beaulieu
It was a 520 mile round trip and the car was faultless
The only things I have done to the car have been to fill a few stone chips on the front bumper with touch up paint as a short term fix
Re-coloured the gear knob and handbrake leather with Boxster red leather dye and also the drivers bolster. The colour match was perfect, I applied the dye, left it to dry and then virtually removed it so that it covered the areas that needed it and not those that didn't, it looks great - not falsely new if you know what I mean.
I have the head unit removal keys for the clarion head unit and a CDR22 on its way so an appropriate head unit will be in place soon
This lunchtime I drove to a not so local motor factors to get the compound and pads to cut and finish the Celica GT4 I have just resprayed, I took the 911 just because I could and it was great
I have used the same motor factors for many years (A.S.K. in Kippax, Leeds) as they carry great stock and are really helpful
A couple of the guys came out to look at the car and were very really complimentary so that made my day.
Good stuff dt! :thumb:
It's all those little jobs that us car people do, that differentiates a special example from a run of the mill one.
Good move on the head unit. Unless the car is a daily, so many hours spent in it in traffic, I don't see the point in a modern, aftermarket headunit. Spoils the look of the cabin altogether.
Hi, I think I bought your Boxster off you last year as I notice your in Leeds and you mentioned the Celica? Dave yes?
If so Im sorry to say that is now in the big old car graveyard. I had a slight misshap with a 40 tonner on my way to work about a month after buying it. If its any consolation it did help pay for a family ski holiday......
Good job on the 911, I do prefer them to the Boxster but cant argue with its value for money.
Bloody hell Graham
Hope you were / are OK
Yes its me lol
I have just about sold one of the GT4's, a guy has put down a deposit so all being well that will go and the money will off set some of the 996 cost
The other GT4 should be finished in a couple of months and once sold will mean that in effect I have traded the 2 Celicas for the 996
Not a bad deal at all in my eyes
Shame about the old Boxster but you look to be doing a great job on the 996, love the ducktail and the new wheels :thumb:
Long story short came off a notoriously slippy roundabout and it snapped then I parked it under the lorry whilst it was still moving.
Driver only stopped when he heard me beeping the horn....turns out I knew the driver's as well. Old aquiantence through VW's. I was fine, no one hurt. Just pride and NCB.
So a year into ownership and nothing has gone wrong
Driven it around 3000 miles but it was off the road for 5 months over the winter
I have done a few jobs:
front drop links
new cat pipe / back box clamps
new exhaust tips
air / oil filter
oil change
oil pressure sensor
Had the off side front wing painted due to some lacquer peal
Its MOT day today and the tyres are close to the limit on the inside edges so it needs the tracking doing plus probably a set of tyres
The squeak / rattle at the off side front suspension is going to be investigated as I cant track it down
As expected, a set of tyres are required plus it was failed for the headlight main beam having led bulbs, apparently the light pattern is not compliant?
It makes the last mot questionnable :?
so I have had the car 3 years now, its covered 7300 miles in that time and the set of tyres are the only significant expense so far (long may it continue)
So, 5.5 years later and I still have the 911.
Its not been on the road for 2 years due to a variety of reasons but Im trying to do the jobs needed to get it back on the road.
I currently have a brake problem that I'll ask for some advice on in the correct section.
