Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there a self identified aftermarket headlight guru/expert here who has tried most if not all of the available aftermarket headlights for the 986? I realize the hate some of these lights get, but I think some of them look nice “in photos” and I’d like to try some silver or chrome ones on my yellow ‘01 Boxster. I was hoping someone has the details on which fit well, aren’t complete junk, trusted sellers, etc etc. $1000 is a lot to spend without some real world reviews. I see mainly two styles. One has an L shape of LEDs at the bottom and one style has two rows of LEDs at the bottom. Are there more? Does the same factory make all of the them sold under different brands? Thanks!

i currently use some chrome lights for my boxster. when i bought the car, the owner had originals + these and an extra spec d tuning chrome headlight. they work very well and fitment has been nice so far. installing and removing feels just like stock so its been fine as is. i do have an extra spec d tuning one for sale @ $150 just because its just the passenger one. works great and i would 100% recommend them

POST 4Original post

Idk about guru but I’ve been in the same boat as you for about 6 years and feel familiar enough with the options that are available. Those 2 aftermarket sets you’ve seen are basically versions 1 and 2 of the same thing, the ones with the L shape led strip are version 1 and had quality complaints reported, and from what I’ve seen people with version 2 like Hamstuh are happy with the purchase.

POST 5Original post

There is a thread on Rennlist in the 986 forum from a company that is building some new ones. If they look as good as they seem, and are reasonably priced, I'll definitely be getting some.

Any idea what became of these? I had email alerts for the post on rennlist, which is completely gone now. Flat-6 has them for sale on their webpage but I haven’t seen any customer install testimonials pop up.

The post was removed because he is not an approved Rennlist vendor. I should have mine this week, fingers crossed.

POST 9Original post

cant wait to find out if those are real or not. all the images look AI generated, but joe rogan follows the company on instagram lol so I feel like there must be some credibility.

POST 10Original post

I'm also in the boat of needing upgraded front lights on my 99. Really I have no clue what's out there and what I should get. I looked at the retrofitlab.com conversions but I don't have any love for anything other than I need something better than stock. Is there already a thread that lists out what we have for options?

This is the un-painted version on my car, it's real, not AI: Flat6 Illumination
