Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

On the inside of that chassis leg there are mounting clips for the brake pipe i reckon it's rotted though on one of those and is running onto the air con pipes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Evening all.
I've had the 996 for 8.8 years now and haven't had a lot of problems with it, although it's been off the road for the last 2 years due to family illness.
Im trying to deal with the couple of issues that need sorting for the MOT, the first one was a problem with the horn which went off whenever you turned the steering wheel, I googled that and fixed the rubber bushes at the back of the airbag contact plate today.
The main issue I now have is a lack of brakes.
It looks like one of the main pipes from the front to back on the driver's side is leaking when the pedal is pumped.
Is this a DIY job to replace them or a job for a garage.
I've taken a couple of photos to try and show the pipe where I believe the leak is coming from
It all looks very crusty under there, if it's the drivers side pipe that is leaking it runs from the passenger side it starts from the junction box about where the back seat is under the car remove the undertray and you'll see it, from there it goes all the way up and over the gearbox to the drivers rear caliper, it can be done at home but it's a big task for some. Its easier to remove the gearbox to do it properly. Or you could re-route it for now until it needs a clutch maybe.
I've had another look at which of the pipes appears to be leaking
I think it's the metal one of the pair that runs under the sill on the offside.
The leak seems to be coming from around the bracket area
The pipes run along the sill and then up into the engine bay
So they are the air con pipes. but it looks like something is dripping /running down on to them to me. If you have a lack of brakes and a sinking/soft pedal the system is leaking. On the inside of that chassis leg there are mounting clips for the brake pipe i reckon it's rotted though on one of those and is running onto the air con pipes.
Thanks
I got someone to press the brake pedal whilst I was underneath and it seemed to be coming from above the bracket in the first photo.
I'll see if I can get another helper and have another look but it's looking like a job for a garage.
I don't know of an independent around the Yorkshire East coast area but I'll ask around
