Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace fan/motor and all is quiet' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'horn of a car a few vehicles back' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace fan/motor and all is quiet' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

At first I thought it was the horn of a car a few vehicles back, but it happened again later in the day too.

Suspected cause
I suspect the Resistor Ladder Network on the steering Wheel Switches, are not properly spaced out (banded) so due to tolerances and temperature effects, the infotainment system might be getting confused.

Suggestion
In her old Leon, the radio would also change station - often happened when turning the steering wheel - a faint, "horn-like" sound.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Today as I was driving on the highway at low speed I heard what I can only describe as a faint, "horn-like" sound coming from somewhere. At first I thought it was the horn of a car a few vehicles back, but it happened again later in the day too. Almost sounds as though its an electronic horn sound, but very faint. I couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from, and couldn't reproduce on command, yet.
Anyone else had something similar?
I agree with Mike on this one. I've experience this problem where the fan bearing was going out and would cause an intermittent howling, horn type of sound. Eventually the tone would be longer in duration as the bearings wore out. Replaced the fan/motor and all is quiet again.
Did you notice if any of your interior lights turned on when you heard the horn? The door locks have a solder joint that fails that can cause the alarm horn to go off when going over bumps.
i had the same issue and posted about it. I determined its wind noise from the windshield gasket. Try blue tape all along your windshield and then go for a drive.
Do you know anymore on how to fix this? I do have a red light on the door lock switch that will not go out. Is this related to the window 'drop down' ? That seems to have stopped working also.
Yes! ...you have described it perfectly! I suspect it might be an infotainment issue. ...this exact sound happens on my wife's SEAT Ateca, and on her old Leon. SEAT, SKODA are beneficiaries of the VAG (i.e. VW & Audi Group) technology pool, from which some Porsche parts might also derive. The phenomenon you describe, like mine, is almost impossible to reproduce, but has happened, seemingly intermittently on many occasions - often when driving with the radio quiet. In her old Leon, the radio would also change station - often happened when turning the steering wheel - a faint, "horn-like" sound. It happened again in today's drive into the office, and my passenger thought a car behind had hooted at us.
I suspect the Resistor Ladder Network on the steering Wheel Switches, are not properly spaced out (banded) so due to tolerances and temperature effects, the infotainment system might be getting confused. The faint "horn-like" sound, might be an "error-bong" played by the infotainment system when the resistor ladder network input is out of bounds. Just my hypothesis on this. When I get the courage, I'll test to see if I can reproduce. Wish someone from the VAG would comment.
