Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Use tapatalk' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use tapatalk' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So my 981 is my first PCAR. I have been looking at older
911
's. I am really starting to like the 80-89's. Pretty reasonable price 35-55K still.
Am I the only one that is now wanting to get an older sister car? I tell you this is a sickness, and my wife will not let me cure it!! UGH! Need to find a way to stash money in the sock drawer and then just tell her it was only like 10K lol.
You're not alone - I have a 1989 3.2 coupe 25th Anniv edition, and a 2016 CGTS on the way soon...! Both in silver and that old / new balance is what I am going for as well. Good luck in your search!

Thanks I saw a few of those for sale so far. Great choice. I have limited my search to blue
, which really limits my options but gives me time to wear the wife down, lol.
Based on my research, if possible go for the G50. Any other tips for search for that year range.Of course rust and PPI are a given. How has yours been on up keep? Pretty easy to work on the garage with a novice level?
Thanks again!
I think the best advice is what you have likely read everywhere - buy the best condition car that you can afford - records, PPI, etc. Good examples can be found in the Panorama and Excellence ads, and at places like Holt Motorsports. Love the focus on blue - I had a 987.2 Cayman in Midnight Blue and loved the color. 3.2
911s
in Baltic blue or a lighter blue are just great.

I'm in the same boat fellas, got a 02 996tt and I have been looking for a 78sc for the better part of the year. Had to stash some cash for my purchase (without her knowledge) and should be able to pull the trigger by the end of the year. All I had to do was grow an abnormally large beard which the wife hated with a passion. I wouldn't shave it off for any of her requests, demands but when she asked if I would shave it for another P car in the garage I took the opportunity and cut my face follicles completely off...

Great topic! BUT I am gravitating towards a project 996. As we all know almost ANY 996 will more than likely be a "project"
I've been thinking about this a lot and am hooked on the DNA of this brand. There is a video on The Smoking Tire YouTube channel of a $9800 996 that inspired the hell outta me.

I am thinking about the 996's as well. They are a lot cheaper. I am thinking the 80's
911
will be easier to work on and I like the looks of them and the size of them.
There was an 02 996 coupe for sale on Pelican a few weeks ago (La Habra, CA) for $12.5k. I thought about it but decided to hold off for the 78

How are they to drive and general maintenance? they aren't the best looking from photos, but I haven't seen one in person yet. I like the price and mid engine. Your blue one looks pretty good though.
somehow the "bad boys" 964 always comes on when I think of an older
911
. I'm guessing they're selling at a premium now.
no one ever complained about turbos then
is it the same over there?
Be careful of what you wished for, the idea might sound cool but if you get one that is about to fall apart, even though it has a great service record, PPI, etc. It is still an old car, things tend to break, and since it's German, everything is expensive to fix. Personally, I've driven both the 964 and 993, my uncle and my cousins cars, it's cool for the weekends but it lack features and comfort that makes it a daily driver. I would never pay 55K for an older car, that is 997
GTS
money. I rather have a high mileage 997
GTS
than a high mileage air cooled
911
. IMO
good point, I am still on the fence. It sounds like a great idea to have an older one until it starts to break a lot. I wouldn't mind some wrenching but not all the time. This would be a 3rd car that would get less drive time than my 981. I am thinking 6k a year on the high side.
Years ago I had an old
911
. (See Avatar) I traded it when I realized that new heat exchangers were going to cost me more than I originally paid for the car.
The plus side to owning an old
911
is that if you have some basic shop skills you can actually work on them. You don't have to hook them up to a computer.
Love my '88 - instant grin on start up.
Another place to go shopping is
The Samba
.

is a good forum to learn more about the cars - many more old 911 owners there than on P-9 (which is Cayman oriented).
