Reported cause

I installed the new flywheel, the issue is still there and I can't select the gear under load, I have already run out of the options because literally everything has been replaced by new parts for the clutch.

Suggestion

Yes I did check the orientation of the disc, it can only go one way (flat side towards flywheel), I have now ordered new flywheel as I thought that the machine shop didn't do the resurfacing properly means the step height is wrong, can't think of anything else

, that sounds incredibly frustrating to replace all those parts with a new Sachs kit and still have the clutch drag when you try to engage a gear.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I recently replaced the clutch with a new Sachs clutch kit . After reassembly I am unable to engage gears when the engine is running. With the engine off, all gears select normally. When attempting to engage 1st gear with the engine running and the clutch fully pressed, the gear will not engage and the car begins to drag forward, which makes it seem like the clutch disc is not fully disengaging. Work carried out so far: • New Sachs clutch kit installed • Clutch master cylinder replaced • Clutch slave cylinder replaced • Clutch fork replaced • Clutch fork bushing replaced • System pressure-bled multiple times • Clutch fork travel measured at approximately 25 mm (just over 1 inch) I removed the engine again and inspected the flywheel. There were burn marks around the outer edge of the friction surface. The flywheel was then taken to a machine shop and resurfaced with the correct step. After reinstalling the engine and bleeding the system again, the issue remains exactly the same — gears cannot be engaged with the engine running. At this point it appears that the clutch disc is not fully disengaging. Could it be the new SACHS clutch kit issue, maybe wring thickness of friction disc or pressure plate spring Has anyone experienced a similar issue with a G50 clutch setup or Sachs kit? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Hey @neosez , that sounds incredibly frustrating to replace all those parts with a new Sachs kit and still have the clutch drag when you try to engage a gear. When you had it all apart, can you recall how the new clutch disc was oriented in relation to the flywheel? Adding that detail might help the G50 experts here figure out what's going on

POST 3Original post

hi, thanks for the reply. Yes I did check the orientation of the disc, it can only go one way (flat side towards flywheel), I have now ordered new flywheel as I thought that the machine shop didn't do the resurfacing properly means the step height is wrong, can't think of anything else so far I have changed the following New SACHS clutch kit New fork new bushing New master and slave cylinder new slave hose flywheel resurfacing (step) I will update when I install the new flywheel which I should get by next Wednesday

POST 4Original post

I installed the new flywheel, the issue is still there and I can't select the gear under load, I have already run out of the options because literally everything has been replaced by new parts for the clutch. I suspect it could be something to do with pressure plate fingers
