This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking to purchase a diagnostic scanning tool for my 03 Boxster S and would appreciate recommendations. I would like to keep the price around $300 USD. I have been leaning towards iCarsoft and Topdon. I do like the idea of being able to use it on my other 2 vehicles (25 Subaru Forrester & 19 Mini Cooper). Lifetime updates and Bluetooth dongle appreciated. Thanks for your advice and suggestions.

POST 2Original post

Your best option is Durametric, but that is a Porsche only system. I have had many customers complain about iCarsoft not living up to their claims. Topdon is a great option, but the only model that I am familiar with that has proven to me to do just about everything on any vehicle and is capable of dealing with the secure gateways on newer cars that block diagnostic access is the Phoenix Max (I own one), and you would be looking at nearly $4,500. All the lesser Topdon units have some limitations with Porsche's, and I do not know which other models have the secure gateway capabilities.

Thank you for taking to time to contribute

POST 4Original post

I have a Foxwell NT710 with the Porsche specific features. It's pretty good, you can test many internal functions, and even do some coding. Not as good as a Durametric, but more flexible as it does OBD2 for any car. You can also get many other brand specific extras, if that's important to you.
