I see people have fitted the 991.1 unit themselves already and said it didn’t need any.

I've just been quoted a smidge under £2.3k inc VAT to have it fitted by Porsche.

And for owners of really valuable 997s, mainly the GT cars, where £3.5K spend wouldn't be a particularly big figure in the context of the value of the car, I suspect a head unit like this isn't much of a priority for most owners.

I saw people asking on a Porsche instagram and it was indicated as summer 2026.
Thanks for the update. That is excellent news. Hoping this one has wireless CarPlay and a better resolution screen than that of the Gen 1 version.
I assume this (if it ever appears) will get rid of the CD and SIM card slots? Those look really naff and date the 997's a lot.
I changed to a Panasonic touch-screen head unit in my 997 gen 2 C4S. OEM fit - so looks really good. Got a new amp and door speakers at the same time.

No idea, I still have the 991RS to be done whenever the product shows up. I am not an avid follower of this stuff, just wanted updated nav and integrated bluetooth and have a general preference for OEM upgrades.

yep the next one is for the Gen 2 so it will be a black surround with different button style to match that of the Gen 2 vibe - unsure if dimensions are same between the two models but it wouldn't look right thats for sure.
Dimensions will the be same and it will likely fit physically in any 997 / 987, but the .2 has a different electrical system and the new unit almost certainly won't work in a .1.
Hopefully it'll be miles better than the unit for the .1 which looks fairly crap. But I doubt it.

Hopefully Porsche have listened to the feedback and not gone with a cheap Chinese manufacturer this time around.
What is wrong with the 997.1 PCCM+?
It works pretty much identically to the PCM 4.1 in the 718, Macan and Cayenne etc.
I would imagine the factory fit are all based on Android.
It works well, the display is good, the auto dimming seems to work well as the ambient light changes.
The only niggle is the fact there was no wireless carplay as standard, but then many of the factory units don't have it either.

Wireless Car Play came out in iOS9 2015. The whole purpose of the PCCM+ is to bring things up to date. Not upto 2014 standards.
A laggy and poor low-res screen too...only 800 × 480 pixels! Truly dreadful in my opinion....rather, a truly dreadful missed opportunity.

Personally, I'd say it looks cheap, which is subjective. Objectively, the display is total crap. And as you say, it doesn't have wireless CarPlay, which is pretty pathetic.
It's not totally horrendous, but but it is pretty crap.
From Rennlist
The PCCM+ II unit is also referred to as 2BOT7-PCM3-NA.
User manual:
https://fccid.io/2BOT7PCM3NA/User-Ma...Manual-8605...
Highlights from the manual:
Mentions Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/n/ac, so I assume wireless CarPlay will be supported.
Supports CVBS reverse camera video.
Supports MOST / BOSE / Burmester external amplifiers, including references to BOSE Surround and BOSE Linear settings.
Supports DAB.
Supports navigation.
Includes a full list of vehicle options.

Actually, no. You have to factor in screen size. It looks to be similar to the unit for the .1 cars, which is 7-inch. That would work out to roughly 200DPI, which is plenty for this device and also a substantial upgrade on the 800x480 130-ish DPI panel in the .1 Plus device. Now
that
was a red card.
Pixel density on this new device is actually looking good. As for the rest of the specs and performance, we'll see.

Thank you for correcting me. That is good news then as the screen res needed a significant improvement over the .1 version.
Is this actually available to buy? Not sure I would as spent £300 on mr12volt that does the job even if resolution and responsiveness will not be as good as this Porsche item. At almost 10x the price I’m not sure I could justify it!
From Rennlist:
I have this from Porsche Denmark – the unit is scheduled for purchase in august – at least in Denmark, and probably in the rest of the EU
so 10 weeks and counting. Anyone going to buy one?
If it looks like the picture above - then no. Looks like a 3-d printed piece of Ali Express tat. Disgusting for Porsche to try and sell that for £3k!
There are so many amazing after-market options for half the price - why are people obsessed with Porsche OEM?
I think I am right in saying that these Porsche units support all the on-board computer functionality that the aftermarket ones presumably don't?
Not that that justifies the idiotic price. But I'd pay a bit over the odds to retain literally all functionality. The price of the 9x7.1 unit was probably about right. Still an obvious rip off, but one you could stomach.
This 9x7.2 unit is, on the other hand, laughable.
It is totally integrated, feels like the PCM from our older Macan to use.
Things like the auto dimming screen, that the brightens or darkens the display with ambient light in the cabin, using the Porsche OBC on screen, as well as adjusting car settings through the head unit, obviously I have the 997.1 version, but you wouldn't know it didn't come from the factory with that unit when using it.
But agreed, the price is too much. I think I paid just under £1200 for mine, which I was more than happy to do for total oem integration, not sure I would pay this price though, especially as there are car play options for the 997.2 pcm that work well for £500.

Thanks for that.
I’d send the links to some unofficial bits before and I think regulation pictures but super useful to have the official stuff now.
Certainly keen to find out a price for getting this fitted.
Be great if anyone gets a quote to share here so we can build up an idea of who’s charging what and from where.
Auto2000 in Bedford are saying they can supply and fit them for £1,700 + VAT so £2K.
The owner of Auto2000 is in a Whatsapp drive group with me and he was telling members this morning about this price.
Here's their site

however the cost will not be on their site yet as it's so new, if you make contact on the site I'm sure they'll get back to you.

I struggle to believe that when the list price is £2700 ex vat and excluding fitting,
I suspect they are confused and quoting on the 996 version which is around £1,600.00
I think they'll find uptake is pretty low if the price is truly £2,700 plus VAT.
That's pricing most owners of the regular 997s and 987s out, I think. They'll think it's just too much. And for owners of really valuable 997s, mainly the GT cars, where £3.5K spend wouldn't be a particularly big figure in the context of the value of the car, I suspect a head unit like this isn't much of a priority for most owners.
Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall in the meeting where the price go signed off.
Sunset has the new 991/991 head unit listed at $3,500 MSRP and $2,800 "on sale" before tax, so it seems like the £2,700 plus VAT for the 9x7.2 version may be true. What a load of b
ks. Makes me like Porsche less as a company. It's such a cynical cash grab.
I've been waiting for this for some time for my 987R but if it really is 3k I'll be keeping the antique..............
mines got BOSE and full nav but as the maps are so out of date I don't trust the nav unless I roughly know where I'm going (which sort of defeats the point !)
I would spend about half that but think that's my cut off

(I posted this on the other PCCM thread for the 991/981)
Note what Porsche are saying
“Depending on the vehicle's equipment, it may be necessary to code the instrument cluster.”
”The existing amplifier needs to be updated to the latest software version.”
“We recommend that the PCCM Plus be installed by qualified professionals. The warranty on the device will be void if the installation is carried out by the user.”
I'd assume that the 'user' also means any 3rd party. Therefore unless Auto2000 provide their own warranty and can code it to the car then I would err on the side of caution.
Makes sense (from Porsches' POV, not mine) they have invested all the R&D to produce it so why should 3rd parties be allowed to undercut them on installing it.
Little bit confused how the navigation works. on my 981 currently there is a map in the driver display right hand dial. If I am using Apple maps/Carplay on the new device, then I will only get turn by turn directions in the instrument display. So far clear enough. But, using the built-in navigation in the new unit, will it still display a map in the binnacle, or is that also just turn arrows?
I really like that wee map! :-)

Almost matches with the leather, so that’s fine for me.
The new 9x7.2 unit isn't hugely impressive, but it definitely looks better than a generic double DIN head unit in a surround that doesn't match the rest of the centre console control panels. I'd personally go with one of the Chinese purpose-built units over a generic headunit in an off-colour frame, too, but only if the factory PCM packed up. All I really want is to bluetooth music and phone calls. Phone is preferable to CarPlay for other functions because of the limitations CarPlay has for various functions like nav, particularly when it judges the car is moving.
The new Porsche unit is appealing because it retains all functionality. But the price is a joke.

I think the definition of "user" needs clarity, my guess is that they mean "end user" not a specialist audio or porsche specialist. I think Auto2000, and other garages, could claim they're qualified unlike a regular end user. I know that Auto2000 are in close contact with Porsche and have a dedicated account manager, who is quite senior, and they might even be part of the PPN.

porch Colchester has quoted me £570 plus VAT to fit but can't currently quote on price to supply as "T1 new part, price not available"
Go careful though as that could be £570 spent to void your warranty.
I've been waiting for this but that price is way too much. My guess is they are doing a lower volume than the .1 unit due to there being fewer .2 generation cars and that means it is a more limited run with higher per-unit cost.
Then add the Porsche tax on top of that and the unreasonable price of the .1 becomes outrageous in the .2
Been trying to nail it down, but I think there is some doubt over the price.
Think I have seen reference to $1,800 pre tax US, which if correct would come to about £1,600 inc VAT in the UK. Plus fitting. That would certainly be a more sensible price that would still leave space for a huge margin for Porsche.

Doubt that is substantially correct.
I believe the 9x7.2 unit and 9x1.1 unit are mostly the same, bar some cosmetics and a few coding details. I think much of the cost of bring both units to market will have been shared and the 9x1.1 cars were built in very large numbers.

Comparison
Wireless Apple CarPlay versus wired CarPlay on Gen 1.
Wireless Android Auto versus wired Android Auto on Gen 1.
Much better display still 7", but reportedly 1280 × 720 (~210 PPI) versus Gen 1's 800 × 480 (~133 PPI).
USB-C modern front USB-C connectivity rather than the older Gen 1 USB implementation.
Rear USB connectivity rear USB interfaces provide scope for cleaner hidden installations and accessories.
Built-in cellular connectivity Gen 2 has a Nano-SIM slot specifically for data.
Dual-band Wi-Fi substantially more modern wireless hardware than Gen 1.
Multiple ways to get online cellular data, external Wi-Fi hotspot and phone connectivity.
Much better native navigation including online and offline destination searching.
Real-time traffic information including traffic flow, accidents, roadworks and hazards.
Satellite maps and 3D mapping a considerable improvement over the older navigation experience.
Online map updates with the first three years included before a new licence is required.
Online software updates designed as an updateable, connected platform rather than a relatively static head unit.
Deeper integration with the car trip computer, individual memory, assistance systems and various original vehicle settings are incorporated into PCCM+.
Better physical-control integration NAV and MEDIA buttons interact intelligently with CarPlay/Android Auto, while holding HOME activates Siri or Google Assistant.
A newer platform Gen 1 was primarily a way of adding modern media and smartphone integration to an older Porsche. Gen 2 is much closer to a modern connected Porsche infotainment system engineered for the older cars.

Update:
https://boeblingen.porsche.de/de/zubehoer/pccm-plu...
Porsche Germany taking pre-orders to save 5% on the purchase price of 1,799
Even if 1799 translates to £1799 (suspect it will be lower) it is nowhere near the original sky high price estimates.
Also confirms screen res as 1280 x 768 px, not x720 and has rear camera / parking integration.
But still seems to be the case that installation is only possible through a dealer and if you don't have the original phone connectivity (that would fit in the arm rest) then it can't be installed.

I think the amp needs re-coding or something for the Bose - not sure.
I have a 991 (with the Bose) and am waiting to read any owner reviews before taking the plunge. Please do update once you have it.
OPC told me today that 991/981 version is £1800 (VAT included).

In addition, members of Porsche Custodians Programme (at least 15 year old Porsche) can get 15% discount off price if fitted by OPC. If not, between 7 to 10%.

Parts guy said he thought 997.2/987.2 version would be priced roughly the same.
In addition, members of Porsche Custodians Programme (at least 15 year old Porsche) can get 15% discount off price if fitted by OPC. If not, between 7 to 10%.
Remember the mandatory OPC fitting is £1000+vat on top,

that's not what Pork Colchester quoted to me

porch Colchester has quoted me £570 plus VAT to fit but can't currently quote on price to supply as "T1 new part, price not available"
Warrenty is irrelevant to me as my cars been out of it since a year after I bought it (about 9 years ago)
I'll ring them again if prices are now available

yep but by the time they add in the new radio antennas needed then it'll be £1K.
That’s good news it’s less than the £3000 initially quoted.
I spoke to my local OPC last week and they didn’t have the price confirmed but he could see the price they get it.
I will order and probably fit myself if it’s anything like £1000 for fitting. Unless the dealer is keen to sell one and does a deal for fitting.
I have read there are extra wiring needed depending on your cars spec. Bose, phone, reversing camera etc.

I think it's going to end up what it was forecasted. £1800 unit, £1000 fitted (perhaps the higher end for cars needing the extra wiring loom/s and Bose recalibration).
Its gonna be £3K all in probably.
I will hopefully just fit it myself if it’s not too complicated.
I suspect some dealers will do deals for fitting so they can sell the part and post they have sold a unit too.

No but it states must be installed by OPC.

It's mentioned in the FAQ:
"Can the PCCM Plus be installed by the user or is professional assistance required?
We recommend that the PCCM Plus be installed by qualified professionals. The warranty on the device
will be void if the installation is carried out by the user. For information on installing the PCCM Plus,

I've just been quoted a smidge under £2.3k inc VAT to have it fitted by Porsche. Apparently it's the same unit as in the 991.2, which I didn't know.
I'll get it done once there have been a few reviews. Will definitely be handy for me with Waze and Spotify and no more iPhone holders.

By my local official Porsche dealer earlier today... "Our parts team have confirmed all parts should be available from next week and total fitted cost is £2,290.00 inc vat."
That's the extent of their quote.

Yes it does say 'total fitted cost' - I wouldn't expect another £700 on top for wiring or aerials.
Just been quoted £3,393 fitted inc VAT for a 987.2 with BOSE. Unit is £2100 ex VAT. Fitting about £378 ex VAT. Rest is extra antenna, connections kit, bits and bobs.

I assume (ie guessing) that there is a price disparity because of model? I was quoted specifically for a 991.1, so it's possibly more of a direct swap?

The fitting charge is actually ok given we’re talking OPC.
So, it’s odd that they are charging so much for the extra little bits. Looks like £7-800 for what probably costs £50 to supply, if that.
Might be a point for negotiation. I’m sure they could cut the charge for the extra bits in half and still make very, very good money on them.

According to my maths and Redspear999's figures, the extra bits work out at £419.40 inc. VAT. Still a lot of money but not £700+.

Perhaps this quote £2.5k @

It does seem the quotes are all over the place.

with no warranty - so by comparison to Porsche East London - is the warranty worth the extra £361
You get 2 years warranty on all approved used parts.
My original PCCM+ has a bit of an issue after a forced reset. It is 2 years old, I fitted it myself, but Porsche have had a look, agreed there is an issue and are taking the car in next week to fit a new unit. No cost to me at all.

Good to know, that said, to my earlier post, when one factors in the 15% discount then the OPC comes to £2121.....so Parr are more expensive.

I think it's the warranty on the car (991.1 for example) rather than the part itself that would be an issue for me. Having an indy do the work would allow Porsche to avoid any future warranty obligations on the whole car.

Not sure the 15% applies

Not an issue for my no warranty near 16.75 year old 997.

Not sure they can void the warranty on the entire car as you've fitted something non standard or it's not been fitted by them. They need to be able to prove that the new part has caused the issue and then they can ask the punter to revert it to standard.
Yeah I am not sure the Porsche fitting cost is worth a 2 year warranty on the unit if their fitting cost is roughly 30% of the unit cost.
The 15% off with them fitting is nice but you can get 10% off parts just buying to fit yourself.
The only question is if the car needs any coding. I see people have fitted the 991.1 unit themselves already and said it didn’t need any.

I have a warranty chiefly to cover the PDK and the unlikely event it would need a £20k replacement. Even the slightest risk to the warranty makes the 'not sure they can void the warranty' a huge risk. I'd rather pay a couple of hundred over an independent doing the PCM instal to be honest.
The PCM system is digitally networked with the PDK via the car's internal CAN bus network. There's wriggle room.

Agreed there is wiggle room but fitting a new PCCM+ doesn't require cutting into the loom(s), like after market immobilisers etc, so reverting is a much easier option. When I had a warranted car I didn't take chances either as I didn't want to get into a legal dispute with Porsche however they can't simply void the warranty and if they do deny a warranty claim they need to be able to justify why that's my point.

If I have an indy do it and there's a problem with my warranty, can I come back to you?
I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Yes no probs :-)
I can see both sides of this and it comes down each individuals approach to risk. I hated paying well over the odds for re-branded parts (pads and discs are a great example of this), and expensive labour, to maintain the warranty. I think I prefer a non warranted car that allows me to shop around, taking into account reputation and cost etc, and also do repairs myself but I've not had an engine or gearbox go bang yet, that attitude might change if that happens.
I did my 997 when the upgrade came out but to be honest it was underwhelming . Poor resolution and no wireless CarPlay. I doing the 991 in the next couple of weeks which looks a lot better.

The resolution of the PCCM + Gen 1 was woeful. The new one is much better
Factory PCM 3.0 6.5" 400 × 240

But the bezel size either side of the screen looks really cr@p. They just removed the SIM card slot and a couple of other things and kept the screen almost the same size. For £2k!! What a joke.
