Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check display' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check display' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Or fit a Bluetooth voltage meter so you can check the volts without unlocking / waking up the car

Once its live i'll be wanting people to recommend new features too

The colour changes based on the temp of the oil, when its gets too hot the screen flashes red.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So ive been busy building a temp gauge for the 996, currently sits in the din slot.
Porsche logo on startup, then temperature of the oil. The colour changes based on the temp of the oil, when its gets too hot the screen flashes red.
No indeed, I’m not commenting on your own implementation - I think it’s perfect and leaves room to fit more displays there as required. For me, I have the original Becker in it and I want to keep it that way!
At least on the turbo / GT3 you can get a rudimentary temp reading by requesting the oil level through the onboard computer - it tells you if the oil is warm enough or not, however it kicks in well before the oil is at the temp you would want to engage much throttle !
I take it from this and your steering wheel post that you are tracking it, hence it’s an invaluable sensor to monitor
I installed an analogue gauge in my 996 by drilling a hole in the sump wall after removing the base plate. This takes the sensor then it's wiring to the gauge.
Gauge fitted in place of the cassette holder. Integrates nicely with the interior.
I don't ,however, know what temp to expect from this location.
Normal running is about 70° but I have seen 90+ in high ambient temperatures driving in Spain. At least it tells me when the oil is hot enough to start using a few mote revs.
So version 1 i'll be putting into the car at the weekend.
996.2, Oil Temp, Water Temp, Intake Temp, Ambient Temp, Boost. Little touch screen display and an IOS application which can put in thresholds for temps. (Fingers crossed apple allow the widgets into carplay too)
Martin hill give me all the canbus data info. He posted it on one of the threads on here too. I’m assuming he decoded the canbus to use in his company. race technology data loggers and on his 996s
Oil temp i can make availble but would need to slice into the ECU wire for oil temp, and im not 100% what data comes over OBD in the .1 i would need to have a car to test
They are external ones that go onto the end of the valve. I need to get a spare valve stem to look for options for internal ones. Due to the hollow spokes its a bit harder
Internal TPMS would be lovely, the valve stem ones are a bit...fugly.
Schrader released bluetooth TPMS sensors (

), but apparently they won't fit the hollowspoke wheels
Technically, what is the problem with them and hollow spokes?? (I have hollows on my turbo, so curious)
I’ve never understood why the hollows have a metal valve stem
EDIT: I just educated myself via google, i understand now …
So been working on this over the weekend.
It has the following:
Dashboard (Phone)
Add TPMs Data or OBD Data to a dashboard
Different Faces for the guages
Dashboard (CarPlay)
List of the sensors selected onto carplay
TPMs into carplay
DTC
Auto Registers car into "Garage"
Reads OBD Errors
Export Data
Live PIDS
TPMS
Tyre pressure monitor (External or Internal Sensors)
High/Low Pressure alerts
Multiple Wheel Sets
Garage
Lists all cars the app has connected to
Historical DTC Data on each car in the garage
Performance Timer
0-60, 60-130, 100-200Km/h, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile. 1/2 mile
Feature Requests
Ability to who ever has the app can make request for enhancements
Price wise app will be FOC.
If you want Oil Temp for the 996 then a box needs to be purchased and installed. Same with TPMs if you want those you need to purchase the sensors.
I will be allowing multiple different OBD Devices so can either get the one from me or amazon etc
TPMS are being delivered tomorrow. So will get that setup tomorrow and show the oil temp from the 996 when i can be bothered to go to the unit.
But this is a display on the phone for a car id connected to.
Ive been testing with a few OBD devices too.
Cheaper ones = less live data from the OBD port as its slower.
More expensive ones = work a hell of a lot better.
Really depends on what you want to view to log/see
TPM's arrived today. Have a valve for a hollow spoke so will be looking at the options on that in the next few days. The sensors that fit externally thats all wired up (glad i had a spare tyre in the shed to test with)
One 996 Hollowspoke TPM
Looking at about £160 a set for the TPMs. With a years warranty on them. If they no longer work then a free one will be sent out
can signup here for alerts when it comes live

A company in the Netherlands does this conversion. Unfortunately they won’t sell you a kit or tell you how to do it.
I want to let them do mine, but I think the gauge face is really ugly.
would need to split the casing to get to the pcb. Cut the lines that take the signal, and refactor a PCB that needs oil temp from the CAN because CAN goes into the clocks
Ive cracked it. I can now get oil temp for the 996, 986,997,987 etc all wirelessly! i can now datalog everything FAST! so its like having a direct connection via USB. will be taking some logs when im in Germany this week and sending them to the tuner and see if thats what he expects!
Really excited about this. Let us know when its ready i love that the car doesn't have to be modified overly and the read out is on a phone. Although, im an android user

Excellent result. I wonder if any OBD Bluetooth dongle is cheaper than the MX+
I have an ancient Carly adapter but that doesn't read the Porsche specific real time data from the ME7.8 ECU, only OBD values.
I know the CX & MX will work. Other cheap devices only do ELM Commands so may not work. Im going to try a VGATE device too as they are slightly cheaper
All excellent information to think about whilst enjoying a drive… has anyone thought about inventing and installing an oval-ometer to give a live read out of the wear pattern on each cylinder of their beloved 996?
What OBD do you suggest? The MX one and link to the App pls? I have CarPlay going into the car this morning via Kenwood Unit so excited to have that and this. Thanks for the effort
