I asked the mechanic to check everything out underneath when it went for its mot and he said the brake pipes has some very minor surface corrosion but nothing to mention, the other pipes all seem to be fine, I did have the fuel line changed a couple of years ago, I haven’t had eyes on them myself but trust the guy.

No, the seal has just lifted with the heat recently and does not leak the interior is in great condition, I will be cleaning the seats etc but it has only done 87k so no massive wear or hard use.

Suspected cause
I see a little bubbling starting so probably a good chunk of money to sort the paintwork out, if not a full respray.........!!!

It’s reg number is TOE 11T, as anyone can see it has done very little over the last few years, enough to keep it running ok and get the oil around everywhere but keep the mileage down, I have not needed to use this car as I have others.

If it drives and is road legal it will sell, but as has been said your car may be at the end of its economic life which regardless of use ability may be the limiting factor on price
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, I am new to this site and would like a bit of advice without the usual critical and disparaging remarks.
I have a 1999 996 Carrara 2 6 speed manual showing about 87k on the clock which is warranted mileage. I have owned the car for about 16 years.
When I bought the car it had been registered as a class c due to paintwork damage only ( an ex wife tipped gloss paint over the roof) so no accident damage but I cleaned it up and have never had it painted, which it could do with.
It runs perfectly and has been mot’d recently with only the rear tyres being worn as advisories.
I want to sell it and firstly have no idea how much to ask for it and secondly where is the best place to sell it without attracting the Indians offering me 2k for it or the tyre kickers just wanting to let me know how much the supposedly know about Porsches and want to pick up a bargain.
So, any advice would really be appreciated, thanks
Hi Op, pics would certainly help folk offer an opinion on value as a starting point.
Who's ex-wife was it as a matter of interest..?
Perhaps offer the reg so interested buyers can carry out their own due diligence too.
Hi, it was the previous owners wife, she didn’t appreciate him having an affair I guess..
Here are some images of my car to give you more of an idea what we are talking about.
Thanks
Ouch, that's gonna need some work..... nice aero skirts and front bumper.
I see a little bubbling starting so probably a good chunk of money to sort the paintwork out, if not a full respray.........!!!
Rear window seal gone... does it let in any moisture..?
I've no idea on price but i'd take a stab at anywhere between £8-10k based on the pics.
C2 manual's are an attractive proposition, in the right spec in the right condition.
Have you thought about getting some quotes on the bodywork.?
It is a very solid car, yes it could do with respray but it would make a great car when it’s done, it doesn’t really need a huge amount doing to it. No, the seal has just lifted with the heat recently and does not leak the interior is in great condition, I will be cleaning the seats etc but it has only done 87k so no massive wear or hard use.
In all honesty I was thinking 10k as it’s a manual and low mileage, I would probably let it go for that..
Interesting first post. Welcome to 911uk, and good luck with your sale.
You will get tyre kickers, you will get questions as to why you've had the car for 16 years but not corrected the paint, you will get questions about what else have you not maintained during that time. You say that you don't want disparaging remarks yet you make an impolite remark yourself saying who you don't want low ball offers from.
You will get low ball offers
Anyone looking at that might have serious questions about how well it’s been looked after mechanically as it looks tired. With the paintwork on the rear quarter passenger side are those marks into the paintwork? The costs in painting it would vary massively and based off that it would have a knock on with its value. As Pzero has mentioned tyre kickers will probably try it on but in all honesty with how it looks you’re not coming into this in a position of strength
I think you will get very low ball offers (from people from all ethnic backgrounds) because everyone knows how expensive a respray is vs the value of the car, which is not massively high even in perfect condition.
Your alternative is to get it resprayed yourself and then give it to an auctioneer like Manor Park classics (just as an example) and then you get whatever the market thinks it's worth.
It looks a mess. I'd offer you £5k at a push and I'm not an Indian, whatever that has to do with anything. I can see why you'd get lots of "critical and disparaging remarks"
A cheap 996 just means it needs thousands spending on it and without proof of everything done people don't want to take the risk hence expect low ball offers!
Without wanting to sound critical your car imay be almost an economic write off- early 996 3.4’s in great shape are becoming sought after because they are good value but few want an expensive to run car in poor condition even if cheap, they can be jolly expensive to rectify and you know how much a good respray will cost. A cheap respray will be obvious and see the car valueless. A tyre kicker is often a disappointed viewer and by excluding Indians you reduce your target market by illegal discrimination.
If it drives and is road legal it will sell, but as has been said your car may be at the end of its economic life which regardless of use ability may be the limiting factor on price
Put an advert on here and it will sell.
Whatever you chose I hope it works out ok
.
Op, from the pics am I right on thinking you've got plenty of room..? Perhaps consider breaking for spares as I reckon you'll probably get alot more than selling as a car. ...? Engine, gearbox, interior and wheels etc are probably worth more than the whole.
Well the paint work is just one thing although it could be flatted back and a new clear coat may sort it out but it's too hard to tell from here, I'd be concerned about the amount of crusty parts under the car and what we can't see. As it's a 99 C2 it has a good base for a great project for someone who can do most of the work for themselves. If the shell is solid underneath i'd say 10k is reasonable due to the spec.
Thats looks like a significant project, would depend on most recent maintenance work etc. I mena not withstanding the paint, if its been sat a while outside could need tyres, brakes, brake pipes etc. With the info provided, 8k GBP for the right buyer maybe?
I understand what you are saying, unfortunately I have sold other cars over the past few years and have had the same types of people doing and saying the same things time and time again and it gets a bit tedious, so apologies for the disparaging remark but it is founded on fact unfortunately.
Re not addressing the paintwork, when I bought the car I owned a body shop which was very busy and we just never got around to it. It has done very little over the time I have owned it as I wanted to keep the mileage down, however it has been mot’d for the majority and basically serviced, with anything that needed doing being done to it.
Thank you for seeing what I see in this car. I am surprised at the amount of negativity about it, what I see is a genuine 25year old car that sits in order ginal
Paintwork scratches blemishes and all, it only has one very small patch of surface rust and underneath it is great, as born out by the recent MOT. It is a rate 6 speed manual that needs painting and running and actually drives like an 87k car because it has been looked after but driven little to keep the mileage down. If this came from an old boys collection everyone would be saying it’s an absolute gem. It is far too good to scrap and yes if I had painted it 10 years ago everyone would be saying now “oh but it’s been painted and we don’t know what it was like before” well it’s original and you can see what it was like before….
I just know how hard I tried to find a genuine low mileage decent car and it was hard, as most have been out on numerous track days driven by people that haven’t got a clue and if you speak to anyone that knows, these cars bend if not driven right, this one is straight. So let’s not be so negative and look at all of the positives that I certainly see in this car.
OP, here's the issue, you are attached to the car, we are not. You asked for opinions and we offered them, not to be negative but what we see from the pics. As a new member you probably havn't spent an awful lot of time to trawl through all the for sale ads on here for cheap 996's.... there have been plenty. There is much discussion about respray prices and bodywork issues on what are now 25-27 year old Porsches. I stand by my post mentioning breaking and selling as i think that would get more pounds than selling a car that needs serious cosmetic attention that , done right, would cost at least five figures.
We still havn't been offered the vehicle reg so we can only judge the car on what we see and from what you say, that's totally subjective.
What options did the car leave the factory with, how many owners, any oil or coolant leaks. What are the brake, coolant and aircon pipes and hoses like.? How old are the tyres etc etc..... you asked us to put a value on what we see.... you've had a few now.
No mention of service history.
On the little information you've provided I'd stick it up for £9,999 and hope there's someone out there who accepts that's the right price for an entry level 996 'Cat Car'. That type of car is ripe for tyre kickers and those that want a bargain. If you don't want the hassle give WBAC a chance - but be prepared for a shock.
No, you are right I may be too close to the car and probably need to look at it more subjectively, although I know the car and appreciate how good it actually is.
It’s reg number is TOE 11T, as anyone can see it has done very little over the last few years, enough to keep it running ok and get the oil around everywhere but keep the mileage down, I have not needed to use this car as I have others.

Re leaks, again there does seem to be anything to be concerned about, although I need to get the air con re gassed, it was working last year but isn’t cooling as much as it should now.
It does need a couple of tyres on the back as pointed out on the mot.
I hope that this helps
I am cleaning it up presently and will put up some new images shortly to give everyone a better idea of where it is at.
i can assure you that these will not be the photos used to truly represent the car, this is in its absolute raw state and not even washed.
