Take care with Admiral though as ALL options, even factory fitted have to be disclosed which may force the premium up.

Suggestion
Had a renewal come through for my '98 C2 from Admiral - £990 (London, M, 31, 11NCB, Clean licence, S&C) which is quite a jump from the 700ish renewal I was getting 6 months ago.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They are part of March Ltd and the insurance itself was underwritten by Aviva.I used them in the past for my Boxster and always found them helpful to deal with - in particular when I has my car vandalised and had to get it fixed through insurance.
You have Adrian Flux in the list, is that an error?
Ben at MWA was thousands less than them, A Plan weren't much better at £1600 for me.
Hardly a high risk either, 35/no points/no convictions/garaged/restricted mileage/10k car/5 yrs no claims due to living abroad.

+1, I was quoted double the amount of my other quote, 45/3 points/no convictions/garaged/restricted mileage/15 yrs no claims!
Edit: should have said I ended up with an Admiral multi car policy, excellent.

Dont know how you got that - I was quoted over £1K by Tesco via confused.com 5000 miles / annum and I have full NCB no points / claims and am 40 this year! The annoying thing is when you click through the link to buy the price always changes.

I don't know either, very surprised!
All the other "proper" insurance companies (predictably) say don't touch Tesco's, you'll get a high street garage using second hand parts to fix your Porsche in the event of a claim. However, I am pretty sure you can take your car to any garage you choose, right?
Admiral came up with a good multi-car quote, and A-Plan have also been very competitive.
The likes of MWA, Porsche Ins, Carole Nash, are all in the same ball park fig of £1300 - £1400.
Awaiting further quotes from Bridle, Nowell & Richards, Heritage.
CVI couldn't quote as a 2005 car is too new for them. Lots of other co's above are annoyingly closed on Saturday mornings.
Bridle say they can mirror my insurance and NCB from the daily driver car, not anything anyone else so far has suggested...
...if you can find a mature lady to add on to your insurance it drops the premium by around 10%
I don't know why, but try it on one of the collator websites and there you go...
It means your mother can offset your girlfriend (or for the more mature driver, the wife can offset the mistress)
The ones with Mirrored Policies are Bridle and Comp Car Ins, so can leave the main car alone with full NCB intact.
CCI dont offer a courtesy car, but I suppose I wouldn't need that if I have my main car anyway... and they are £200 cheaper.
To go with a higher excess, or not...? hmmm
Symmetry do Chubb cover, which is excellent, and they're a lovely company to deal with.

No affiliations, just they're so good that I won't shut up about them. They might not end up the cheapest (though they did for me and a few others I've put their way), but the difference in service and coverage terms is worth heaps.
Bridle, MWA and Henderson Taylor worked out a great deal for me; ending up going with Bridle as they were a little cheaper than the others - £570 for a Turbo S with no NCB, but a mirrored policy from the main car. Still can't quite believe the price...
My quote this year is cheaper than last from Henderson Taylor. 350 for a 996 C4S in the bad lands of South East London.... No one else can get within 200 quid of that.
Another shameless plug for Bridle. They turned up a well tailored policy for my 944 turbo and are just nice to deal with. Efficient and friendly, definitely worth a call and could save you a lot of time hunting for a decent quote.
Iv just been given a quote from Footman james for a 1999 996 for £524 full cpm with £100 excess.
Thought that was very reasonable as im only 21.
the next quote to that was from a specalist our of a magazine (cant remember the name) but they give a price of £1100
ps i am 40 not 21
Hi there, not sure if this is of any use to anyone as I have not read all the posts on this subject but have just insured with SAGA (yes I know it's for old people) at £260 fully comp with for my 986 I am more than happy.

For glass replacement, most - if not all - of the inscos listed will want to steer you towards their own preferred supplier. Have had a few Admiral-insured enquiries and it is only when the policyholder tries to nominate his or her own preferred supplier, things get a bit awkward.
Hi all,
I'll be making my first foray into Porsche ownership later this year. The change will come after my next insurance renewal though, so can anyone recommend an insurer who will cover a diesel A3 now, then switch to a Boxster without stiffing me with a huge "admin fee" or leave me with a sky high premium for 10 months. I'm 40 with 9+ years NCB if it helps.

I take this back! MWA now R K Harrison have sent me a renewal at £1020!
Last year £11,000 Boxster insured for £820. I asked them to lower the value as it has not been changed for 3 years. Apparently it makes no difference, some rubbish about adjusting the mileage schedule as I drive on 5000 limited miles.
So my yearly insurance company change continues. £866 on go compared even and some of these companies claim to be specialists, joke.
Do they not value continued business or is trying to rob your current customer base just the norm?
I'm having trouble finding many insurers that will quote on a '11 Boxster S because my girlfriend is under 25 - any ideas which are best to approach in this case?
I have just insured my new 5 year old 911 with Porsche Insurance who were the cheapest. Fully comp with 2 drivers, £439 with tracker, £460 without tracker. Tel 0845 600 6502 They don't have a website. They are part of March Ltd and the insurance itself was underwritten by Aviva.I used them in the past for my Boxster and always found them helpful to deal with - in particular when I has my car vandalised and had to get it fixed through insurance.
Highly Recommend!
Hmm. Just went through the rounds of several of the 'specialists' listed here. 55, IAM/RoSPA, full protected NCB, clean license, rural Scotland. Waste of time - anything up to £1400 fully comp for my 997.2 C2S. Ended up renewing with Admiral multicar for £790 for the 997 and our remapped X5. The IAM's own insurance has turned into a complete joke in recent years, BTW - if you don't run a beige Volvo with built-in sheepskin slippers, they won't touch it.
Trying to get temp insurance cover for my 993 which I was going to ship to UK for two months. Can't get cover with any of the big names here, underwritten by UK underwriters. Also tried a few UK companies and they will not insure it either. Anyone had any luck doing the same?
Great list but does anyone have any recommendations for insurers that will cover an older 911 (1988) under a limited mileage classic policy (2nd car an no NCB)
Not for me I hasten to add just in case dewy or domster start thinking I've finally moved over from the dark side

We need pics of GF to comment on appropriate course of action!
It seems that all of the usual suspects for cherished or classic insurance got utterly slam dunked by SAGA on a normal policy with mirrored NCB ...... I was amazed
How do you guys get insured without a no-claim bonus. I am 29, living in London, park on the street, drive 6k miles and for a 997 valued at 25k, the best quote I can get is 1600, but with a 3000 excess. All the other quotes with more reasonable excess (500-700) come north of 3500
BTW. I do not have a no-claim bonus, not because I had accidents or previous claims, but because I never had a car insured in the UK. They won't accept my driving record abroad, because I was not the main policy holder...

Having no no claims puts you at a disadvantage because you have no driving record. you could be good, but also crap at driving.
Not having been in the UK for long could make you easy come easy go, meaning that you might not have a long term commitment to the UK, meaning you aren't bothered with your NCD, meaning this could affect your driving style, or claims that you might make, hence the high excess.
London postcodes are notouriously high, and being a street parked car puts it at risk of being damaged by other cars who do not stop to leave details.
Just for your info, i'm 37 London postcode(but one of the lower risk ones) with max NCD, 4th year of 911 ownership, getting quotes this year of £800.
It will drop once you have some history.
Adding a second driver with some history(even if they very rarely drive the car) could cause the quote to reduce
Thanks Tino
It seems that I will have to bite the bullet and pay 3k this year. Went with Aviva at the end (700 excess, EU cover, breakdown cover, etc), rather than some Irish insurer that is half the price but with a 3k excess which is charged regardless if it is your or 3rd party's fault (allegedly, you can recover the money, but good luck with that).
Here's an interesting one. It would appear to be cheaper to insure my 993 Turbo for use on the road than for laying it up in the garage!
Anyone know of good insurance deal for when my car Wintered off road in the garage?
ok still calling!!!
So far Bridle were the most expensive, followed by Aplan, currently sitting at £1355 with Mayfair!
Has anyone heard of equity red star?

1st central are coming up cheapest on my 981, they do new for old if under a year old, but there's no mention on the site about how they handle optional extras, do they allow you to choose yiur old garage for repairs?
My details
Car - 98 996 Carrera Cab
Modified - none standard exhaust (Dansk)
Age 36 - main driver
14 years NCB
License for 19 years
Have access to another vehicle

Total Excess - 675 (200 voluntary)
When they factor in the clubcard they said they would drop it to 850 if I pay now but I still don't get cover on stereo and windscreen etc
Adrian Flux (might have got name wrong and cant be bothered to scroll back) - Best was 1750
Bridle - Cheapest they could do was 750
Admiral - £590
Excess 500 (250 voluntary)
Protected NCB
Stereo cover
Windscreen cover
90 days european cover
Courtesy car
Can take car to any porsche approved repairer or repairer of my choice though if they don't approve then I might not get a courtesy car

Agree with Admiral doing some cracking deals. Just moved my insurance there (LR Freelander & 996 Turbo). My previous insurer wanted the same premium for the 996, that I now pay Admiral for both cars (and with lower excesses!).
Admiral came up as decent for a multi car policy. However they seem to have max of 5years ncb at Admiral. So once you signed up with them in one years time if they only give you 5 years ncb proof going to a different insurer might proof costly. Currently i have more an 9, well i really have 20 as i never claimed but can't get this in writing. Am i missing something here? I moved about 6y ago from the continent and managed to get a english written proof from my Dutch car insurer which was accepted. But as said it is not clear to me how you can go over 9 y ncb and get written prrof from uk insurer.
P.s. they are masters is intransparency here making price comparisons very difficult. Also the fact you can negotiate on premium with the company was a new experience! Seems odd.
Hmm they actually went up to 14 years NCB for my case based on me providing them with two letters, one showing 9 years NCB and the most recent one showing 5 years NCB.
Had a quote of 680 for 997c2 from Mr Flux , but because it was my first 911 , prev had 986 S , they wanted to fit one of these small tracker things , that you put behind your tax disc , you have to keep it charged up , any one else familiar with this bit of kit , not to keen on that in my car to be honest. big brother and all that.
put my details into confused on a 997.1 C2S - Tesco are £527 which seems fine to me, less than my GTI Edition 30! I have not checked all the details yet was going to ring the guys that used to cover my Elise first, anyone gone with Tesco on their Porsche?

Renewal's coming up soon. 23, Admiral, fc, £598.90.
Interestingly changing the car to a 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa pushes the lowest premium available up to £881.70
Does anyone know why Direct Line rate Targas so much higher than Coupes and Cabriolets? For example, online quotes with identical information:
4S COUPE (06-08) £275.60
4S TARGA (06-08) £390.08
4S CABRIO (06-08) £275.60
I can't beleive the Cabrio is rated identically to the Coupe but the Targa is over 40% more expensive!
Any suggestions?
I am looking to insure a 964RS-NGT. I have phoned a few of the listed numbers but they don't give me much confidence as to their understanding of what they are insuring.
Can anybody suggest a good specialist insurer?

Possibly but More Than and Bell Direct from Admiral rate Coupe/Cab/Targa exactly the same.
Do insurance companies seriously replace cars like for like? Don't they look up the market value and then offer you 65% in cash?
Just bought my first Porsche (2006 997 C4S) and was dreading the insurance, however it's costing me less than my 3.0 Audi A6.
Tried several but best by far was Admiral multi car.

Lying in bed with Norovirus was the ideal time to kill 4 hours chasing insurance. All the price comparison sites, all the well known names and all the specialists mentioned at the start of this trail but glad to announce a RESULT!!
Car Porsche Cayenne S Petrol
Me 35yrs old, company car driver for last 6 years, 3 points, 3 claims in last 5 years, 1 non-fault, 2 bird/stationary object "fault claims". Not squeaky clean.
Wife 32 yrs old, company car driver for 1 year, Kiwi, no claims or points. Miss Goody2shoes (except for a load of parking fines)
Bridle £1800, Mayfair £1600, Tesco £2000, Best from price comparison sites £1000 with £3000 excess
And the winner...Admiral £719 plus £750 Excess inc European etc etc
Worth the time and proof that there is absolutely no shortcut to getting a deal. Price comparison sites just give you a benchmark and where to avoid. good luck
Admiral have just thrown a strop about renewing the 911 on their multicar policy (silly renewal quote) so I've just got a quote from Porsche insurance for a 997.2 C2S - £380. That's about rate competitive with other quotes but does rather usefully include 2 track days (obviously, as long as you let them know in advance). That makes them pretty good in my book…
Just renewed again with Bridle £591 inc.
Comprehensive, £500xs, modified 911 Turbo, 5 trackdays included (2 European), protected NCB, Wife & self named drivers.
The biggest problem with Bridle and quite a few others I have spoken to is that they will not cover a Porsche valued above £40k unless it has a tracker.

Irrespective of which company you use, it is advisable to confirm that you have the option of taking your prize Pork to a repairer OF YOUR CHOICE WITHOUT PENALTY, i.e a OPC, otherwise you will be forced upon an "under the arches" setup using spurious parts in the event of a claim.

I think it's between £80 to £100 per track day. You arrange it in advance.
Just tell him nick with the 997 turbo sent you and he should sort you out.
Thanks will give them a try.

Hardly good for maintaining residuals.... nono
This is something I ask them when I get the quotes, the only one that has come with a quote covering track days and your own choice of repairer so far is Mannings.

Don t do track but I have specifically asked Admiral on my multicar and they said can use repairer of my choice.
Take care with Admiral though as ALL options, even factory fitted have to be disclosed which may force the premium up.
Renewed my car insurance today With John at Pace Ward for £1343 protected, 6 years NCB, Est value of 70k including all mods, tracker needed.
The track day rates are as follows:
Per UK £89.60 including 6% insurance premium tax and our £6 admin charge with a 10% the value of car excess,
Per EU £102.30 including 6% insurance premium tax and our £6 admin charge with a 12.5% the value of car excess,
Nurburgring is upon referral to the underwriter, and can only be a private organised event.
I insure with Competition car insurance. Mannings were very similar in terms of annual cost.
The main differences are.
CCI offer up to 5 track days cover per year (more can be purchased at additional cost), two of these can be EU events however, you have to notify them prior to participating in each track day.
Excess for track days is 1,000 plus what every the agreed standard excess is. In my case, it's 1,100.
Mannings policy covers unlimited track days and you don't need to notify them. However, the track day excess is significantly greater. From memory, it's approx 20% of the cars value.

10% on my policy.
And mine. Not really relevant either as you would be mad to claim for only a few grand of damage.
Another small(!) thing to consider is that many trackday-only policies limit the hourly labour rate to ~£50/hr which won't be enough if it's mechanical work...
good quote today from pace ward 2001 996 c2 and a 1999 merc 320 ml just over £600 full no claims protected limited miles too 4000 on both. can add my motorhome and transit work truck too the policy when they come up for renewal
Returning to the UK after more than 10yrs abroad. For a '14 plate base Cayman, London, street parking, age 39, no NCB, so far I've been quoted; Admiral-£1,350 Bridle-£2,000 and one very apologetic person from Swinton @ £13,950 (was forwarded to them from ClassicLine who couldn't insure due to lack of UK driving history)

More info on this... I called Admiral and was given a quote. The person said if I filled the same info on their website it would be 10%-15% cheaper... and it was. I had to call them back yesterday though as when going through car selection the options went Cayman --> 2014 --> engine size 2.9L. I called them to say the current model is 2.7L. They reviewed and said they'd have to call the underwriter as this wasn't listed in their system anywhere.

Just received a good quote for my 991GT3 from Nowell and Richards as had been heavily recommended from a car collector friend. I spoke to Tom and he knew pretty much everything about my car told me what I was doing and approached a whole host of specialists on my behalf and gave me a chat about which policy gave me the best value. I'm not necessarily worried about finding the rock bottom price of a policy, I'd rather know I'm looked after when I need it as have been burnt before. Couldn't ask more and highly recommended. Have they offered you an agreed value reflecting the current premium over list price on the GT3?
Just thought I'd update this thread;
Competition Car Insurance with track days (7) cover via Bridle with £500xs is £561 comp
Equity Red Star via Flux £300 xs is £365 comp.
Not too unhappy with either and just have to decide if I need the Track day cover as I didn't get out on track last year.
Just edited to add, modified X50 996Turbo, 49 year old driver plus wife to drive, S.D.P. with 5k miles, living rural, car garaged.
Gents, I've received a good quote from Porsche insurance for my new CGTS, any feedback regarding their services? They seem part of Marsh Insurance, quote is competitive.
I was quoted a silly price by Porsche/Marsh Insurance on my new Macan. Surprisingly the best quote I got, by far, was Admiral Multi-Car. I've got the Macan and my Caterham together for £500. Result.
Any suggestions/recommendations - want to insure a 996T that I will leave in storage apart from one or two trips per year. Max mileage would be 2K per annum - rest of the time it would be locked away.
Thanks
Just re-insured my 2008 997 GT2 for an agreed valuation of £150K with ClassicLine, no hassle, no revaluation, includes European, RAC / AA, Window Screen etc, have tracker etc. also includes Track Days providing they are not general tourist days, includes Porsche or specialised Nurburgring organised events, again no tourist day cover. Cost just over £900 which considering the service I've had from them I think is certainly ok considering the car.
Does any of the companies on the insurance list in the original post uses an approved Porsche repairer in case of an accident or they just use their own repairer?
"porsche Insurance administered by Marsh" uses Porsche approved repairer but they are expensive and require trackers subscription.
Thank you
Can anyone recommend an insurer for a classic (964 C4, 1992, if that is a classic)? I insure my CGTS with Admiral (who are very reasonable), but, for the older car, I have some hesitation, as with other mainstream insurers, that they might find it easy to undervalue because there are no direct value tables. Of course, I may be worrying about nothing.
Ive got my renewal next week.
I am with Mannings and I'm happy but wonder if there's another broker/insurer who offer the same unlimited amount of days track day cover that they do so i can get an equivalent quote?
NFU just quoted £475 for a £60k 2011 997 GTS pdk with 8yrs protected no claims for my wife and I in Kingston upon Thames KT2. Only issue is a £1600 excess if stolen.
I went with Adrian Flux on the basis they were supposed to 'specialise' in modified cars. Oh boy i cannot begin to describe the pain i went through conveying to them the list of very straightforward mods to my car. Needless to say i won't be renewing unless as an absolute last resort...

And Adrian Nash quoted £1,207 with a £700 theft excess.
Nice one NFU.
AIB gave me a decent quote on what they called a "high net worth policy". Has some nice things like fully comp on other people's cars, anyone over 30 is comp on mine, like for like courtesy car or no excess if you choose not to have a courtesy car and also agreed value. Only £100 more than a Tesco's who were the cheapest of all other quotes I got.

Just taken out my policy with Classic Line Insurance £414 full comp with guaranted valuation, £24 more than Aviva who were very competitive for my last year but with the reassurance of realistic price if the worse should happen.
Hi All,
A big thank you goes out to Matt at Henderson Taylor Insurance, for helping with my agreed value insurance on the 996 Turbo S.
Matt is a true professional and will get the best policy and price, along with the best service!
It even includes track day cover.
IceBoy
I have no affiliation with HT Insurance, just a very happy customer!!
Never used a broker before but for hassle free quotes I highly recomend Rachel Parkes at Locktons :
2004 C4S - 5000 miles per annum. Two drivers - me 44, no points, 9 years no claims, parked on driveway.
Porsche Club membership included
Optional agreed value
No excess to pay in the event of a total loss claim
Salvage retention
Your choice of repairer in the event of a claim, including windscreen with no change in excess payable
Driving in Europe for 90 days per trip
UK & EU Breakdown cover including homestart
£50,000 Legal Expenses
No midterm adjustment fees
£292 just for me or £328 to include my wife on the policy. Seems a good deal and dealt with really efficiently.
I had Admiral Multi-car policy. Some ald cogger write of my beloved 993! He hit me head on, no fault claim and had back up from police report. Admiral only give me £22000!!! I would not go any ware near them. It was a night mare from the start, had to take the unrealistic amount from them. Yes, you get a good deal but just hope you never have to use them for anything, there useless.
Having real problems trying to find an insurer who will cover windscreen for Porsche replacement, rather than the standard auto glass fit. Have been told by Porsche that extended warranty would not pay out if non Porsche glass used. Halfords broke my glass whilst changing my wipers and ended up having to pay £485 to have Porsche glass.
Spent 3 hours o the phone today and can't find anyone who will offer Porsche windscreen cover. Can be fitted by auto glass for example but needs thenporsche etch on it
Had the same with a battery change recently and ended up having to buy another battery as did not have Porsche sticker on it.
I didn't ever have this problem with my bmw extended warranty
Driving me mad. Please can anyone recommend?
Thanks
Nick

Manning will do the windscreen cover you require, I got a quote off them last week and it's one of the things they mention. They were over double some of my money supermarket quotes but then I guess you get what you pay for especially if you have to use the policy.
I was quoted the cheapest at £434 off Hastings and £1187 off Manning's, most of the others around £500-700. M,43, clean licence, 22yrs NCB, car kept outside on drive.
just thought I would post about my recent experience to give some idea about insurance. I am 27yrs old, and about to collect a new Cayman GTS. I have 0 NCD as I never had a policy in my name. I have no points on my license, live in London and the car will be used for social only, and kept in a secure underground garage. From comparison websites, the best price i was getting was about £1050. Admiral gave me a call today, and managed to get this down to £640 with 2 named drivers. Fantastic price in my opinion considering my zero NCD!

Any other recommendations for insurers which provide good windscreen cover? Interested to compare a few that will cover installation of an OEM screen.
Another recommendation for Manning from me. They just covered cosher Porsche glass and fitter of my choice (Glasstec) at over £900 total cost. Cost to me was £100 excess (vs £60 if i'd gone Autoglass/National non-OEM glass).
They include unlimited track day cover (tho' 10% claims excess applies), and agreed value.
In this instance I'd say you do get what you pay for...
Been on for quotes for new CGTS today, tried Locktons but wouldn't cover due to lack of experience in performance car... Anyone else had this issue (with this or other companies?). Told me they might be able to help next year, told them I wouldn't be bothering calling them! Almost as bad as a few years back when performance direct wouldn't cover a new (to me) car as it had a roll cage, but would have done if I'd owned it for a year.
Feeling grumpy.
My insurance is due in a few days gents...
May I ask how long insurance companies have been carrying out 'credit checks' as part of the quote as it leaves a footprint on your credit history!!!
Do they all do it now?
Renewal price with A-Plan is ok but no trackday cover which Adrian Flux provide for virtually same price

Is that just when you pay via instalments, as it's actually a loan? Or are you paying the full amount?
And generally... what about claims history? It's all very well getting a cheap policy, but will they pay out?

I always pay in full, ended up using a recommended company from here a got a good deal on the renewal so I'm pretty pleased.
Just started shopping around...
Classicline - can't help as only cover up to 7,500 miles a year.
Locktons - can't help as only cover up to 10,000 miles a year.
Ok, I get the idea...
Back to "normal" insurers then...
Renewed with Saga. £367 15k miles, 10yrs NCD.
Queried Porsche windscreen glass and their glass company said I'd need to request a "dealer part" and it could take longer to obtain.
Still have my doubts whether SAGA would authorise this.

Just thought I'd add to this thread...
Am taking delivery of a 14 plate 991 C4S next week so needed to sound out insurers. One of the 'best' quotes (cheapest) was Admiral @ c£780. The car is used regularly and sometimes for work, parked on drive (in SW London), although I do have full 20+yrs NCB, no convictions other than a 3 pointer / fixed fine for speeding 33 months ago.
Although price was good, I'm concerned with such a new car about issues with invalidating warranty if I claim and they refuse approved parts / repairers etc. Also, with a car of this value, I wanted some comfort on valuation price reflecting what I've paid for it, not some ultra low arbitrary figure issued by the insurance companies.
Based on the above concerns I thought I'd ring round a few specialist brokers to see what might be on offer. Some seemed to be geared only towards weekend cars, used for track days etc and wanted ridiculous £££s when they allowed for business use & 5k-6k miles pa. I was expecting to draw a blank but then called Lockton. They do gear up for occasional use and track days however thought they might be able to help as my mileage wasn't that great. In the end they came back with what I thought was a v good price - £1100 pa, £500 excess. This puts the replacement value of my car at the price I've paid for it (dealer's invoice needed to provide proof of value) and all repairs at a garage of my choice along with approved Porsche parts, legal cover, UK & European breakdown cover & 90 days Euro driving cover also.
Whilst this is clearly a big jump from the £780, I'm happy with the additional comfort of agreed value and Porsche parts etc costing me c£300 on top.
Appreciate not everyone will agree this is good value or justified (we all approach things differently eh?!) however for those of you like myself that take a more cautious view, I thought this might be of use! (And for what it's worth I'm a tight git that doesn't like to spend money unless I have to on these things ;-)
bought a 996 c2 recently, called up some specialist insurers (Adrian Flux, Sky, Classicline)- quotes ranged from £460 to £820 for 3k miles/year fully comp with mods declared.
Aviva, my current insurer, came through with <£400 with 6k/year, mods declared. Car parked on a driveway. 6 years ncb no funnies on license.
A list of Porsche and high performance car insurance specialists...
(can this be made a sticky please?)
Good luck in your quest to get the best policy for your needs!

2008 - 997 agreed value of 26K. Fully comp for 6 months of year then fire theft only for the other six as it will be off road. Always garaged and never used for work etc only shows and the odd weekend out. 3000 miles limited and the cheapest i can get is £1100 through Brindle.
Im 48 and never had a bump. Ive been using company vehicle since 18 and they will only take in one years no claim. They even had the cheek to ask if I was used to a powerful car. I had a GT turbo Renault at 18 cheaper.
Looks like im not getting one now as I refuse to be held to randsom by insurance companies.
Another one for Manning. It took a little while to get there but they have covered my GT4, with track coverage for Porsche GB events and also for my 2 day course with PEC at Silverstone for £830.
They were also honest and said I am better going else where for the Macan GTS as they wont be as competitive.
+1 Admiral Multi-car policy
Added a 2003 C4S to my existing policy (40+, central London) - about £600 compared to £800 from AIB for separate insurance and needing to be garaged
I don't understand what they like about me, I'm only 38 and I don't have a garage (just a drive) but I have just been offered insurance on a 997tt for £300.
I didn't take it, I sucked up Admirals profit taking upon changing cars because I'm near the end of my policy (and there's an exit fee) so am paying the equivalent of more like £500, but £300 is what I have paid on my Carrera the last two years too.
Surprised Hastings aren't on the list on the first page.
Another vote for NFU.
Just had a quote from them for my soon to arrive Targa GTS which was 2/3rds the price of the next lowest quote.
And their policy includes either a new car or full invoice cost if your vehicle is written off in the first 2 years. To my mind that saves another few hundred on GAP insurance.
My new 991.2 GTS is due in about 6 weeks, so I've started to ask for insurance quotes.
Can I ask if most insurers insist on the tracker being activated? This costs £235 per year I understand so is a considerable expense. Just wondering as my present insurer (Aviva) does, plus the compulsory excess is £1500.
I will be asking Carbon, Locktons and NFU when I get to within 30 days as that is how long the quotes are valid for (Aviva is 60 days).
I rang Adrian Flux, was told by the advisor she had never insured a car worth so much (£119k) and it would be a minimum of £1500 with an excess of 10% of the cars value! They won't be getting my business.

Only reason why I ask is that I have just renewed my insurance with Lockton this year - have previously been delighted with level of cover. However following the CMA review in 2015, Chubb (who Lockton use) are now apparently not using ncb or ncb ptotection in their ratings, therefore you will not accumulate ncb. This may or may not be an issue dependent on your personal circumstances.
For me, I've built up 9 years ncb on my Porsche as a second car & now, if I were to have a fault claim, would lose the lot! Lockton have advised that if I were to have a fault claim then it would only increase my renewal premium next year by circa 10% but of course cannot guarantee it. I certainly wouldn't like to try & get quotes on my Porsche with zero ncb therefore am now considering cancelling the Lockton policy within the cooling off period. For me its too risky to potentially lose 9 years ncb for one fault claim.
To avoid the faff of doing a multi car policy I decided to see what my forthcoming 718S would cost me on a new policy with zero ncb. Best quote I had was from Admiral at £777 which I didn't think was too bad, that was car kept on the driveway and I'm 38yrs old with one speeding offence. That's the route I'm going to take as my cheapest multi car quote was £1300 and my daily driver costs me £500 per annum.
I used a broker called AIB last April to get agreed value on my 987 Spyder. I t was very simple - just had to supply half a dozen photos of car :- each side, front, back, interior. They also wanted photo of engine but as you know this is not practical on a Boxster!

Has anyone tried to get agreed value on their policies? Classicline's site say it can be a 'lengthy process'
I'm insured with Aviva.
Me "I'd like to have an agreed value of £70k on my 997 GTS"
Broker "Let me check"
Broker next day "That's fine"
I'd paid £60k for it a year before.

Not so in my experience. I have agreed value on all 3 of my Classicline insured cars; The 997.2 GT3 & Golf G60 were a doddle to do, literally just fill out a simple form & email over some pix. Value agreed (£120k & £16k respectively) within a couple of days & documents issued by email. Another bonus is no tracker requirement, not to mention the Europe-wide breakdown cover that is included.
The 993 GT2 recreation was a bit more involved & basically requires a valuation from an independant "expert" - in my case, the valuation officer for TIPEC obliged and Classicline accepted the valuation without a murmur. Classicline are the insurance partners for TIPEC & offer a 15% discount to members, which easily covers the TIPEC membership costs.
Both these Porsches were previously covered by Mannings at greater cost & without agreed value. Classicline have been very easy to deal with.
The 996 GT3 continues to be covered by Mannings due to their ability to offer unlimited mileage (CL have a 7.5K max) and unlimited UK trackday cover, which suits my use of that car.
Had a renewal come through for my '98 C2 from Admiral - £990 (London, M, 31, 11NCB, Clean licence, S&C) which is quite a jump from the 700ish renewal I was getting 6 months ago.
Tried Sky and they are quoting in the 1500 region!
What would you recommend for a daily driver, 10k miles per year?
Thanks,

Try Nowell and Richards 01785 255514. Had a very good quote from them with Arriva only last week for my 718 BGTS
Thanks, tried them and they couldn't get close or understand why it was so high
Just had a quote from Classicline, for my 2012 997 GTS.
45years old,
Full no claims
Current insurer Locktons, (whom I recommend) = over £1000 - PCGB Trackdays only included
Mannings quoted over £1000 - Most UK trackdays included (whom I was going to renew with due to greater trackday coverage)
Classicline:
Car to be garaged overnight.
Full U.K. + European Breakdown
70k Agreed value (need to send 6 photos - this is £24 for 2 years)
5k miles per year
Limited to 6 trackdays (include more organised events i.e. more than just PCGB)
Added my Brother, so i can share the driving enjoyment (this added £70-£100)
£581.76.......almost 1/2 of the other quotes.
Definitely worth giving them a call.
Very similar to the previous post.
I have a 991 C4s '13, Locktons were around £1100 with a tracker (which I don't have). Limited to 5k miles.
I have the other cars inured with Directline and they quoted £1100 and "couldn't do anything" with the price as I renewed one of the current cars!
Admiral were £443, going with Classicline though after the recommendation above, very professional, efficient and a Porsche approved scheme.
I got a quote from NFU previously for one of the other cars and they were 3 times the price!

Worth noting that it is worth contacting your local NFU insurance broker as opposed to the main office who in my case did a Porsche multi car policy with agreed value on several vehicles of varying values over list at no extra cost for a tailored policy. Excellent service.
Thanks to the advice on here to try NFU I just saved £600 at renewal on my 911 with like for like cover and a reduction in voluntary excess from £750 to £0.
Nice to be able to pop into the local office and deal with someone face to face over a cuppa as well.
Highly recommended.
Another vote for the NFU......
I insure my 3 Porsche with them, a 993, a 997 turbo and a 991 GT3 RS-
For all 3 combined I pay a total of around £840.
Also, they don’t charge you £25 just to change details such as a registration number and they actually pay out if something happens.
Just done the rounds for 2016 981 2.7 PDK limited miles policy.
ClassicLine was most expensive, probably as car's only three years old - £789
NFU next - £650
Lockton offers a great policy for £529 with £250 voluntary excess, but require membership of PCGB at £70 p.a. - £599
ManningUK win the prize with excellent policy inc. 5,000m SDP&C, agreed value, European cover, track days, legal cover £100k, own choice repairer/Porsche parts, accrues NCD, etc. - £529

Manning just edged ahead for me when I did the rounds a couple of days ago on my 997.2 turbo. There wasn’t a lot in it between them and Locktons. What clinched it for me was Manning don’t insist on a tracker on cars under under £100k, whereas Locktons stipulate a tracker on cars over £70k. The tracker was costing me around £180 a year so I’ll be saving that. Manning also offer a NCD scheme which appealed too. Locktons have been great and I’ll certainly use them again if they offer a competitive price.
Hi - I am looking for recommendations re insurance.. I read these threads and called some of the companies..
I am looking for a daily use policy with NCB earning. 10k PA or so.. Aged 45, 15+ NCD, Sp30, 45k 997.2 C2S
Called Manning, Lockton, another based on a recommendation. Pinged NFU and waiting to speak to them.
Using the comparison site - my best option was around £780 With Telematics - er F that).. £850 with someone like Privilege , but the agreed value is likely to be low (says 'market value) and no Porsche Parts etc.
Manning said no as I have not driven a performance RWD car for 2 years.
Lockton do not do NCD and with max mileage of 7.5k is meant for second cars (Quote was £1055)
A broker I called on recommendation would only quote with a Tracker.. I do not think my car has one (just bought it).
Any suggestions for a daily use policy (SD & C)?
Best
Simon
Update.. NFU Mutual pay market value at the time of the claim (which I guess means book price).. Some nice benefits.. But £1065 with a 500 overall excess.. So pretty expensive..
If your 997.2 C2S is one with a good/desirable spec I’d go for an agreed value policy...actually I would come what may. Difference between trade and what you can replace your car for is probably more than £5k.
I use both Hiscox and Zurich Private Client...both do agreed value and they don’t have mileage limits. Hiscox don’t do track day cover but are cheaper for the cars we “daily” that’s why the cover is split... I use a broker called Turner Rawlinson who someone on here recommended, I’ve found them to be excellent.
No affiliation !

Thank you!! Very useful.. I’ll give them a go! I wasn’t planning to do a track day but might be tempted at some point.

Hi Cheib - feedback from the broker is that agreed value policies are only for 4 car fleets with 75k value.. so I couldn’t explore that option more. Will see if they are good for ‘market value’

Ah didn’t know that!
We’ve just bought a 911 992 S Cabriolet - very excited for collecting it on Wednesday.
Our other car is with Admiral - and they look competitive on the 911 - but we have a worry. Porsche Original Parts and Porsche Workshops.
Does anybody have any experience with Admiral insurance when it comes to repairs? ...do they allow repairs to be carried out by the Porsche Dealer (who will no doubt use external body shops themselves, but that’s not the point....) or do they go with “approved repairer network” this ensuring it would end up in a non specialists shop?
Hoping that the answer is that Admiral recognise the specialist nature of certain cars, and authorise repairs appropriately. Anyone have experience either way - love to hear...

Hi Matt, I crunched the front of my 997 into a concrete post (long story
) I contacted my insurance and said wanted it to go to repairer X for arguments sake. They agreed but it was going to cost me about 20% on top of the cost so I let it go to their recommended repairer... who I must say did a fantastic job, apart from the new front number plate advertised their body repair shop. No hiding the fact I’d bumped it then. My point is I wouldn’t worry, they don’t just use anyone. The insurance company needs the work to be done right.
I called Mannings 3 weeks ago for a quote to insure my 991.1 GT3RS......
£848 including unlimited track days.
When I phoned them back 2 days ago in order to proceed the price was now £1150.
Also it materialised that whilst on track the excess was 10% of the car’s value.
Maybe the wording varies by policy/ underwriter but my Mannings renewal from last week has a 15% excess for track days and a 125k limit on claims. Not an issue for me as I don’t track the car - in fact they now allow you to opt out of this element which for me brings the cost back to last year. Seems from other forums that the underwriter has increased premiums significantly.
I cannot find any car insurance provider who would use genuine (Porsche approved) parts.
I've looked at several so far - all terms conditions indicate they use non manufacturer approved (even recycled with one provider) parts.
Is there any normal insurer who understand that fitting a non manufacturer approved part invalidates manufacturer warranty?

I’ve used POrsche Insurance for years, now run by Carbon Insurance Brokers.
They guarantee genuine parts.

Have you tried Locktons?
time for renewal for my 997.2 rs
I haven't done trackdays in it for years so was thinking of asking Mannings to drop it for cheaper coverage since they hiked premiums significantly.
Question on agreed value polices.. doesn't this make it more unlikely an insurer will writeoff the car? i mean if my car has 100k of damage, the insurer who has a 170k agreed value is just going to repair it whilst someone who has the market value clause might look to negotiate for payout if they think salvage value is 40k. hence paying 140k which i would prefer.
fact is i feel an agreed policy puts a higher threshold for writeoffs.......... which is beneficial only if your repair cost is higher than agreed value less salvage.
Thoughts?
That's an interesting perspective. I have a similar dilemma on my RS WP with Lockton who have agreed a value of £225k. All well and good except if the worst should happen on a track day incident where they agree to pay for any damage over and above 15% of the Rs' value. This translates in my case to me forking out the first £33,750.
If i had no agreed value and for argument's sake just a return to original invoice cost of £178k then 15% track excess is a much more reasonable £26,700.
Just an example of another con of having an inflated agreed value insurance albeit less costly than yours.

Worth trying these:
ClassicLine, preferred broker for TIPEC with discount for TIPEC membership and you nominate your choice of repairer. I have an agreed value policy with them for my 997 RS 4.0 & 987 Boxster Spyder.
NFU, independent insurer who only deal direct, not through a broker. Many Porsche Club members had good quotes and they also allow you to nominate your choice of repairer.

but in your example, the payout is greater therefore worth the insurance.
if you think about just accident damage less than writeoff value then you may as well not get the increased agreed value. I suppose if you are willing to accept less there could always be a negotiation. My point being the option value only kicks in on an unequivocal write off tail event. everyone buys insurance for a tail event but seems like "agreed value" is less than what it seems.
Fair?

I'll call classicline.... awesome pair of cars. I'm waiting for my PDK spyder
You'll be lucky. Most of the specialists require a tracker and there's quite a lot of high street insurers insisting that trackers are active before they'll insure.
I have been using Carbon Insurance Brokers for the last few years for my 2016 911 991.2 The policy was £480 last year and this year is £1720 with no change in my car or license or other conditions. Apparently, they have changed underwriter and that was the reason given for the price uplift. One of the conditions I valued was repairs using genuine parts.
This thread is a little old so would appreciate the latest thoughts/recommendations on potential insurance companies.
Hello all. I am going through the paperwork to buy my first 911, a 997 GTS. And the insurance, oh my, it's all over the place. From just over £1k from Admiral to almost £3k from Porsche (via Carbon), and everything in between (incl Adrian Flux, FootmanJames, etc). The main challenge is that they are very difficult to compare apples-to-apples. Obviously Porsche offers the most and best cover, including guaranteed values, original parts and paint, etc. Admiral, being high-street doesn't offer such. Even AF doesn't as the actual underwriter is AVIVA and it's very clear in their brochure. So I guess I have to decide if the Porsche insurance is really worth such a 2-3x premium over the rest. Am I missing something? Any advice would be much appreciated.
If you are going Admiral make sure you disclose ALL options on the car and obviously any modifications too. If you can send a spec sheet with the original car invoice to them that is a good idea.
Other thing with Admiral is to get them to confirm in the event of a claim you are free to take the car to the repairer of your choice for OEM parts including any glass replacement.
Admiral’s terms used to be that regardless of the specification of the car and you disclosing the full specification they still only paid out a total loss claim based on the value of a standard spec car.

Recently renewed mine - it’s clear from this process that not all policies are equivalent; in my experience cheaper, mainstream insurer policies will not have the same ts & cs as a more expensive enthusiast policy. You can often get a feel for the type of car the broker is used to insuring when you speak to them on the phone.
I have reverted to the latter this year for peace of mind regarding repairs and an agreed value - both my existing policy (the renewal actually went down strangely) and the new one are ultimately underwritten by Aviva. The latter through Lockton Performance who were very easy to deal with.
As mentioned above you should check carefully that you’ve fully bought into the implications of a cheaper policy.

Indeed, I have talked to a few of them and you can clearly tell the ones that know more about this. I was surprised, for example, how little understanding or knowledge the people at Adrian Flux had. Manning, on the other hand, totally different story. And Porsche, well, as you would expect.
Thanks all for the tips and advice. Keep'em coming

The apples-to-apples comparison is going to be Admiral vs all mainstream insurers. And then a completely separate comparison with the specialist insurers
Locktons (PCGB insurer), Classicline, Manning, Aviva private clients are some of the ones often mentioned here. These usually offer OEM parts, choice of repairer, approved value, track day - either as standard or add-on

Very helpful. Thanks! You can tell that until now I have only insured the common budget family car
Just renewed with Admiral. Confirmed that they will allow you to choose your own repair centre although they would like you to use their approved shops. Also they will allow OEM windscreens but there may be a small additional charge.
All in it went up by £211. I can handle that given the state of affairs. It could have been much much worse!
