Make sure the yellow clamp in the cradle at the back is fitted on to the pleg correctly and holding it firmly in the cradle.

Most likely the light unit is not plugging in to the socket properly on the rear of the light unit.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Frustratingly my 996 has just failed on neither sidelight working. I didn't even think to check them when I did all the other checks! I removed the headlight units and resetaed them, and checked the fuses A3 and A4, all good.
Very annoying as there weren't even any advisories! If I can fix it by tomorrow it'll get passed free of charge, so any suggestyions very welcome!!
I don't think it's the switch becuase the dash backlight and instrumet lights come on when I turn to position 1 on the light switch. That's where the position l;ights should come on apprently/
I take it you checked the bulbs?
Most likely the light unit is not plugging in to the socket properly on the rear of the light unit. Make sure the yellow clamp in the cradle at the back is fitted on to the pleg correctly and holding it firmly in the cradle. If they ever don't plug in properly, the side lights don't come on. Whilst trying it make sure your side light switch is turned on so you see the bulb illuminate when you push it in.
One of my yellow clamps was dicky, so I used to be able to slide a thin bar (I used a long barbeque stewer) just up between the side flasher and wheel liner and hold it against the back of the plug whilst you insert the light unit back in to guarantee it pushed in and connected properly. It can be a 2 man job doing that though. If you look through where your headlight unit goes, you'll see a small gap where the side flasher and wheel liner are - put your prodder through there if you try that.
Just a bit embarrassing ... though to be fair one side was a blown bulb, the other side was the loose connector as Alex suggested. I just immediately assumed something more complex as they were both dead.
No harm done though, as it was a free retest and an excuse to drive in the countryside with the roof down!
Umm just picking up on this, my light isn't working bulbs check swapped with working one and still not working. Checked fuse all fine.
Usually straightfoward but I just have no idea what else to test. Need this working before MOT. Any help would be appreciated. 996 c4s. Bulb in question
best thing is to just trace the wires back to the next connection and see where the power returns. It would be easy enough to simply run another wire if you need to get it through the MOT
