I have been considering purchasing a
Carrera
992
. I like or can tolerate most of the changes from the 991. The one thing that bothers me is the tachometer. The windows in the tachometer that show the digital readout for car speed and for the selected gear (
PDK
) are substantially smaller than in the 991 and are positioned to the right of center. In the 991 they were larger and horizontally centered. I find them more difficult to read at a quick glance when driving. Has anyone else had difficulty with this? The entire dashboard in the new
Carrera
seems to have migrated unchanged from the new
Panamera
and Cayenne. Also, I understand that the non-central instrument readouts are all computer generated rather than mechanical gauges. Does anyone know if the analog speedometer to the left of the tachometer can be reconfigured so that the hash marks represent 5 mph increments instead of 10 mph increments. Many thanks.
Went from a 991.2 to the
992
. I prefer the speed readout on the 991 but the 992s is just fine. You won't have any trouble reading it. Very clear and crisp. There is no way to reconfigure the speedometer as you describe. Certainly similar to the Cayenne and
Panamera
with a few exceptions. The tach is different and IMO is stunningly beautiful. A great reference to the classics. The displays that flank it do not show contiguous gauges. They are all gapped off from one another. The biggest issue is that you cannot read the far right and far left gauges easily. You have to move your head to see around the steering wheel. From a real world perspective, it makes it difficult to see fuel and the map if you have it on the display. The other information they show is pretty trivial (ambient temp, time, compass). The
992
is leaps and bounds ahead of the 991 in terms of driver facing technology. I have been very satisfied with the gauge cluster.
Thank you, Francis. One more question. While you drive the car and shift the
PDK
with the paddles do you have any trouble seeing what gear you're in. The readout seems much smaller than on my
2014 Cayman S
and
Carrera
991. Many thanks.
