Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, I am new to the forum, so please forgive me if this question has been asked in the past.
I have a 2000 Porsche 996. It has about 64K miles and is in extremely nice shape.
During the past few weeks, I've been having a problem with the ignition key. When I attempt to start it, the key won't turn. It seems to get stuck and won't move past the OFF position. After a few try's and a slight bit of pressure, it seems to "break free" and the car starts and runs properly. After that, the key will turn as it should, until the next time I try to start it. That said, it doesn't happen every time, so it's kind of intermittent.
Based on the research that I've done here on the forum and on YouTune, it seems that it might be the ignition switch, which is a relatively easy repair.
My question is....
am I diagnosing this properly, or can it be something else based on my description of the problem?
Can the ignition switch produce the symptoms or condition that I'm experiencing?
Thank you and I appreciate any help and/or suggestions the group may have.
Best Regards,
Sergio
Ignition switch is a common problem on our models ,
Change it , that costs nothing , and you can get this part in a VW store.

Hello cdrik915, thank you for the advice. I think you're right. Given that its so inexpensive to change, it would benefit the car either way.
I just had the IMS bearing, rear seal, clutch and motor mounts changes, so its not like I am hesitant to spend money on my 996.
I find the 996 to be a great car that has been bad-mouthed terribly. Its actually the best bang for the buck the you can get in a Porsche now a days given the price on some of these cars.
Thank you again and stay well.
Best Regards,
Sergio
With pleasure mate .
Do not hesitate , you're right , 996 are nowadays collectors cars , and spending money on it is not loosing money.
And we've just ONE life , take pleasure !!!
A picture of your car would be appreciated please .
