Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have replaced the vertical one on the nearside (passenger side on rhd drive car) underneath of the engine, and the horizontal one on the offside (drivers side on rhd car) next to the oil filter (both have 32mm hex head) ...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im trying to eliminate cold start rattle by renewing the chain tensioner bolts (might work) on my 996.1 with M96/04.engine. I have replaced the vertical one on the nearside (passenger side on rhd drive car) underneath of the engine, and the horizontal one on the offside (drivers side on rhd car) next to the oil filter (both have 32mm hex head) ... but there is a 3rd one with a hex drive (like Allen key) head that I cant locate ... I think this must be for bank 2. I found a bunch if stuff online for Boxsters which shows it underneath the air compressor, which would be offside at rear of car for the 996 ... but removed the air compressor and nothing there ! Can any of you good folk enlighten me to where this is located please ?

POST 2Original post

I think it must be on the same side as the aircon compressor, but at the 'back' of the engine - the flywheel end. Item 35 on the parts list attached.

The wiring harness will connect to it; follow wiring from that area might help. What do you think?
