Hi All,
Has anyone sucessfully bleed the coolant of an early 991.1
Carrera
/base model using an
Autel
scantool?
When I try, I am getting an error, Negative Responses Key:11
The frunk is open (this tells the car it is in service mode I have discovered)
The engine running (as requested by the Autel, apparently this is a thing for the earlier 991.1 cars).
The voltage is 13.2v
I have tried with the engine access / boot open and closed and the drivers door open or closed
I have seen a Youtube video of someone using this tool to bleed a 2012 Carrera Sucessfully.
Many thanks, Ian
I'm using a MaxiCOM MK808Z on a 2012 convertible.
You will need to use an Uview Airlift

Agreed. I used one of these on my
Cayman
and it is magic.
Thanks guys.
I did do a top up with one of those but still had a bit of air in the system.
I have performed the manual bleed (parking nose down with the bleed
cap
/bow open. I think it is now OK, but to be sure I'd like. to use a scan tool to force the pump to run and open/close various flaps. This is how a proper service centre would do it.
I should be able to do this with the scantool i bought, but always get an error.
The reason I had to put 5 litres in was that while installing a reversing camera I had to remove the coolant system refill
cap
a few times and did not screw it all the way on.
On my first big drive, I lost a lot of coolant . . . and ended up on the back of a tow truck - not at all embarrassing!
Did you ever figure out what the Negative Responses Key:11 means on the
Autel
(MK808S)? I'm having the exact same issue attempting to bleed my coolant system on a
Cayman
981
.
UPDATE
: I called Autel about the stated error message. The customer service rep remotely connected to my MK808S, took some screen shots and downloaded some info for the tech side of the house. They emailed me a day later with this response:
"Engineers checked the log, the executed commands got rejected, which means it is not supported by the ecu.
This certain vehicle does not support automatic bleeding, please try following manual operation.
1. Raise the rear of the car by about one meter.
2. Start the engine and press the accelerator to purge air."
I had already filled the coolant system utilizing a vacuum system, so I followed their suggestion and all seems well so far.
To ensure that ALL the air pockets are removed from the entire cooling system (engine, pipes, heater core, radiators, etc.,) you need to use a vacuum system, this tool requires an air compressor.
I bought the Uview 550000 airlift cooling system a few years ago and have a small '
Makita
air compressor' and even if it is a small it gets the job done, it just takes a little longer to acheve the vaccum you need.
If you don't have a compressor, you can rent a portable one in
Home Depot
for a fairly reasonable fee for one day. This way you will get the job done correctly the first time
PS: If by any chance you live in SoCal, I would be more than happy to help you out at my home, my fees are cheap: a good bottle of red wine or some 'blood orange beer' will suffice

That's a great idea to rent a compressor from HD. My small
Harbor Freight
unit doesn't have enough cfm so I was thinking the same until I remembered that I had a medical grade suction pump. I connected it up and pulled full vacuum on the system. The rest is magic watching the coolant get sucked into the system.
The mechanic I took it also ran into the same error. it gets to this step but when you press execute, it throws Negative Responses Key:11
Unfortunately my buddy in another state is borrowing my
