Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Added ~ 12 litres of fuel, checked the fuel pump fuse, tested the relay both functional.
Leading evidence: 'Check fuel pump fuse' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Suggestion
The turbo sender also only measures the top part of the tank, below about 25 litres the fuel level is calculated I'd imagine the C4S will be the same, if the power is disconnected then reconnected it will read zero until you fill it above 25 litres.

Suggestion
Seeing as you've gone as far as taking the sender out, can you not take the pump out to test/inspect it out of the car, once the sender is out you just reach down and twist the pump to release and lift out I think

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After re-seating the sender the cars now showing ~1/2 a tank, but no change to non-start
Long time lurking, first time posting.
Looking for some support on a starting issue with my 996 C4s,
I washed the car Friday (possibly irrelevant / unrelated). I went to start the car to move it, fired up for ~10 seconds, coughed and cut out.
Trying to restart the car it was cranking, building oil pressure and rev counter was showing ~200rpm, leaving to believe probably not the crank position sensor.
The car then showed no fuel on the guage (had 1/4 tank showing previously).
Added ~ 12 litres of fuel, checked the fuel pump fuse, tested the relay both functional.
Pulled the sender out of the tank, and couldn't see anything obvious (but did not pull the pump out). After re-seating the sender the cars now showing ~1/2 a tank, but no change to non-start
I've put 12 volts directly to the pump via the top of the sender unit, nothing.
Before I book recovery to a garage and foot the bill for a new pump, is there anything else people might advise looking into.
Any advice / guidance appreciated.
Given you’ve put 12V directly to the pump and got nothing, I’d be leaning quite heavily towards the pump itself rather than crank sensor or relay.

Thinking out loud here and knowing the arrangement of the turbo, I'm wondering if they are similar/same arrangement. Due to the 4wd I know it has the same saddle fuel tank
The turbo has jet pumps to suck the fuel from each side of the tank due to the 4wd, these have been known to pop off or the lines can crack leaving you with no fuel pressure. There are also pipes which can do the same.
The wiring can also burn where the connections go through the top of the tank, would be worth checking that out.
The turbo sender also only measures the top part of the tank, below about 25 litres the fuel level is calculated I'd imagine the C4S will be the same, if the power is disconnected then reconnected it will read zero until you fill it above 25 litres. Sounds like something along those lines has happened for your guage to drop to zero, and you've brought it back to life by adding fuel!
Edit It is very similar to the Turbo vid below
