Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Hey, it's exactly that, to check the power and torque and, if possible, to improve driveability as well as check optimum efficiency.
Leading evidence: 'Check optimum efficiency' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check optimum efficiency' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Hi, can anyone recommend anywhere, preferably with a 4 wheel dyno, to give a 996 c4 a tune - even better if Essex, Suffolk or Herts area please?

Running your car on a dyno will of course give you an idea how close its power and torque figures are to the original spec.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Dan,
I’d be interested to know what you hope to achieve by this. Unlike a carburetted engine, really there’s nothing that can be done to “tune” your engine other than to remap the engine’s ECU [DME in Porsche-speak], and there are specialists who can do this, some with dyno facilities. Since it’s not a turbocharged engine the power and torque gains will be small, although the driveability will be improved. Improvements to the induction and exhaust systems will give additional gains if you’re looking to further modify the engine.
Running your car on a dyno will of course give you an idea how close its power and torque figures are to the original spec. If there’s a significant variation then further investigation into possible causes would be appropriate.

Hey, it's exactly that, to check the power and torque and, if possible, to improve driveability as well as check optimum efficiency.
The car has undergone restoration of all but the internals of the engine, including custom exhaust etc. So I'm really just checking progress
Porsche do a pretty good job of mapping, and I agree with Jeff that any gains will be small. I don't know where you are located, but one of the few people I have heard good things about is Wayne Schofield, of Chip Wizards near Blackburn, Lancashire. He does live custom mapping, and knows his onions.
Porsche used to offer a retrofit performance kit for the 996. It consisted of new cylinder heads, exhaust and inlet manifolds, camshafts, oil pump, sump, and loads of other bits and pieces. I can't remember the cost, but I recall it was somewhere in the region of £10,000. It raised the output of the 3.4 from 295 to 320PS.
Unless you're driving the car flat out everywhere and continually looking for more power, you will spend lots of money on an engine upgrade and likely be disappointed with the outcome.
It may be better to spend it on the chassis for improved handling and road holding. This will likely produce a far more satisfactory result in terms of overall vehicle performance.
I would start initially with a specialist bespoke geo report and setup, then seek advice on potential upgrades.
Regards,
Clive
