A bit here: For my 996 I use a genuine battery.  I seem to get a decent life from them, 7-8 years.  The extra cost of the genuine item is swallowed up to be of no consequence when you amortise the battery price over its life when you factor in the annual running costs of the car.  Just like tyres.
