I tend to keep my more ‘spirited’ two/four-wheeled outings to neighbouring France (Jura or Alps down to Nice), with the occasional run around Gstaad, Interlaken, Andermatt, etc., just to remind me of what alpine Switzerland has to offer, but similarly cautious of the possible consequences.

Given that regular Spyders are around 1 to every 3 or 4 regular GT4s, if the ratio continues for RS models then over a guesstimated 2 year run a couple of cars per UK OPC sounds about right?

Best of luck, didn't help me offering a Python 718 pdk Spyder back.
That roof! Back to 987 Spyder tent.
Crucially… spring and damper rates reduced to be more suitable for relax and characteristically convertible setup.
Hopefully that means complainers will move out of 4RS and leave one for me! Haha

Going to be epic, but (lack of) fullly closing roof would kill it for me. No rear window at all is a bit bizarre.
It's a two-piece affair, similar to 987 Spyder.
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2023/products/pors...
It's a really stunning looking Porsche and better looking than the 4RS even though I own one. However, there's no way I could run one in this wet cold country. Absolute perfect car if I was fortunate to live in the French Riviera with regular sojourns to the nearby Alps.
On another note I really don't find the 4RS ride overly harsh but I guess that's a lot to do with my high tolerance for discomfort due to decades of driving tractors, UTVs, ATVs etc.
I have to congratulate Porsche to be brave enough to carry on making hardcore Sports cars like the Spyder RS and not pander to the new generation of soft, sensitive whinging wokey wimps.

I think you’ll find it does have a rear window - look on the configurator.
It is interesting to see how much more money it is to specify some of the more regular 'upgrade' colours on the RS versus the non RS models (such as GT silver and Gentian Blue). Porsche data gathering and marketing at it's finest.
I think it's a great looking car and I really like the launch colour, it reminds me of a shark's skin - even more so than GT SIlver
However, I also think it's an incredibly niche model by way of the price, roof idiosyncrasies, frenetic driving experience from the GT4RS etc. It's a track car with no roof, but there are no harnesses.
On the right day in the right place I would imagine it's going to be stunningly glorious to drive, but how many times a year is that going to happen?

Don't care... still want haha!
I would love one.. If I lived in the South of France ( or anywhere with a sunny climate )
Waste of time in the UK, all that messing about with the roof is enough to put me off, unless you plan on never stopping/parking it up in public.

Nah, you'll be fine for local Cars and Coffee meets....
The Boxster Spyder has certainly moved on along way from my 987.
It is bound to be fantastic to drive and such a great experience own. I find some of the details a bit fussy and untidy though. I wish the extra air intakes could have been incorporated into the existing side intakes. I do like the softer styling approach on the original 987 that has gradually moved on with 981 and 718.
Bravo for the roof arrangement. Especially on an RS, the lightest possible format makes sense and differentiates the car even more. Makes it more special in my opinion.
The usual lazy ‘tent’, ‘faff’, ‘tricky’ comments come out again. A sub 60 second process putting either on or off really isn’t that tricky.
Wow, I just love it, there isn’t a convertible I would like more this side of a CGT which is way way out of reach for me. This includes Speedsters for me that I bet are spectacular to drive but look a bit out of proportion.
I loved my 987.2 Spyder, had it for five years.
Was the roof a faff? Well not really just a few seconds when you know what you’re doing and the new Spyder RS looks to have a very similar arrangement with fix to rail, pegs in the head restraints and wire arrangement it’s a lovely nod to the past.
I’ve got a near base 718 Boxster in Agate Grey as a DD which has a PDK and it’s the first PDK I have had and it’s a great. I think a Spyder RS would be almost sensory/ workload overload if I had to change gears on to of everything else going on.
I am going to the Grossglockner this summer in my old Mezger GT3 I can just imagine how spectacular this would be the year after....
So I've just watch the video and I'd like to know where the rest of the roof is?? Is the rear part of the roof missing along with the rear quarters or am I being a bit stupid? Probably the latter I hope.

There's a second piece a "weather deflector" or something, that gives you a rear window
Far to compromised for me.. just looking at that roof on the video drives me insane!
Will I'm sure be epic with the open top, sod getting caught in a shower.. reminds me of my Caterham 620R manual roof mech, at least the Spyder RS has Aircon as it'll be constantly on
I would love one and I live in the very rainy Isle of Man. My last 2 718 Spyders only rarely had their roofs up and I did 6000miles or so in both. I personally find the standard car much better to drive without the roof up as the wind noise and cabin noise are far less roof down. As long as I can make it secure when I park it up somewhere and it is watertight when it’s lashing down then it’s all good for me.
This is my perfect fun car
Just looks ugly compared to the 718 Spyder, I had a 987 Spyder, a 981 and now 718 Spyder. Nothing would push me to have one, and I have turned the offer away, roof looks odd, styling looks too strained.
I agree it’s a bit try hard IMO.
The aero appendages were fine for 4RS as a track biased car.
I was hoping that Spyder RS might have been more restrained and more like the CGT or 918 Spyder.
The roof is compromised in order to deliver a similar sound stage as 4RS, and to be able to used the GT3 engine.
It’s not the car for me, I’ll take the other twin
Would probably spec the new grey also. Perfect balance between Black, GT Silver and Agate. Love it and would look classy

+1
I think it is the best Spyder since the 987 even shares the same roof design! I am going to see if I can get one but not holding my breath!
Interesting split opinion on the Spyder RS. Seems a fair few aren’t interested. Leaves me wondering what suspected demand levels will be like - any thoughts?
In 2015 folks knocked the single skin 'tent' roof on the 981 Spyder but it was a great piece of engineering and suited the car perfectly. And a mere £60k basic list including the standard bucket seats too!
Unsure about this RS Spyder I would undoubtedly take a GT4RS first.

The roof was knocked well before then with the 987 Spyder, the car was not loved sales were slow and 15%+ discounts could be had! And what a fantastic car even Walter Rohl has one.
So keep knocking the RS Spyder scare of the flippers/collectors (for financial gain) and perhaps real enthusiasts might get one!

This…
We can but live in hope. Suspect the Spyder RS will be an awesome drive - Boxster chassis with the full fat 500BHP GT3 motor - yes please, from me at least!
Like the GT4RS, with its short gearing and Cayster chassis and tyres, it'll be mad as a box of frogs. I reckon the vast majority of people would prefer a normal Spyder for regular use.
This is really an occasional high days and holidays car for warmer climates and unrestricted roads or tracks, isn't it?
Submitted my Porsche code for one, I never got on with my manual 718 spyder hopefully will with a pdk, not holding my breath, dealer texted last night saying awaiting allocations and expecting very small numbers

Not even sure how long they will keep producing the RS, surely 18 months anyway, else why bother even building it in the first place?
When the original rumours of the 718 Spyder said it would have the GT3 engine, I told my local OPC I'd be interested in one. In the end it didn't have one, but was still interesting enough to buy. In theory I should be interested in this, but a sensibly optioned one in Switzerland is about £195k. For reference, at current exchange rates my Spyder cost £123k in April 2020 and sadly second values aren't above list like they are in the UK. If you can get one at list in the UK, you should be all over it!
All very quiet in here! Interested in the responses from the dealers by any who have enquired about trying to get one please? (I sent a spec through last week but haven’t heard anything yet).
Yup. Its a bit like being in a very long holding pattern. Dialogue has commenced, no other info forthcoming.
UK cars might be a very rare commodity. Perhaps I need to move to the USA.
Yes I want one , Yes on a bad day that roof would make me need a swear jar but as a swansong how could it be any better , sadly I enquired about a Cayman GT4RS and was politely declined and I do mean politely so I guess the same would happen here
Twinfan said:
Word on the street is that my OPC is getting 1 car, maybe 2 if they're lucky.
They're going to be rare birds in the UK by the sound of it.
You’d have thought they will keep building these for 18 months to 2 years? So surely you’d think more than 1 car every 9 months or so per dealer meaning less than 100 UK cars total.
Looking at Rennlist these guys think the numbers would be in the low thousands in the USA.
USA market is different remember, no EU emissions targets to worry about.
I'm just passing on what I've heard. My OPC has had 3 GT4RSs so far and they've been out for just over a year, plus one of those was a bonus car for someone who'd had issues with other Porsches that they'd bought. Their next car isn't due until late this year, so it'll be 4 cars in 18 months.
Given that regular Spyders are around 1 to every 3 or 4 regular GT4s, if the ratio continues for RS models then over a guesstimated 2 year run a couple of cars per UK OPC sounds about right?
Same path as usual - If you watch some of the other videos - AP says - yes we constrain supply heavily within the 1st MY on these types of cars and then turn up the taps. some of it is due to materials availability and also tuning the production line for the new model.
e.g in the US right now - there are 15 GT4RS on Porsche Approved, some have less than 100miles on them.
They are not limited/numbered directly - but there is a close link with fleet carbon emissions as well - which applies to us here at least.
I understand it needs equivalent of 3x Taycan sold to allow 1x MDG.G engined car sale.

Agree, same old story. Going to be limited in first batch then suddenly more will become available.
With regards emissions, my guess is part of the increase in RRP is customers charged indirectly to pay for fines which are incurred by not meeting emissions targets. I know this was the case for GT4 and 992GTS.
My guess would be around 200 cars for UK at the end of production run!

A couple in our Spyder group have been told similar by OPC's and similar to Twinfan's comments they expect cars to be on a ratio of 4 to 1 GT4RS / Spyder RS and about 1 / 2 cars per OPC. I've nothing more concrete other than I'm not getting one, but it looks as though they will be scarce.

Guards red as a special order colour!
It’s normally a freebie colour like white.

Basically a polite but firm 'no chance' in my experience; unfortunately I've spread my Porsche experience across several dealers as I've moved around over the years so haven't build up the rapport to qualify with one

If your dealer thinks they will get three that means they actually will most likely have more.
Anyone actually know how many gt4rs cars dealers are getting, from what I can work out the opc near me has already had 3 delivered, but I may be totally wrong and they may of had more already.

So my detective work was right!
At first they thought they may only get one, so 3 already is a great result.
Be interesting to see if they get more allocations.

Porsche need to keep increasing production with cars like this. But sadly they choose not to as it creates hype around the brand and allows them to drawer others into other models.

Perhaps. But there is also an element of fleet emissions and the fact all other models are more profitable
I was thinking that. Very quiet. People not interested or just fatigued with the allocation process. To be fair, when I bought my 987 in 2010, I got a discount of 10% because regular buyers could not cope with the roof.
For me, I'm not interested because:
it's a convertible
even if I was into convertibles, the roof will be a pain in the UK with our changeable weather
it's neither fish nor fowl - not a track car (no cage or harnesses) nor an interactive road car (no manual gearbox)
very few cars coming, only the select few will get one
it's fecking expensive
Add all that up and no wonder there's tumbleweed...
Have officially given up buying Porsche , unless I race it , Just tooooo much work to grovel for one and London now with 20 mph everywhere . The key of yesteryear is gone

really get a grip
it's neither fish nor fowl - not a track car (no cage or harnesses) nor an interactive road car (no manual gearbox)
given the 4RS is just potentially the most sublime immersive road car with a power train to die for and the Spyder RS is the same but has no roof to enjoy it all the more I think interactivity will not be an issue
very few cars coming, only the select few will get one
discerning few please
it's fecking expensive
bargain at list

Nope, none at all. The car is 100% not my thing
I'm sure others will love it, I think its appeal is somewhat limited though hence my comments
Yep same here already said I would prefer the GT4 RS.
Same reasoning why I sold my 981 Spyder and kept my 981 GT4 in 2016 and exactly why I ordered a 718 GT4 and not the 718 Spyder.
Each to their own though as ever.

Any one in a “promise”?
Many trying to get an allocation, or has the “dodgy” roof put you off (hopefully)?!
Its pretty quite, because as far as im aware offical numbers haven't been given out yet. Dealers know that will be getting at least 1 and are hopeful of getting 2.
Some customers have recieved confirmation that they will be getting the first car!
I dont think that they will have any problem selling them all despite the roof....its rarity will ensure that!
Personally i think its great and cant wait to get my hands on one.
finmac said:
Delighted to hear all the negativity. Maybe gives me a decent chance of getting one
Since everybody has their own opinion I personally don't see this as negativity ... surely it is their realism shared in the way that forums share things ?
Of course, the number of prime cars received and the money spent with OPC's could bear some correlation to the various views expressed.
I used to be a fan of the new cars when I could buy one, now I'm happy to keep and develop the last car that my OPC willingly sold me (8 years ago) and spend my cash on other automotive fun. Hence I also can't get excited ...
As you say, this gives somebody that falls for this car a better chance ... so long as they aren't all flippers I'm cool with this.
The challenge seems to be that a relatively high percentage are. A self fulfilling roundabout often with the OPC as the main financial beneficiary ?

So you're in line for one then?
A GT4RS and a Spyder RS allocation - you're clearly playing the game correctly
I would buy one in a heartbeat. But my last request of my local OPC for a new GT3 was just humiliating, and I'm not paying overs so I’ve given up on it. Shame as I’ve had 14 p cars and had them all serviced there, but I'm clearly not buying enough of the right sort.

Yes be surprised if the OPCs get that many cars. I have bought two new GT4s and a 911 over the past three years but suspect I likely won’t get one either!
I’ve been confirmed…I can’t have one… i guess to be expected but I must admit after 15 years of Porsche ownership it just all gets a bit tedious the Porsche game… maybe time to sell up and find a new hobby…
Congratulations on the allocation. If you are annoyed whilst actually winning at the game just think how annoying it is for those that don't get a look in.
On the plus side, if more people start feeling like you do the overs market will quickly become a thing of the past.

i think that you misread the post - he says he DIDNT receive an allocation !
As far as im aware no offical allocations have been given to centres. They have just been told that, they more than likely they will get 1 car only with deliveries starting very late in the year or early next.

One car - FFS - begs the question of why even bother building the thing!

Love the way it says "Order books now open" or similar on promotional material. If only it were that easy

It’s a load of boll%%%s honestly, I really can’t see this business model lasting as we head into a 5-8% base rate decade…

It might if they switch to high prices (more akin to the flipper rates) and lower volumes (due to emissions limits) for the GT stuff here in the UK and EU. There will still be a chunk of buyers worldwide too where economies and emissions limits differ.

Mine is reporting October for a late 23 build. However they are still not confirming that they will get any allocation at all.

Bonkers considering the car was launched weeks ago.
How will they build the Spyder RS, beyond the summer shutdown, if the "ordinary" Spyder has finished production now, and electrification is due for the platform from MY 23.5 onwards (i.e. vehicles built after the plant re-opens, post shutdown)?
Are they going to maintain a line for the GT4RS and Spyder RS on their own?

They'll possibly use Osnabrück rather than Stuttgart. It's tooled up for Boxsters and Caymans.
My friendly OPC sales guy who sold me a new GT4 recently has confirmed in an email that he has ‘registered my interest’ in buying a Spyder RS.
I’m not a gambling man however I would be willing to bet my family business that has been passed down through 3 generations that I never hear another word from him about the Spyder RS.

Interesting couple of cars there. Presumably the Rubystar car is a non WP car? The silver car a WP car on Mag wheels? Both on steel brakes.
I wonder what the back story is on those two?
Obviously the Spyder RS is the big daddy of the Cayman range and the car everyone wants - but looking at the car purely from a design angle it looks very busy and messy…….imho the bog standard GT4 is aesthetically far superior with its cleaner lines.
I'm not sure everyone does want the Spyder RS? I think it's a confused model. Full track spec, but speed limited to 120 with the roof up and no manual option for back road fun for the old skool fans.
I agree with you about the lines of the regular GT4s and Spyders though, they're lovely.
The verdict on the Spyder RS is lynch-pinned on how it rides on UK roads.
Porsche have stated that is it softer riding, as would be expected of a roadster - if that really works as advertised, then it will be vaulted to the top of the pile in terms of desirability, as its base will be broadened.
Nice riding, small, 500hp, sound, open top.
Don't personally think 120mph 'roof on limit' is really an issue on the road, even when you're on your own, and then for occasional use on track on a sunny day, take the roof.
I would view it as a miniature Carrera GT lite - but it is missing crucial aspect.... the manual gearbox... I still believe Porsche might address this in a final final model.
I have a soft spot for the Spyder - would love to have one for high days in my retirement garage, one specced like that Rubystar neo one above would be ideal. Personally think WP takes it too far.

Obviously 120mph on the road is only an issue for Euro hoons, T, but on a damp day it could be annoying. Same for track use. I think it's a very limited market in the UK for this car - it's very much for the odd high day and holiday IMHO. It's great that it's been made and there is the choice though.
I think the issue with the roof is the engine intake - it takes up all the room for a proper mechanical roof to fold in to.

They've said that this is the final Boxster model, and I can't see them adding a manual option to the RS, so it is what it is.
The final final run-out is looking like it'll be a 718R if it gets produced, and that will be Cayman only according to rumours.

Yes - the intake and the mechanical roof were not compatible.

Whatever they say, is the truth in the moment they say it, not beyond, lol, also large enough demand is there.
Manual would actually make far more sense in a 'Spyder R' though.

So true, and I agree, but it would have to have the stupid roof. Not sure they'd release two models with it given its limitations?

If the roof is similar to the 987 Spyder roof, that would not concern me.
But if you look at the 987 Spyder, particularly in the American market the manual is worth 10% more than the PDK, and that in the land of the Auto.
Hence I'm surprised that P went for PDK unless the R will be manual ?
Can anybody think of a good reason why P would not manufacture 500 each of 718 and 718 Spyder R's ??? Unless they were worried about taking away some of the special-ness for the existing 718RS and 718RS Spyder owners ??
And if they are, would they tell us now ??
Actually they will make 718 each and they will be priced at retail $350k ... a cool half a $billion ? And the OPC overs will be $500k + ???

On a note regarding comparisons with other Porsche models. Without being too biased.
Surely the SRS has an argument to be the most enjoyable RS car for the road what ever camp your in?
Best sounding from what I gather (certainly from the drivers seat) , best suspension setup for the roads? Lightest! and open top?! Narrower footprint (coming from an AMG GTR) and more compact design helps thread it through the twisties without so much anxiety of what’s around the corner!
I mean I’d love to be able to afford a 992RS! Even a nicely speccd 992 GT3 But tbf that would mainly be for kudos and road presence etc.
The spyder is ALL about the open top theatre which is where there is no competition in the range imo.

How do you find it in terms of driving compared to the GTR? I moved from 600LT to GTR and I'm now considering an SRS (miss the open-top of the 600LT) or a 991/992 GT3.

I set my self up to expect it to feel slow and lack punch…. It’s pleasantly surprised me on the performance front! But I also expected the SRS to feel more nimble and lighter on its feet. It doesn’t. I think that shows how good the GTR is more than anything negative towards the SRS. This is probably down to the RWS and wider track maybe.
GTR is a phenomenal car but I was starting to get anxious at potential bills with the car coming up to 10yrs old and fancied a change.
SRS feels a lot more like a traditional revvy little sports car turned up to 12!

I d love to read a 600LT vs SRS comparison. They were my two choices, but there are barely any 600LTs in Switzerland, McLaren customer service here is reported to be ropey and the prices are bonkers and a huge gap to the SRS. So I never got to drive the LT before the SRS blew me away.
Quite a new toy weekend chez Eyebeebe.. picked up my new push bike this evening after three months of dicking around, just sampled a new whisky that arrived earlier in the week, but peak is tomorrow morning finally collecting my RS again nearly three months later.
I feel a little sorry for the bike, as it‘s not getting the attention it deserves! I might have to do a joint photo shoot, but I remember someone of this parish getting a bit upset that I gently leant my bike against my Exige in this photo

They were my two choices after the GTR.
Tbh if my GTR had sold in time I would have been in one as a lovely well priced MSO one can available at a dealers that I would have bought. But it was a 50/50 decision on what car. Only real downside for the LT was annual running costs (warranty cost and large servicing bill).
Not disappointed with my purchase but since I made the decision 2 months ago. LT s have gone up by at least £30k!
Picked it up, but no new photos yet apart from the below, which we thought was a nice touch and goes with the champagne glasses we got with the 996 purchase many years ago (and better than the Italian food hamper we got with the 718 Spyder).

And they installed a CTEK trickle charger FOC without asking. Very happy with that.

How was the ride in the AMG GTR? (On a b road) - I imagine they are a weekend type of affair and a bit big for Uk roads?
I'm not sure if it's because I'd come from driving an SUV with a big trailer attached but I've never really had an issue with the GTR size on the road. I'm fairly sure it's the same size as a 600LT, just proportioned differently. The McLaren had tonnes of visibility out the front and never really felt wide. Whereas the GTR seating position further back makes the nose feel longer than it is.
Ride wise, the 600LT felt firmer and had a few scrapes on the underside due to be it being lower. I've never bottomed out the GTR on a country road and it really does stick to the ground round corners.
I'm sure I'll miss the GTR when it goes, as I did with the 600LT, but I like to swap cars every couple of years just to try something new. The SRS is appealing as I'm starting to move more in to European road trips and having the roof down on the 600LT was an experience!
I just think I may feel a lack of power going from turbo to NA unless you're on it and at the top end, but maybe revving to 9k outweighs that
I'll have to see if I can test drive an SRS or 4RS to see what they are like for "normal" driving, as i do like the theatre a GTR produces at all times.

Salut depuis Genève and congrats on the new car.
On the subject of gifts, I still use the oversized pepper mill that an OPC not too far from you presented me over a decade ago when I picked up my Cayman S.
Coincidentally my recent acquisition of a more vintage Spyder, went through the same Porsche Zentrum Zug workshop less than a year ago.
Bonne route!

I love the pepper mill. Just because it‘s not so obvious, which is so Swiss. The 987 looks amazing. After 15 years since the last PH Swiss passes meet, maybe it‘s time to have another?
I also joined the SRS crew yesterday and took delivery of a non WP Vanadium Grey car, with armchairs (at 55 my back is for s**t after getting hurt playing football last year) from the lovely Ben Sarbutt who I've known for 20 years +
I believe, at least according to Porsche GB that it was the last unregistered car in the UK, and I sadly chopped in my manual 718 GTS plus a few quid (although slightly less than I'd expected, I think it had 'sat' for a while...)
Typically it was wetter than an otter's pocket, so much so I missed the turning off the A40 for my house because I couldn't see the rain was that crazy, but in those conditions that car, can feel that quick and sure footed then this will be something to enjoy the Hell out of for many years to come.
I'm a technophobe, no social media at all, can barely work a cellphone and I'm old, but I defy you not to be refreshed by that interior and the way it works. Just so refreshing, easy, attractive and functional. The size of screens in cars now genuinely terrify me! It's like being at work!
Anyway, not being controversial, each to their own and all that, values, as the last few weeks have shown are impossible to predict anyway, but it you want the most enjoyable sub 130k sportscar on the market it has no peer, just imho.
I f you have one enjoy in rude health, and if you're thinking about it do it, you won't regret it for a second.
Thanks for reading and have a lovely Sunday,,,

Indeed. I presume such an event would be centred around the Grimsel/Furka area? I will be passing there (twice) on a quick trip to Chur and back on July 16/17th, but am willing to repeat the route at another time if really necessary

This is my thinking too. I love the buckets in my GT4 but I struggle to get in and out and Im probably too fat. If I can stretch to a SRS in a couple of years the 18 way seats will be the way for me. We were at Nick Masons on Saturday and my Mrs said she liked the look of one without me evening saying anything so thats a bonus.
OPC Mayfair. Ask for Ben Sarbutt, but they're all good guys. It was gleaming in the showroom today. I honestly think if you want a manual you won't find better. It's perfect and it still pulled at my heartstrings to see it. I no longer own it so I wouldn't lie, it's cool being the very last UK manual car. If I can help at all let me know.

Couldn't help but take a look at the car on their website.
Really lovely example and beautifully spec'd .
With just 1000 miles seems keenly priced for an OPC too .
Massive fan of Carmine.

The current 992 lineup for me is too big on the road whereas you can have a gt3 engined cab in a form that fits the road .

Yup, still loads on AT, and a few more now appearing in the low 120s.
I have been looking every day since April for the right car, and nothing has really come up. Deposit in on one that was then sold from under me. But apart from that, it's all greys, silvers and blacks. Yawn.

Just seems to look so right on the Spyder RS

Lovely in shark. Magic.
Cheers Roddy, that ramp looks familiar! I do like the “stormtrooper” look on the SRS

YMMV but there’s too much black/carbon for me. I’d prefer the bonnet, mirrors, side vents and “barge-boards” in body colour, though the dark windscreen surround blends rather nicely with the soft top. Still a fine looking car!
Meissen with painted bonnet. Dealer wasn't convinced when I ordered it but it's been well received - awkward colour to photo as the exposure makes it look a bit washed out.
Debating whether to keep as I've bought a Touring that suits my use case better..

Lovely colour, what spec touring did you buy out of interest? Some days I do wonder if I should get a PDK/comfort spec touring as a “daily” instead of the SRS. Then other days I think - save the chunky cost to swop and just get some PS4s on the SRS and use it more instead (I live in West coast of Scotland where it’s pouring rain and single forgot temps half the year!).
Did a two hour drive with a reasonable amount of stop start traffic and motorway driving back from Davos at the weekend with the roof on as there was potential for a storm. Drove up in more free flowing traffic with the roof down. Got to say I’m not really getting the complaints that it’s too noisy and can’t be used for road trips, but maybe I’ve got a high tolerance. My OH thinks it’s harder to get in and out of than the 718 Spyder. Not sure why as they both have the same bucket seats.
I don’t know whether it’s the more aggressive looks, yellow vs. White or the noise, but it gets a lot more attention than the Spyder, be it parked or moving and people move over more quickly on the motorway.
Not the most picturesque drive, so no new photos yet.

Good to be different I say .
Out of interest sid you spec front & rear parking sensors from new ?
Seem most have rears & no front sensors

No front sensor option on the SRS. Only rear.

If you're thinking of moving it on there's a guy on Craig's Spyder Club looking for a PTS one.

Maybe I’m blind, but I can’t see any sensors on the front quarter picture. Front sensors weren’t an option on my 718 Spyder or on the configurator for the RS in Switzerland. I would have loved to have had them!

No I suspect you're right and that some random at Porsche Colchester has screwed up the listing after typing similar for a cayenne.
Good to know , thanks
Mine got papped and posted on Porsche s insta page down at Sunsteade . Just about at 100k likes . The market will eventually wake up and see what a great package ( and price ) these are . 10k and nearly 2yrs in with mine now .

It is a 992.1 Touring - Manual with Buckets, Steels, Jet Black Metallic (so very understated compared to the SRS!). I got lucky and found a 3yr old car with 500-miles so it was as new as the SRS when I took delivery! Very different driving experience, feels a bit more modern with the dash etc but the manual box puts a nice bit of analogue back into the experience. You can't as readily explore the last 1k RPM of the rev range with the manual because you're always having to anticipate when you need to throw a gearchange in!

Per others, no front parking sensors. DM me if you want full details on the car - the only material thing it doesn't have is the Mags because I prefer the design of the standard alloys.

Random question but I saw someone post saying the car ran at 3.5k revs at 75 mph in top (7th?) gear. Surely they mean 2.5k?
3.5k sounds about right. Top speed of 191mph. Max revs 9k, so pro rata 3.5k is around 75mph. Gemini suggests around 3.25k. That aligns with me closing the exhaust at around 75-80mph as it drones at that speed and normally don’t want to be caught going much faster on the Swiss motorway!

Chuffed to join the Spyder RS club a few weeks go. Took me a while to find the right one and got this off market. April 2025, 3k miles, £174k list, PPF, PTS Viola Metallic, white gold mags.
First impressions:
1. Putting the roof up and down is super easy. After you've done it 2-3 times and know what you're doing it's simple. I can do it easily on my own. There's something quite satisfying about the feeling that you've got it nailed.
2. The cabin is very noisy with the roof on at 70mph - it's 1 skin canvas, so the Bose is almost a waste of time on the motorway.
3. Incredibly spacious - and this is a biggy for me, as I was also looking at a 992.1 3RS. Turns out I can get a cart bag and clubs in the boot (need to take the clubs out), and electric trolley in the front. So that massively improves usability for me.
4. It's rapid. My 900bhp Eletre wouldn't know which way it went on a country road.
5. I love the theatre. I actually think an aftermarket exhaust might ruin it. Which is saying something as I normally go fairly extreme on exhausts. The intake noise/engine howl is loud and very unique.
6. I was worried about high rev cruising speeds but although it's 3k at 70mph, you don't notice the extra 1k revs vs others.
Drove mine for an extended period on the motorway this week and was reflecting that it was very civilised at cruise - quieter than my Yaris for example and I think I’ve got good hearing!
Took it to have the suspension settings checked - pretty small tweaks but handling massively more confidence inspiring. I’d recommend this to anyone.
Otherwise concur with your points

Probably hoping the recent run of lovely weather will ease the money out of someones pocket. Wander what it will drop too when its still sitting there in December ?
I expect that Meissen car to sell. It’s a special thing with virtually delivery miles and high specification - would have been £170k list and if someone wanted one but missed the boat, this might be their only chance.
A couple of highly specified PTS cars have sold at £150k in the last couple of month. This has probably £10k more of options (mags) and zero usage, so imagine with a bit of an arm-wrestle with the dealer, it’ll be gone!
Meanwhile I’ve been enjoying mine in the Alps this week.
It’s the perfect road trip car and difficult to imagine anything anything as useable from Porsche where the engine provides as much theatre!

TBF, I agree - anything PTS is definitely going for a premium, and I think if you can get something that's basically new then it will still be close to list price. FWIW I actually really like that blue on it.
Just booked my SRS in for its first service at 21 months old and around 8k miles. Was originally quoted £1,235 but after deleting the mickey-taking drain check (car is garaged, SORNed for 5 months over the winter, so completely un-necessary) it dropped to £1,065. Is this about right for current pricing?

That is a fantastic price. Best offer I found at the end of last year was £110k for a 24 plate Weissach car in Ruby Star. The same car came up in the summer for £135k.... Kind of wish I had bought it, but it didn't have PCCBs.

Just back from a little round trip in the Swiss alps. Could have done it as a day out, but decided to break it up and stay overnight by lake Brienz.
Yesterday was a nice three and a half hour drive that flew by. From home to the Gotthard, across the Nufenen and up the Grimselpass before heading to Brienz. Then today from Brienz to the Aare gorge for a bit of tourism and then over the Sustenpass, before heading back north along Lake Luzern. Generally very happy with the traffic levels. Pretty much an open road from the top of Susten down.
The car was fantastic and well within its limits comfortably beyond the speed limit. Fear for my wallet and licence kept me mainly sensible unless there was someone ahead who wanted to take the risk. Will have to try and arrange a dawn run next year before the plod are awake
A few photos from Brienz.
Nice route, nice pics. Yellow really suits that car
This time of year is great for such trips; I was in the Burgundian Franche-Comté Jura this morning (two wheels not four), twisty roads pretty much traffic-free, blue skies, no tourists and 22C. I should take my 987 Spyder for a last hurrah on a similar Swiss route to yours before the passes close.
There is a little sortie planned via the Col du Grand St Bernard for an overnight stay near Aosta for early October; my son and his wife will drive my Alpine, following Mrs B and I in the Porsche. If you ever find yourself down that way, book a table/room at the Locanda La Clusaz. Last time we were there the tasting menu lasted four hours, and still finished too soon
Tricky time of year in the Alps. I recall an epic mountain biking trip in Sept 2016 going from Pontresina to Poschiavo over the Bernina pass in brilliant sunshine and 15 C. The next day the pass was closed after 20cm of snow fell.
Easier to deal with if you're already nearby - bit of a bugger if you've made the trek from the UK.

Thanks for the suggestion Michael. I thought of you when we were planning to go, but we only decided to go at about 2130 on Friday night and I thought that might have been rather late notice from Geneva.
I would have liked to have gone again today, but I don’t think my OH would have been too keen on another passss morning so soon. Currently cruising down the Zurisee instead, which isn’t the worst way to pass a couple of hours.

I can be at Wassen at the foot of the passss within an hour. I need to make more use of it to be honest. The car is so damn capable that I worry a bit that if I make it too regular it’s going to be a matter of time before I get a ban and/or a deeply painful fine.

My lowly 320hp Spyder is still capable of getting me into trouble… I hate to think what risks an RS presents!

Yesterday and today between home and the Col du Grand St Bernard (and back) I did this operation four times[1] on my 987 Spyder, which is 95% identical except the rear hooks are static and don't need un/relatching as the boot lid itself tensions the 'flying buttress' elements. It really isn't the aggro that it appears, especially if you look ahead to where you need to be and don't keep going from one side of the car to another to release cables, unclip rear window studs, etc. like the chap did in that video
[1] Not due to rain, but because Mrs B prefers motorway driving with the roof on for noise/temperature/hair reasons

Honestly, it’s not an issue. I can do it easily on my own, and it doesn’t take that long. Something almost satisfying and it after a while. What I’d say is annoying is having to clip up the rear to get into the boot - nobody talks about that strangely. And it’s it raining, you temporarily have gaps at the canvass corners when the boot life is up.
But actually putting the roof up and down - anyone who owns one knows this isn’t hard to live with.
I suppose it's not really a regular thing that needs doing?
Do you guys keep them in the garage with the roof down and not bother taking them out if it looks like rain. For times when you're caught out, the faff isn't so much of a faff?

I remove mine in March and put it back on in December when I park it up for Winter.
Friend of mine test drove my car yesterday as he is thinking of buying one, he asked me to fit the roof and was amazed at how quickly and hassle free it was after reading all the crap about it. If needed I am pretty sure with practice you could have the top part on in around 30 secs.

Where did you get the carbon bits? How much?
JJMatrixx said:

I sourced them from DB carbon which for a dozen years has been a great source of high quality Carbon Fiber parts for many Porsche models. Cost was around $5000 dollars for both. Unfortunately, DB carbon was sold earlier this year, and the new owners promptly cocked it up and the company is already out of business. Disappointing as the quality was OEM as you see below.
There are some other companies out there offering carbon fiber parts. I'd recommend you search around and ensure you speak with someone who ordered the same parts, so you know the quality.
Personally, I didn't feel my the WP on my car looked complete until after the CF NACA ducts and front fender louvres were installed.

Always keep my roof on in the garage. Keeps it taut and crease free.
As it’s an occasional car, I enjoy the removal process as a build up to the drive!

Precisely the opposite for my 987 Spyder: the roof parts are kept in the boot to stop them stretching and going saggy. I use a Spyder Cap cover to keep the interior dust-free when parked.
As an occasional car I enjoy being able to get outside in the sunshine as quickly as possible
I haven't owned a 987 spyder but I think the best option is a blend of the two suggestions above.
I've installed padded hooks on the wall of my garage. The bimini hangs from these hooks with the tope of the bimini higgest on the wall. It's only slightly taunt due to gravity. This causes less stretching than having it on the SRS all the time, but also doesn't generate the creases that would occur if I left it folded in the boot for long periods.
Finally, I have spydercover from flatsix24, which protects my SRS from dusk and creepy crawlies in my garage.
