Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wont be able to get under the car for a little while, but after noticing a spot where I regularly park that started a couple days ago, Ive found oil dripping off the sway bar. Is the sway bar under the RMS/IMS/engine/transmission split? the 04 996 has 93k miles, Ive owned it since 75k, and this is the first time Ive had anything leak. changed the oil about a week ago, from DT40 to Mobil 1 5w40. (I didnt like the way the engine sounded with the DT40, very tappity, quieter with the Mobil 1) Drove from Phoenix to San Jose (750 mile day) after the oil change, and the leak started three days after the long day of driving. Thanks for any thoughts on the leak. -Eric

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Looks like the clutch/IMS/RMS project gets done sooner than later. -Eric 04 996

POST 4Original post

Isn't that is also where you'll see oil if the oil cooler has a problem... ?

POST 5Original post

The oil filter is right in that vicinity too. Since you said you just had the oil changed, I'd make sure everything is copacetic there.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I checked the filter, and its not wet. Ill definitely try to check the cooler, just not sure I can see it without removing part of the intake.. Thanks! -Eric

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So after three days of leaving spots (that were getting smaller each day), it just stopped.. I checked, its not out of oil just very strange.. still havent gotten it up in the air yet, but its baffling.. -Eric

POST 8Original post

Hmmm, just changed/filled the oil, Leaked, then stopped a week later..? Maybe see if your filler pipe is cracked.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got under the car coolant leaking from the oil cooler (what it looks like from below). I should have figured it out when the puddles dried up overnight.. now to tear into the cooler, looks like at a minimum new o-rings. -Eric
