Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

All turbo cars, up until this year, used the Metzger designed engine, which is totally different than the M96/97.
Leading evidence: 'Use metzger designed engine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use metzger designed engine' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys and gals,
I just bought my first Porsche, a 2002 996 Turbo Coupe- 30K miles and still like new. I love the car profoundly, but I have a problem. The PO had put a Fabspeed exhaust on the car. It sound good throughout most of the rev range, but unfortunately, the part of the range where I spend the most time, between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm, it is way, way too loud.
Here's my thing: occasionally I let her wail, and I don't care how loud it is then. But when I am cruising on the freeway at 2200 rpm in 6th, I want it reasonably quiet. I may have an opportunity to grab a Tubi - I know they can be loud, but at what rpms are they loud, or, more to the point, are they reasonably quiet between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm?
I am open to any and all suggestions for a replacement. Does anyone want to trade? I know that Fabspeed makes 4 models for the Turbo, but I have not yet identified which one I have yet, though I can describe it.
Hi Randy, congrat's on your purchase! "Sounds" like you have a good problem. Not many tt's here so you should post in Rennlist tt forum. Fabspeed is active there & seems really good at helping members so try them.
My two previous 911's had after market LOUD Exhaust so i agree with you loud gets annoying after a while. My 01 996TT is all stock and I love it that way. At 2500 RPM, 6th gear, 75 mph+ it purrs quiet enough to enjoy the stereo and power enough I still own the road. I suggest you look for a used exhaust system exactly for your year and model through Ebay, Craigslist, etc. and get rid of that FabSpeed over priced piece of crap ASAP. You can probably sell it here or on Craigslist and make a profit. Just an opinion from someone who's been there done that.
I like Uwons reply. In the beginning I had problems keeping it under 4,500rpm. But the police did not have the same theory as I did, so now I drive slower. lol.
It’s kind of noise sound at this rpm so I added sound proof material under the speakers and at the sides in the back of car, the sound is traveling true there. It’s better now but not great. I’m going to take out the engine in a few weeks for changing one hydraulic cam lifter, and then I’m going to add a lite bit undercoating with a spray bottle. I’m going to spray a lite bit in the wheelhouses to.
I’m going to make a decibel test and see how much I can lower it.
I do have the original exhaust system for sale to my Porsche 996 Turbo Coupe year 2002- about 35K.
I’m driving with a tuning system.
Good luck.
All turbo cars, up until this year, used the Metzger designed engine, which is totally different than the M96/97. While it has a lay shaft, both ends supported by solid bearings with pressurized oil feeds, much like the unit Raby just released for the single row M96. You can drive the Metzger any way you damned well please; it could care less..........
