Carrera
S. Key stuck in ignition.
Had done this occasionally, then got worse and worse until it could only be removed with "the emergency pick.".
Battery
and voltage are all fine. Replaced the ignition switch-no change. The dash display says to put the car in "P" before attempting to remove the key. The car is in "P". Disconnected linkage at shifter, moved shifter back and forth, no change.
Noticed that PRNDL on dash worked properly. Shift cable to transmission seems fine, no binding, transmission changes gears fine.
I removed the switch on the side of the shifter (996 613 212), and carefully removed the cover. The internal contacts were clean and looked fine, then I noticed that the connector for the
plug
looked like two pins had bad solder joints at the circuit board. I re-soldered all of the pins, re-assembled, and now it works fine!
The repair required removing the center console, which wasn't too bad after learning the tricks. (Remove gearshift knob (34 second explanation on Youtube), three screws in the rear of console under the mat, screw under parking brake cover, one screw at the front of each side of the console under the dash). Left and right radio stack side covers need to be removed, along with the top cover of the shifter.
Disconnect console
plug
at the right front, under the radio stack. (
Battery
should be disconnected or it will set an airbag code.) (Top shifter cover is snapped in place- you pry it loose-between the bottom seam of the cover and the top of the chrome trim, starting at the rear.) There are 5 more screws under the top shifter cover-then the console is free!! (Lift console at the rear, and pull it clear of shifter and hand brake.).
The PRNDL switch is mounted on the driver's side of the shifter with two Torx screws. To re-solder the connector on the circuit board, a small soldering iron works fine--the pins are not micro.
Hope this helps someone out there!!

I moved this post from the 911 Chat section into a technical section (DIY repairs and such..) It's a better fit there and Google spiders will rate it a bit higher when they find it.
There are a few sticky threads in the New User into area that you might find useful to navigate and use Planet-9, please take a look when you have a chance!

Dear Mardiros,
I have a Porsche Boxster 987.1 (2006) and I got the same situation similar to yours as the key stuck at ignition after I shifted to "P" gear and dash showing warning to ask me to put the car in P. I found it is because the leveler in the gearshift is not downward to touch the solenoid. I tried to take the gearshift assembly down to examine the detail but got stuck how to remove the wire on the driver side under the white plastic mount. Can you help teach me how to remove the plastic mount of remove the wire?
Best regards,
Jack
