Guys. I am tearing my hair out. I installed a new steering wheel before a track day and disconnected my
battery
to do so. When I reconnected it, my TPM stopped working. The dashboard shows TPM Inactive every startup now and I'm usually not helpless with this stuff but I'm totally stumped!
2009 997.2S
Here is what is going on:
-I first used a handheld device to check the sensors in the
tires
, all 4 responded quickly with correct pressure and ID's, which checks out because all 4 worked before the airbag swap. I do not know how old they are, but the handheld device shows
battery
"ok", and because of how code 8015 cannot be cleared, I dont think it's the actual tire sensors.
-I used
piwis
to check my TPM codes and the only code that I cannot clear is this dang "Antenna TPM Center (No signal)" 8015. I did move my car away from all other cars and there are not any "extra sensors" nearby causing interference.
-I have driven over 1000 miles since the issue started.
-I have checked the fuse listed for TPM control and it is good (B3 I think)
-I replaced the TPM control module with no change. Still code 8015
-Code 8015 cannot be cleared, it comes back instantly after clearing.
-I tried manually writing the sensor id's to the module with
piwis
but it seems the sensor ID length is incorrect, or something is not allowing me to write the ID to the module. They are stuck all 0's.
-In
piwis
, one of the parameters which shows in the snapshot taken during the 8015 error is a "no current" fault, which is kind of the only clue I have right now.
Questions:
There is not a central antenna in the system right? Just the control module and 4 receivers in the wheel wells right?
Does anyone know what the 8015 code might be? I cant find any references to it. Could it be an individual receiver in one of the wheel wells having an issue and taking the other 3 out or something??
Sorry for a potentially dumb question but have you tried putting the system in learn mode and going for a drive?
Do you mean like selecting a different tire size through the cluster? Yes I have tried that. I read about a
997.1
who used the
PCM
(Navi > Set > Tire Change > Start Calibration for new
tires
) to start the learning process when trying to get the learning process started through the stalk didn't work, but my
997.2
pcm
is different and I don't have the Navi option.
Update: Still fighting to figure it out. I have replaced the TPM controller - no change. Replaced 1 of the car antenna's - no change. Recoded the instrument cluster and made sure the TPM option was selected, no change.
No matter what, I can't clear the tpm 8015 code. Shows this with both TPM control modules. It is unable to cleared by
PIWIS
, as in, when you try to clear it you get the message that code 8015 was unable to be cleared, meaning whatever the issue is, it is happening constantly.
I also cannot edit the wheel sensor ID through
PIWIS
. They are all 0's for the ID and I cannot type anything in.
For the pressures, I see they are set by the instrument cluster. My
next
step will be to use the
PIWIS
in development mode to dig around in the instrument cluster settings and make sure everything seems correct. The car is a very early 2009
997.2
and uses the more squared box type antenna like in 08-10
cayenne
and not the boxtser/
cayman
elongated popsicle looking antenna. Not sure that matters.
I dug through the workshop manual and can't find mention of this type of issue either, so I'm looking for more documentation of the tpm system and the associated error codes with their causes. If anyone knows where I might find this, I'd appreciate it!
I would have thought it would be corrected by your model but my 2008
987.1
had an issue that required the dealer to program something to do with the
TPMS
computer. That was long enough ago that I don't recall codes or symptoms, just that the
TPMS
stopped working.
Sounds like you’ve done solid diagnostics already. The center antenna might actually refer to the passenger rear wheel well, worth checking wiring/connectors there. The no current fault suggests a power or ground issue to one of the antennas. Try continuity testing each antenna’s wiring back to the module.
