The brackets are the same, the mounting is the same, but the radiator hoses are different (the C4S/Turbo use a "press-in" with a clip) but I was going to change them anyway, and I bet the "hose clamp" version are cheaper...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello fellow 996 owners. I just bought a 996! I have had a 74 G model 911 since 1986, and know every screw and nut on that car. I rebuilt the 2.7 (with all the upgrades) about 20 years ago, with the machining, advice and guidance of Ted Robinson at German Precision. It still runs great and doesn't drip oil! It did have a minor fuel leak a few months ago (is there such a thing as a "minor" fuel leak?). So I dropped the engine and replaced all of the 20 y/o fuel lines/clamps. But that is just "background". My "new" 2003 C4S looks like it need two new radiators (they look original, so they have lasted 21 years?). The C4S uses the Turbo radiators. They are almost NLA (and stupid expensive if you can get both) The regular 996 radiators are readily available, but would they work in a C4S? The brackets are the same, the mounting is the same, but the radiator hoses are different (the C4S/Turbo use a "press-in" with a clip) but I was going to change them anyway, and I bet the "hose clamp" version are cheaper... The question for YOU (a 996 owner) is how does the A/C bracket attach to the front of the 996 radiator? On the C4S/Turbo, the condenser mounting frame has 4 screws, two above and two below that screw into 4 bosses in the tanks (above and below), and the condenser screws into that, but since the "regular" 996 tanks are on the sides... how does the A/C bracket attach?? In the C4S/Turbo pic below the yellow arrows are the bracket attach holes (bosses), and the red arrows are the condenser mounts to the bracket (sorry, I already pulled the plastic bracket out) If you have done this, and can remember the details, I would appreciate your knowledge! Oh, one more question: Does your A/C condenser have the inlet/outlet connection on the same side, or on opposite sides (as mine does)? Thanks. Paul

How do they look like they need to be replaced? Usually they exhibit symptoms that would indicate there is something wrong. Mine are 24 years and do just fine on a track only car. If you want to buy new the csf are available. I would certainly do that before trying to adapt something that wasnt made for the car.

POST 3Original post

Yea buy the factory replacement cfs or even their upgrade. The hoses with the clip r a much better design. Also the turbo rads r bigger and cool better which a bonus. Both ac condensors r the same (like the rads) they just get flipped upside down. They r bolted directly to the rad, no bracket.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The passenger side has dried coolant? and serious corrosion in the fins. I dis-assembled the radiator "sandwich" and tried washing out the gunk from the rear, some came out, some didn't. The 996 996 106 131 51 and 996 106 132 51 radiators WERE made for the car. But Porsche chose to put Turbo radiators (996 106 131 72 and 996 106 132 70) in the C4S. I don't know why. The C4S has the same engine as every other "regular" 996.2 Paul

Thank you. That helped a lot. I looked at the CSF 3564 radiator (for the regular 996) and now see the mounting tab and two screw "bosses" for mounting the A/C condenser. BUT, the single tab slot is on the same end as the double radiator mounting pins (outboard/aft), and on the C4S the tab slot is oriented towards the single mounting pin (inboard/front). I also noticed that the condensers are different on the C4S/M095 versions: the inlet and outlet are roughly on opposite corners, whereas the 996 has them co-located. That C4S part number 99657311103, is the same as 2005-2016 911's It looks like the C4S (and "40 Year" edition: M095, Turbos and GT2) started getting the 2005+ part in 2002. Paul

I believe they use those radiators because they are designed for the turbo bumper which is shared with the C4S. So they are designed for your car, at least the bumper.

POST 7Original post

You're not going to be able to install regular Carerra radiators unless you change all the front hoses as well as the radiator brackets. Then the bumper won't fit correctly so you will need to jury rig some bumper brackets. I suspect you will need to change the front A/C lines and condensers. This list is from swapping the other way: carerra to turbo radiators. Since the regular Carerra has very marginal cooling compared to the C4S it seems like a bad idea to me.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone! I was hoping to use the "regular" 996 radiators, but it sounds like they will not work. In my first post I said "the brackets are the same" (I read that somewhere) but they are not. The parts catalog has different numbers for the regular 996 radiator brackets vs the C4S/M095 (and Turbo??) versions. I don't know how much different, but they are different. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me. Paul
