Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

it seems it would be infinitely easier to remove the muffler from the bracket using the the 140mm (fore) and 70mm (aft) bolts that hold the the muffler to the bracket.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

not to question the eggheads in stuttgart, but is there a reason why some bolts are placed in a particular direction? ie, why the bolt head is on this end, and the nut on that end... and not the other way around? ive been working on my exhaust, and it has been a bear to remove. i ended up cutting or drilling most of it off/out. all of the writeups and directions say to get at those three fiddly bolts that hold the exhaust bracket to the car. if you've tried to work on your mufflers, you know exactly what i'm talking about. as mine were not only difficult to reach, but also rusted beyond recognition, i ended up just drilling the bolts out through the outside... and welding new bolts in after. but that's not where the question arises... it seems it would be infinitely easier to remove the muffler from the bracket using the the 140mm (fore) and 70mm (aft) bolts that hold the the muffler to the bracket. rather than remove the bracket from the car. but of course you can't, because even if you were to undo the nuts (bottom side), the bolts would foul on the heat shield and body work above, impossible to remove. so, is there rationale to having these bolts with the head up, nut on bottom? rather than the other way round? in which case, you could undo those nuts on the top, the bolts would fall out the bottom, and your mufflers would be off.

POST 2Original post

For most who have done this job, that is exactly what they recommend doing. In this case it just makes sense.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ah. good. well that's what i did as well. and replaced everything except the headers with the ipe valvetronic setup. some may poopoo it, but i couldn't find another non-porsche-sport option out there with switchable modes. will report back later.

POST 4Original post

Well, technically speaking , IF the bolts were installed with the bolts coming up from the bottom ( nuts on the top) .. IF the nuts were to come lose, the bolt would fall out !! This may be beneficial for easy access, but for "failure analysis" you would rather have the nuts on the bottom, so that IF it were to come loose, just the nut would fall off but the "through-bolt"" could NOT fall out...no matter what !!! Note :::many thing are done this way that may seem "counter-intuitive" , but if you think a little deeper , there are safety reasons engineered into the decisions..

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ah. that makes total sense. guess i'll have to check that those nuts are snug before every drive.
