When I bought my 2002 facelift 996 it came with centre console delete and a bracket fitted behind the 'horseshoe' upper centre console that mounts the quadlock system.

I just use a mount that clamps into the air vents in the middle - works a charm

In use the position is good, but there is a bit of wobble compared to more rigid locations in other cars.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I got a Mouse magsafe one and fixed it to the panel just in front of the gear stick then routed the cable up and through to a charger in the cigarette lighter.
I’m buying a 996.2 with centre console delete.
What are people doing to mount their phones somewhere?
I’ve seen the Rennenpro and Renn Classic hazard light brackets, is there a practical difference? I’d probably stick a MagSafe puck on it.
Is there anything that goes ahead of the gear lever?
Any straightforward solutions to add more USB ports to avoid wires sprouting from the dash cigar lighter outlet?
TIA!

It was great in 2nd, 4th, 6th but otherwise the gear knob obscured the screen.
I've got one of these. The location is great but it is a little floppy as the ball feature is 3D printed so the magnetic disc can't clamp on very well. It is very neat and out of the way so fine for motorway driving but you do need to adjust it every now and again.
Cheers, yes I’ve seen this one.
I’m a little deterred by the Price, and in my head I was hoping to keep the cigar lighter clear.
If this was cheaper, then I think it would be a great tactical solution pending a potential future move to PCCM+ and reinstatement of the lower centre console.
I haven’t got the car yet, but it feels like the Renn Classic hazard light mount with some means to add a MagSafe puck will likely be the optimum solution
When I bought my 2002 facelift 996 it came with centre console delete and a bracket fitted behind the 'horseshoe' upper centre console that mounts the quadlock system. This also has a charge cable attached. The car also came with the original Porsche single din head unit and a .chinese' bluetooth adapter in behind where the cd changer used to be plugged in. Hence on CDC setting I get bluetooth compatability with my mobile phone/music. These two modifications mean the car is the best of both words in terms of tech and analogue feel.
In my opinion the centre console delete is still the best modification you can do to a 986/996. Not so long ago a console delete from Porsche would cost around £200 in any colour available from new. Now they are hundreds of pounds more expensive! Getting a car with one already installed is a win
I’m looking forward to trying it.
I am a big fan of Apple CarPlay, but I didn’t particularly like having the climate control right down at the bottom in my 986.
I’ve decided to go for the Renn Classic mount, with the 1” ball. Will see how I get on.
Completely agree, it's amazing how it "opens up" the interior. The lower console feels a bit like it's bolted on as an afterthought.

There is a reasonable looking 3D printed console carcass available on ebay for sensible money. Just needs carpet covering.
This is where my problem lies - I have grey carpet and I think I’ll struggle getting a match with the UV lightened colour I have.

Shown with magnet at the bottom of the phone but it actually sits lower now, with magnet nearer the middle. Phone is eye height when driving not covering any controls, at all.
Installed the Renn Classic mount last week, 1” ball and a received mounted to a Brodit MagSafe holder.
Install was a bit of a faff, largely trying to get the cable through the hazard light hole, but I got there.
In use the position is good, but there is a bit of wobble compared to more rigid locations in other cars. The single screw is just going into a receiver designed to hold the dash top down, not to secure a protrusion.
I’m going to see how it goes but honestly I preferred DD CarPlay with the MagSafe mounted next to the lower centre console, that I had in the 986.
