Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello-There is a PST2 complete being offered on the classified forum. I am interested, but I do not know a lot about these systems. I live way out in the woods, so having the ability to diagnose faults on my incoming 996 would be a big plus. But maybe the Durametric software would be the same. Would anyone here be interested in a group purchase or forming a user group to buy this unit or one like it? Thanks for your answers.

POST 2Original post

A couple words of caution: Is it a real one? There are a lot of Asian knock offs running around, often at very high prices, that are not real. Make sure you can prove it is what the seller says it is. We were approached by someone trying to sell a “real” PST II that ultimately turned out to be an Asian cable and a very old version of the Durametric system software; the seller was asking $2K for something I could duplicate for about $400……. Second, Porsche went from the PST II to the PIWIS system in 2004, so the system is only usable on cars up to that point, the later cars require the PIWIS system, the PST II cannot access of activate some systems on the later cars. If your car is later than that, or you plan to go to a newer model, the usefulness of the PST II decreases significantly. There are no updates available for this system, it is frozen in time. There is little that the PST II can do that the Durametric System cannot do (yet). The Durametric software is updated regularly, and is relatively inexpensive compared to a functional PST II. Porsche still likes to “rain on the parade” of those that steal what they see as their intellectual property; the PST II is intellectual property.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
