Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Performed · outcome unconfirmed · Original poster
Had it tested by blackstone and the report was great with no issues.
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
If this is clean, some of the things that have been mentioned to cause this noise are lifters (as long as the noise goes away immediately once you add gas you should be fine).
Leading evidence: 'Test by blackstone and the report was great' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean some of the things' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Drove my car today and noticed a ticking noise when I put it in the garage and had it add idle. The ticking only happens when the car is at idle and when the engine is warmed up. Is this something to worry about? Car does not have any issues not throwing any errors or anything, does not have smoke coming from exhaust, so not sure if normal or not. Just had the oil analyzed (prior to the ticking) and everything was in normal range with no issues done by black rock. PPI completed as well with no engine issues.
Video is attached.
Please let me know what you all think.
Thanks,
Edit: how do you add the video?
Ehh.. mine does this ever since I bought it. I've posted videos of it and got 20+ different diagnosis and had 30+ heart attacks reading them all.
I'm coming up on three years and two blackstone analysis of oil (foolishly skipped it during a few oil changes) and the car still runs great and still makes that noise during the warm up cycle on cold start. No smoke, no codes, no issues. I'm just going to keep driving it and worry less.
I just drove it again got it up to temp and it did not happen again, so I think I didnt have it fully up to temperature before. Going to drive it and see if anything changes.
Could be a number of things but I would try to eliminate the costliest one first, being bore scoring. The best way to confirm this is just get in there and scope the bores. If this is clean, some of the things that have been mentioned to cause this noise are lifters (as long as the noise goes away immediately once you add gas you should be fine). What weight oil are you using and what pressure do you see at idle? Also a lose spark plug could cause the ticking noise. I've also remember someone mentioning failing CATs could cause similar noise.
For the video, upload it to youtube and post a link here.
Thank you for this. It definitely goes away once gas is applied. Its only at idle and not always there. I just had the car inspected and had oil done and everything came back good. Can I send you a private message with the video since I cant figure out how to do the YouTube video? Also when you say pressure, you are talking about the oil gauge correct?
2001. C4. 125K. Not sure oil type or weight. Had it tested by blackstone and the report was great with no issues. I can send you a video of what is happening since I cant figure out how to get the video to upload.
Any time I hear a 996 owner say they can audibly hear a "ticking noise", the first thing that needs to be ruled out is piston slap associate cylinder bore scoring.
Follow the steps in the video:

Listen to me it is not bore scoring and your car is fine. Sooty tailpipes? Excessive oil consumption? Ticks go away with slight application of throttle? Ticks go away with A/C on? If no to all four you're fine.
Yeah, I am overreacting- internet does not help! I sent the info/ video to my Porsche mechanic who specializes in Porsche 911, he said it is fine. It also did not happen these last two days after I ran. the car and engine was up to temp. I think it was just because it was not fully up to temperature which I heard is common.
