Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In an effort to redo struts I removed the sway bar links which had gone bad. Drivers side was a beast but manageable. Passenger side ugh. I managed to get the nut off the upper portion and lower portion came out fine. But the top portion of the sway bar link was absolutely frozen. I actually had to cut the sway bar link portion to get at the 17mm head on the link side with an impact driver and even then had to sledgehammer the thing for what seemed like an eternity. So much so that the threaded portion of the link was deformed from the blows even while not budging and absorbing all the force. Finally after much struggle it was removed. Now that leaves me with my question the hub which now has a bit of play in portion where sway bar link goes through (at least when I put the old away bar through it) I think the deformed end of the bolt may have essentially widened it a tad. Im not sure whats normal. Candidly I cant even get the old away bar through the other side now so maybe thats too tight and this side is just right? Is there any threaded portion in the hub itself? Im not sure sure how snug a fit is normal or if it would matter when a new sway bar link is bolted up?

POST 2Original post

No threaded portion in the upright itself. As long as the sections where the nut and the droplink flange sits are flat/undamaged, I see no issue with some play/clearance between the droplink stud and the upright. Make sure you use the recommended torque and that the upright clamps the strut correctly once torqued up.
