Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Install cloned' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'hdd is the issue' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install cloned' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
We recently had a spate of issues with photographs - not only on this forum - but on many other forums run under the same software.

Suggestion
It also appears that one can use a HDD from another model.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It may have only worked from the Emergency Update mode, but none the less, it worked and all is right with the world again.
I’m having a lot of fun with the car and learning some things. I came searching for PCM3.1 help!
Member of ******** and Planet-9 suggested I reach out here in search of
@ELCID86
I also recognized @JSLO is here too.
I am on the search for someone who is willing to help me get my PCM going again? I suspect my HDD is the issue but I am not knowledgeable enough to know.
What I’ve done:
The PCM was doing the 2-3minute reboot and I read that a Handover might help. After 20 attempts or more I decided that the handover wasn’t going to cut it and dug deeper.
Then I learned a 4.76 update may help. I found a 4.76 download on Reenlist put it on a DVD and to my surprise it started the update! The update completed and I was excited to have a PCM back, but I got something else…
“Emergency Update” message, so I started digging again… I found a couple other software update links and put them to disc hoping something would work.
One tried!! It made it all the way to the last little bit and errored out. I’m really at a loss… I am being lead to believe I need to find someone willing to clone an HDD or better an SSD for me..
Would anyone be interested, able or willing to help me out?
I would greatly appreciate it!!
Current state
Failure point right after this it is .placeholder and then the error occurs.
thank you!
This is not really an introductory message, I'd suggest viewing some existing intro messages and see what's traditional here. We do have specific forums for different problems unlike some lessor forum you mentioned. I'm moving this message to a
911
electronics forum. I see you have done a real intro message with a photo of Gunar, so no need to redo that.
Also - at the top of every page you'll find a message asking you to read something I wrote BEFORE adding photos to any posting. It seems possible you haven't read it. PLEASE do this before posting any other photos to the forum. We recently had a spate of issues with photographs - not only on this forum - but on many other forums run under the same software. Just in case you've overlooked it - here it is again:
https://www.planet-9.com/threads/posting-photos-in-posts-to-planet-9.253974/
FWIW - we avoid using the name of that other forum here. There are reasons for that which if you want to know why will be conveyed privately. What you can do is refer to it as "that other forum" or "that inferior Porsche forum" - most of us will know exactly what you mean.
OK - the thread is being moved. Please keep your hands and feet inside the thread for your safety and comfort.
Posting resolution to add to the knowledge base.
My
PCM
on my
911
was stuck at Emergency Update while trying to update from v4.74 to v4.76 and kept failing at about 95%. I tied to clone the HDD but it kept indicating an error with the target SSD. However, I was able to clone my previously owned
Boxster
HDD which I still had. I installed the cloned
Boxster
SSD into the
911
PCM
and turned it on. It was back to the Emergency Update screen. I inserted my v4.76 update disk when it asked and it went to work. This time quicker (SSD) and also went past the place where had errored prior. After about 10 min total, it indicated that the update was successful and the
PCM
rebooted. Upon startup, all was good. Everything was as it was before except now it is v4.76 in lieu of v4.74. Station pre-sets where still there as were all of the other custom settings I made. It seems that the
911
HDD was going bad and thus it would not duplicate. It also appears that one can use a HDD from another model. It may have only worked from the Emergency Update mode, but none the less, it worked and all is right with the world again.
There is also option of replacing antiquated
PCM 3.1
with aftermarket
android auto
unit, that is from 2025 and has every function imaginable while looking pretty nice and not out of place. I have this Erisin unit with wireless
android auto
, google maps, cameras and music... and never looked back. It also made radio sound much better on my non-
Bose
car
