I just replaced the ok ones in the 2002 with new ones (pricy, but what isnt on these cars), rotated the slightly tacky ones into the 2000, and set aside the very tacky third set.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The radio ***** on my 996 and 986 have gotten sticky....its a common problem I guess. So I popped the ***** off and used some alcohol to clean off the rubberized layer and it looks and feels great....like new. It makes no sense to me why Porsche used it in the first place.

POST 2Original post

Ethanol? Isopropanol? Mine have been sticky for the 20 years I’ve owned the car. Got so annoyed I pulled them off. Would be nice to clean them.

POST 3Original post

Goo gone works great as well. I used it to remove all the soft touch paint on my plastic interior panels before I painted them.

POST 4Original post

I spray painted mine, worked for about two yrs. will try goo gone next

POST 6Original post

My blockhead move: Radio ***** are sticky on my 996, I added (1) **** to my cart on my last order from pelican. The question is why would someone order (1) ****??

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just used isopropyl and done in 5 minutes for both. They look real nice....feel nice too. Just use alcohol liberally.

POST 8Original post

I used something on my 987 ***** three years ago and they are still great. Wish I could remember what...LOL. Probably isopropyl.

Ive tried applying bourbon, scotch, vodka and gin liberally, but no matter how much I drink, the ***** seem the same. I just replaced the ok ones in the 2002 with new ones (pricy, but what isnt on these cars), rotated the slightly tacky ones into the 2000, and set aside the very tacky third set. I may try the isopropyl trick with the old set that I saved, just for grins.

POST 11Original post

Please dont drink it this time, or youll be grinning from a box. I hear it clears out the pipes......permanently...

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15449194

LOL...if they still seem sticky it means you aren't drinking enough!

POST 13Original post

I have intermittent sticky *****. Do I need to join a 12 step program?

POST 14Original post

Yes, especially since your cab looks brand new again.

POST 15Original post

I had sticky ***** (sounds perverted when you write it) on my 06 Cayman S.Took them off and clean with dish washing detergent and soft bush. They came out like new. No issues (yet) with my 04 Turbo ones.

POST 16Original post

I just use those common disinfectant wipes. Works like a charm.

POST 17Original post

Thanks, I'm happy to have it back.

POST 18Original post

Exactly. Why use something that is known to fail (can you say Maserati?) Probably promised an improved product by the supplier. I wonder if its only a problem in hotter climates like in Florida where my radio ***** just all of a sudden got very sticky after 5 years. Isopropyl alcohol worked great as you said. All in all a bit disappointing in $100,000+ car but no biggie. Plus side there is the weight savings....LOL

POST 19Original post

Sticky ***** aren't a hot climate phenomenon. Wisconsin, and mine got sticky. It's a common problem in F-cars, BTW
