Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would be grateful if any of you knowledgable people can help with this issue on my 1999 cabriolet. Dash display stays on after locking and a single beep, Door lights go out. Changed both door latches and have linked out frunk, boot and glove box. Originally the remote worked but recently the only way to lock the car is to do the 3 turn emergency locking method. When I push the remote the alarm sensor lights on dash top flash without locking or unlocking.

POST 2Original post

First thing, especially on a Cabriolet, is to check that the alarm control unit, under the passenger seat, is dry. There is something strange going on, as a single beep means there is an open compartment, but that wouldn't prevent you locking the car with a single turn of the key. If you need to do emergency locking there is a system fault, which would give a double-beep.

POST 3Original post

Had this with a VW and was due to breaks / shorting in the wiring loom that goes to the drivers door. The breaks / shorts were in the section that goes through the conduit where the door opens. The wiring had worn with use over the years. Fixed by soldering in new sections and used soldering for long lasting joints. Hope this helps

POST 4Original post

this problem will also result in a flat battery if you leave the car for any length of time. When I had the same issue it was due to the trip computer stalk being broken by my son whilst sat on knee in front. I had to replace the entire stalk assembly to cure dash display staying on after locking.
