I used a cover for two reason; over the horrible winter months (when the car was on a trickle charge), and in the summer I used it to protect from the UV/pollen etc.

Suggestion
Whilst the Specialised Covers workmanship is excellent I would probably pay for another courier as DX (the company they currently use) are worse than sh#t.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sadly, a number of the older threads have non-working links to manufacturers/retailers of tailored car covers of decent quality and which won't cost the earth. Are there any personal recommendations or advice where to look? Last time i looked into this was well over a decade ago and it seems everyone and their dog are in this market now. Cheers.
Are you looking for an outside cover? And if so does it really have to be tailored? My last (£400+) tailored cover didn’t even make it to the 3 year mark before it started letting in water and neither did the previous 2 (both similar prices but different manufacturers/materials). I’ve now given up on expensive tailored covers and reconciled myself to getting cheap ones and changing them often.
I ended up with
one of these
(you need a large for a 992) and it frankly does the job as well if not better than any of the more expensive covers I’ve had. And it’s still going strong after 2 years.
Ideally, yeah. Had a few outdoor covers in the past which tended to survive quite a while (10+ years) before getting tatty and eventually crumbling but that is to be expected. Got a fox in the area that has taken a fancy to my convertible, paw marks on both sides as she comes and goes.
I cannot believe i have to look towards the States for something of decent quality at a reasonable price.
Have had similar problems with foxes. Even had one crap on my roof once. Cats are even worse: the claws can do proper damage to a convertible roof.
By the way I'd recommend avoiding anything advertised as "breathable". In my experience this means "not properly waterproof" which in turn means that rainwater will get in, dry and then leave a residue between the cover and the car. That's a recipe for paint damage.

I disagree with this, make sure it's breathable to stop the build up of moisture/condensation, especially over the winter months when it's cold overnight and then sunny in the AM.

My outgoing GT4 lived outside for the past 3 years. I used a cover for two reason; over the horrible winter months (when the car was on a trickle charge), and in the summer I used it to protect from the UV/pollen etc.
I had/have one of these, which I would thoroughly recommend. The Outdoor Pro (with Stormshield+). Breathable and a perfect bespoke fit:

When I had exactly that cover it was guaranteed for 3 years. I see it’s down to 1 year now? You can be pretty sure they changed it for a reason (obviously YMMV etc).
I stand by what I said re: breathable covers. Modern cars don’t fall apart with a bit of condensation, although frankly I’ve never noticed any less condensation under covers marketed as “breathable”. I’ve definitely seen more rainwater getting in to them though.

They don't do 992 ones.

I stand corrected - I hadn't noticed the extra drop down to select variant! doh!
I too recommend them albeit it did ruin the body work of my 944T - I think a car cover long term for years and years eventually has a negative outcome vs ceramic coating and good maintenance washes.

TBH, the 992.2 GT3 is in fact missing from the list and the one i needed lol. Seems they only list the .1. Of course, little difference but it's quite a comprehensive list and captures every iteration of each model too.

I just got one of these for my 996.2 GT3 with Manthey spoiler.
Whilst the Specialised Covers workmanship is excellent I would probably pay for another courier as DX (the company they currently use) are worse than sh#t.
DX email to say it will be delivered and then don't send it out that day and if you nominate a neighbour they send it to the wrong neighbour. You get an email to say it has been delivered but it doesn't say where or who it has gone to. Two days wasted by DX saying they were delivering that day and then don't bother.
I complained to SC and their response was they were 'all the same'.
I have to say I have had minor issues with others but nothing as bad as DX. DHL/ Fedex and even the PO have been neck and shoulders above.
I also had to send an item back via DX and gave up (with their 'were coming' emails) and took it to the depot myself in the end. I STILL got an email saying they were picking it up the next day. This was on the day I rang them up in the morning to confirm they had registered the item as I dropped it off the previous evening (1800 hrs) and the girl said she would get the supervisor to print the label for it. Hence my call the next day to 'make sure'. DX = Complete clowns.........
Rant complete.

This might seem like a daft question, but is there any point in getting a car cover if my car lives in the garage?
Currently, it is on the drive, because the dimwitted builders need to re finish my garage floor, so I am less than impressed that my 997 is sitting on the drive for a week. Nevertheless it will be sitting in the garage from November over the winter with occasional runs so it isn't in full hibernation mode.
I wondered if an OEM Porsche cover was the best option, and whether an outdoor cover will work for both indoor and the occasional outdoor use? They're about £243 with custodian discount (for both indoor our outdoor). Or should l I get a cheap cover to keep the dust off and damp?

Depends on how non dusty the garage is and how long each time it is under the cover ?
Indoor covers are just that and are very different “ construction “ to outdoor one’s.
Specialised covers and Classic additions do them and are both excellent.
I had the Porsche one when it came with my GT3 but was very thin and non fleecy in comparison.
The other alternative ( which I do when I can’t be ar*ed to put the full covers on inside or when they have been washed and I leave them for 24 hours ) is to just quickly cover them with some cotton blankets.

Cheers, I just realised it was a 992 thread when you replied, but same difference for this purpose
I might just do that for now, been using fleece blankets, but dust just penetrates them. It won't be as dusty once 'said builder' has remedied the garage floor!!
Indeed and not sure it matters which car model it’s needed for.
Both Specialised and Classic do both made to car and off the shelf generic.
I had one of CA’s for my long departed TT 225 which years later fitted my Exige 410 a treat !
