So these chromies will be gone soon and replaced with a glossy black 5 spoke wheel.

Sure the ET67's will "fit" the widebody....it just narrows the track ( unless spacers are used).....but you can't use ET46 on a narrow body ( will hit the rear fender)...

I finally got around to checking the stamp in the back.

If I was running Titanium lug bolts , I would use the "higher torque spec" (118ft/lbs) that Porsche allows, and also carfully apply the Optomal Grease as outined in the workshop maunal...And also check the torque more frequently..

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Good day all, my car came with two sets of wheels (winter and summer). The summer wheels look great, but they are not really my style, and I'm not sure they really "fit" the car. I'm going to post some pics of the wheels on here. Looking for any suggestions, or even trade recommendations.
The wheels are 19" shiny OEM 5 spoke wheels. They are in perfect condition. I'm not into chrome. Does anyone on here think I can trade them for something a little more age appropriate? DM me for more pics.
Yea, they are not suppose to be chrome....Those look like the OEM Fuchs 997 Turbo 1 style in the widebody offsets....Pretty common wheel but they were never availble in chrome.... Someone had them chrome plated...( they should have done something to the rusty bolt also
)
'
Hi Phil, fellow 996 C4S owner from Montreal. Try Kijiji, there may be a 997 owner who wants to upgrade to 19" wheels and doesn't mind the chrome. I got my winter wheels on Kijiji from a 997 owner unloading a set he didn't want anymore. Good luck!
PS: If you see an arctic silver C4S with a Thule roof rack don't be shy and say hi
Would you trade the rims in the photos above with these I just found on Kijiji?
Thoughts?
This is for a Seal Grey Metallic C4S Cabriolet.
I may be looking at paying a few hundred dollars for the trade.
I definetly would. Those actualy look like the rims I have for winter but in silver. IMO black > chrome and 18">19" especially for a daily driver. So even with a little extra I'd take the trade. Tires will generaly be cheaper on 18"s also.
I also have the silver rims for winter. Agreed, they look so much better on the car. For a while, I was debating having one set of rims and just swapping tires every season, but I feel way more comfortable having tires on rims ready to go.
There fixed it for you...
.. Those rusty bolts botherd me to no end......
I would buy them in a heartbeat if they were narrow body offsets.( even with the chrome plating )...The narrow body Fuchs are very rare, the wide body Fuch wheels came on most all 997 Turbo's and are quite common....
Edit: also FWIW , I don't like blacked- out wheels ...to me it deminishes the asthetics of the wheel design....
Quick question since rusty bolts were brought up. Are there any concerns with Titanium lug bolts? I plan on buying a set from Acer Racing but wasn't sure if there are any considerations using those vs standard bolts.
FWIW I'm not crazy about black wheels either but I do prefer them over chrome. It's so subjective though and don't judge anyones choices in the aesthetics dept.
That's a tough question and depends on your case use and economics pattern..
For sure the factory finish is very dissapointing on the lug bolts with them rusting easily.....
But for just looks and/or economcs you can get plastic caps in chrome/black/ silver ( for Audi's) that will fit over the OEM bolts and fill that void..
And IF you are into head to head competition and need every once of weight savings ( especially on unsprung weight) , and cost is no concern, then Titanium is what you want...( even with the higher maintenance and less fatigue factors, they hold up very well)..
Then there is tons of middle ground...( like I said tough question but I don't think there is any "wrong" answer ) .. hope that helps....
Awesome, I will get teh appropriate length for the spacers of course (5mm front and 23mm rear). You keep the same torque setting?
My main motivation for these is the corrosion I face daily driving in the winter. What do you mean by higher maintenance, fatigue factors? I do not track the car (yet) and even when I will it will be a few times a year for DE events.
EDIT: Sorry to highjack this thread
If I was running Titanium lug bolts , I would use the "higher torque spec" (118ft/lbs) that Porsche allows, and also carfully apply the Optomal Grease as outined in the workshop maunal...And also check the torque more frequently..
Titanium has a higher tensil strength, but a lower fatigue strength than steel..Also the expansion rate in high temps is greater on Titanium than on steel ...
They hold up very well even on the track, but there has been instances of them loosening at high heat.at the recomended 96ft/lbs of torque...hence the updated higher torque spec...
Having a wheel come loose on a vehicle is something I take VERY seriously....and avoid at all costs...
Yes, these are from the 997. I finally got around to checking the stamp in the back. Good news its that I'm going ahead with that trade. So these chromies will be gone soon and replaced with a glossy black 5 spoke wheel.
Also, speaking of the lugs, you folks have just reminded me that I'll have to get a black set to go along with the new wheels. Any ideas on where I can get them?
May have to cancel this trade, just realised that he offset on those black wheels is 57 and 58. That's for the narrow body if I'm not mistaken. Don't think they will fit correctly on my car.
Thoughts? Confirmations?
To be honest my wheels may have teh same "narrow body" offset and tehy fit fine. I'll be able to confirm in a couple of weeks when I put on my summer wheels/tires.
The rear wheels for narrow body have ~ ET67 offset while the widebody have ~ ET46 offsets , meaning the widebody will have about 21mm per side wider track .. or about 41mm total wider track..
The fronts are the same on both narrow and wide body...
Sure the ET67's will "fit" the widebody....it just narrows the track ( unless spacers are used).....but you can't use ET46 on a narrow body ( will hit the rear fender)...
For now, I may just opt to swap tires in the summer, keeping my winter rims on the car. These are what I have now as winter wheels (which I really like).
I don't know what the offset is. They were put on by the dealership and I wasn't aware that offset was even a thing until i started this thread.
I just told the dealership (McLaren) that I needed winter rims, and they found me these. I really didn't even know what questions to ask at the time.
Rookie mistakes...
Is there a way to measure while the wheels are on the car?
This being said, I really do like these wheels. I find they suit the car very well.
So an update on this. I found a place here in Montreal to refinish my wheels in satin black. The price was much less than buying new wheels. Also, surprisingly, a set of 19" Michelin 4S are the same as a set of 18". I had to check twice but its what I found. In any case. I'll be running car in summer on 19" (this is how it was run previously so I'm not envisioning any issues). The wheel shop is suggesting I put spaces on the wheels to make them look more aggressive. Not sire I need any more aggression in my life, but wanted to get the thoughts of folks in this thread. Should i be concerned about the AWD system if the wheel spacing is modified? I see some older posts with mixed answers.
