A Touring specific embossed surface is used on the leading edge of the dash and under the leather featured on the top of the doors; there is also a brushed anodised surface in black to other sections of the cabin including door sills. The black theme continues to the roof lining and fabric inserts to the seat centres.

I wonder the same thing, I thought it was the same as the last gen with the change what you've noted.

Interested in pricing and options for 992 GT3.
What do we know so far?
Will a 992 GT3 match 991.2 GT3 RS? New front suspension and all......
🤔
Who has has a spot in the queue?
I understand deliveries from Q3 2021?
Details will be announced around Jan25. Enters production in March. Touring will be announced in May and enter production in July. Ring time will be fractionally faster than 991.2 GT3 RS. I have seen the car in person testing at the Ring and watched the car chase down and pass a factory 991.2 GT3 RS down the Dottinger Hohe. So you will effectively be getting 991 RS performance for a GT3 price. Price increase will be contained to around 8%.
Yes. Should be. Will potentially knock the stuffing out of 991.2 GT3 RS prices....and I own two..... but one will be replaced by a Touring so I will have a foot in both camps.
The story was written by Kyle Fortune who I personally know. He test drove and wrote a story on my 996 RS for Total911 magazine only last February. He knows a lot more about the new GT3 than is disclosed here...as you would expect. But I can tell you that it is going to be super value at $370K which is only a 5% (or thereabouts) price increase over the 991.2 isn’t it?
Ended up watching the launch live. What was the verdict?
Just 10hp more at 510hp suggests they are nearing the limit of NA development? Sub 7m Nordschleife time, 17s quicker than the old car and faster than a 918 is frankly amazing
😲
the front end seems like the big thing, everything else seems more incremental like it’s 991.3?
I’m sure it will sell out as usual. be interesting to see first drive impressions and back to back tests.
17 seconds quicker? That's a LOT of time, so it must have much, much superior handling, grip, downforce, brakes, acceleration and power to shave that much time off
Lots more downforce probably helps at lot around there, not so much on an SMT
😂
who’s ordering one.......? How much........”
Lap time 6:59.9 vs 991.2 GT3RS 6:56, within 4 seconds but I’ll bet they tried bloody hard to go faster for marketing purposes.
7 -
Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991.2)
- 6:56:04
17secs is a lifetime at the ring. If you were to stand at the overpass of Dottinger Hohe and count 17secs, the distance between the two cars would be over 1 Kilometre!
Although a good chunk of the time difference is probably due to the use of CUP R tyres.
I will have one in Shark Blue...without the wing.
A mate has one ordered (has had for about 6 months or so). They are expecting deliveries around September with a starting price as you've called out, around $380k
You can’t actually order anything yet. What your mate probably means is that like me, I have had a EOI deposit down at PCM for 2+ years which is not really an order.
They make a big fuss of the ability to manually shift PDK via the lever. Hasn't that always been possible? The only changes appear to be it has an alcantara boot and is shaped like a manual gearshift.
Correct.
I think the fuss was caused by the fact that the 992 Carrera has the 8-sp PDK without the ability to shift gears via the console and a lot of people were assuming it would be the same. But the GT3 has the same 7spd PDK as the last gen so it was always going to have the ability to change gears via the stick.
Yeah your right. Technically he has one of those "vehicle expression of interest agreements" that he's executed along with the deposit he's forked out.
They are telling him he should have it later this year.
Haha love Edgy's plug for the 991.2 values going up!
I know you're taking the piss but I agree with you! Id rather have what's in your garage personally. The 992 styling is too far of a departure from what the 911 should be. Looks are subjective I know, but its not the sort of car you'd turn around to look at after locking it up. I am not a player in this market however, so what I think probably doesn't matter anyway!
Good info here, yes tyre plays a big part, aided by front wishbones and improved aero. He also explains the 20.6 vs 20.8km track times so the 992 is 6:55, 1 second quicker than 991.2 RS comparing both on the same 20.6km lap. Frankly amazing because the RS was a monster (1:37.7 around Phillip Island
😲
)
Yep amazing. What was the gap between the 1.2 GT3 and the 1.2 RS? That gives a better idea given the 2 is a bit quicker than the RS. Porsche has done it again.
I believe the 1.2 GT3 ran on cup 2 tyres where the 1.2 RS ran on Cup 2 “R” tyres so you expect a bigger difference than if they ran on the same tyres. I doubt there will be as much difference in the 992 times unless they pull the old tyre compound trick again.
What would be the probability of getting a GT3 touring if I have never owner a GT car before and go and join the wait-list with a refundable deposit next week? I do get 2 current cars serviced at Porsche Centre, but am a long long long way off from being a premium client?
You’ll get one, you’ll just have to buy a Taycan and Cayenne to match
😂
Sorry, not helping, I actually have no clue how the process works and how they decide who gets an allocation but have seen lots on YouTube suggesting at least overseas P dealers do play games along those lines.
I have my hat in the ring for a GT4 RS but not holding my breath.
The deposit is only $5k and is fully refundable. Seems to me that Australian dealers get a good allocation of GT cars since the RRP is so much higher relative to other RHD markets, obviously taking into account a fair chunk goes as taxes, and not to the bottom line of the company.
DJM- you only just bought the 1.2 GT3 and already thinking of the next P-car? Playa!
The EoI has been in for a while. I very nearly cancelled it after buying the GT3 but decided for $3k I’d maintain my place in the queue and see what happens. I doubt very much I’ll get a car or that I could stomach the option list on a new RS.
Just priced up a Shark Blue GT3 on the configurator with my preferred options and....ouch...$464K in VIC....almost what my 991.2 RS cost me ($476K). That's a big money for a GT3 and significant price hike compared to the 991.2 GT3.
I just specd one as near as possible to my 991.2 and it was $60K more drive away in VIC. There are a few extras for that like the FRP bonnet and lightweight battery while some of what I optioned on the .2 is now standard. Even the GT3 has now succumbed to the silly start stop. Really how many drive one daily in heavily congested traffic?
For those interested the 992 GT3 Touring differentiates itself from the Winged version inside the cabin as well.
The changes see a Black theme consisting of more leather ( dashboard, outer Seat panels with Porsche logo to the top section, tops of doors, centre console side pieces as well as compartment lid) with GT silver stitching. A Touring specific embossed surface is used on the leading edge of the dash and under the leather featured on the top of the doors; there is also a brushed anodised surface in black to other sections of the cabin including door sills. The black theme continues to the roof lining and fabric inserts to the seat centres.
I assume the sun visor and carpets are also the Black.
A couple of PTS options for the 992
British Racing Green
Brewster Green
Brewster Green Touring
Dark Sea Touring
Carrara White Touring
Gulf Orange Touring
I see quite a few doing this, looks ok
👍🏼
the thought did cross my mind. If i went a winged car i’d have to go Club sport with cage, harnesses hmmm.
Then…..
I’m thinking if I prefer the paired down look I may as well buy a Touring which has well and truly established its self now, recognized for the subtle differences from Its track focussed sibling both inside and out.

So boring he is almost asleep at the wheel
🙄
needs to be manual
😂
what an awesome track love to drive it one day
I drove a public day there that was 10x busier than that. 8 laps of terror. Mostly because of the speed differential between slow and fast cars, also the lack of margin for error, and the fees involved for hitting anything are immense. Never mind the car.
Definitely not for the faint of heart (or pretenders like me). Ring taxi was well worth it though.
Brand new M5 driven at 9/10ths by a professional driver in bulk traffic.
10/10 - would recommend. I know why they had spew bags in there, was not expecting him to go that hard
😂
I’ve done it twice, epic but not what I’d call fun. We chose slow-ish cars, too risky in a fast car and no prior experience. The dudes in tweaked GT3s and M3/4s zapped past at warp speed. The bus load of Korean tourists was interesting…….and the family in a diesel Peugeot wagon. Crazy place.
Hard to believe that they don't have session times aimed at trying to level things out somewhat. If its one for all i can see how accidents could easily happen with closing speeds and unique times cornering lines
😬
😬
I did a lap on the bike then a real lap in the ring taxi . After that I knew I was never capable of driving like that . I am a poor passenger at the best of times
You need to come more prepared to go to Coles these days than do a lap of The Ring . I could not believe it was like entering a car park one after another
Bit like me being in the passenger seat of a 991 GT3RS at Luftwasser - 4 identical cars all having a real go on the way back from the country pub on the Saturday. Made me realise I didn't really aspire to own one, and that my 996 GT3 could get me into enough trouble as it was......
Unless you really have no other option, IMHO, Tourisfarhten days at the ring should be avoided. On most days, there are a lot of cars with vast differences in closing speeds and driving skills. One minute you are closing in on a VW van at a vast rate of knots wondering if they have seen you and next you have a ring guru closing you down. You spend so much time looking in the rear view mirror for faster cars or overtaking slower cars, that its hard to focus on driving the correct lines. After doing a few Tourisfarhten days, I swore off them.
Instead, I started doing private track days and closed training days with Porsche, preferably with an instructor. You can learn more in two days than you could doing dozens of Tourisfarhten sessions. And do it safely.
Sadly, now that I am permanently back in OZ, these days are pretty much over.
Did a few Ring Taxi laps way back in the days it seems as well as a private track day. As WGA mentioned
Tourisfarhten days are not something I would EVER venture into as the disparity in cars, expectations and most importantly skill level of the drivers is INSANE!!
We spent a day crusing aroudn teh various watching locations and saw more than a few brown pants moments as well as a few accidents requiring the guys in high-vis vests to come calling. One was minor-ish, the other two were write-off and one of those required a ambulance.
10/10 to visit, watch and have someone who really knows what they are doing show you how its done or supervised...Free for all run what ya brung Tourisfarhten days are a hard pass for me...
Remember it’s a public road so you buy a ticket and do a lap, no helmet required, kids in the car, bus loads of tourists, anything goes. Trouble is Mr GT2 RS MR with helmet is out there at the same time and on a flier so disparity in speed is massive. Having said that, they say these guys shouldn’t gun for a lap time on Tourist days. But white line fever takes over.
we found majority of people are sensible, only passing on the left helps and slower guys tend to indicate and get out of the way.
It’s an epic crazy experience but both times I’ve been, me and a mate did 10 laps each and then got the hell out thanking our lucky stars we didn’t crash or get crashed into. It’s like Bathurst, you survive and say never again and then over time you find you want another go……..2013 I said never again. 2017 I said never again. I was booked to go back May 2020, taking my brother to have a go at Ring and Spa , visit Sinsheim, Porsche Museum and the usual haunts that he’s never been to but Covid killed it. I’ve promised him we WILL do it but it’ll probably be 2023 now in full PPE……
😂
I was there 2 days, the first day we saw 3 cars in a row hit some coolant / oil or something and end up binning it from a spectator point in the space of 10 mins (one of them a 991 GT3 RS). About an hour before that I'd been out in the taxi.
When we drove it the following day there were at least 5 accidents, two of them fairly serious, enough to write off the cars anyway (drivers unharmed).
Never again. Closed track or nothing.
This times 100000. I've never been so white-knuckled in my life driving the tourist session in that much traffic with such a disparity between skill levels. Asians in a hire car with luggage piled up so they can't see out the back, driving around 70 kph, while some local in a worked GT3 RS flies past them at damn near 300 kph. You're stuck in the middle trying to get out of the way of one, while avoiding running up the back of the other.
Not my favourite going to the right onto marbles at 180 kph.
Hard pass.
Its amazing really given the only things that have changed externally are the deletion of the rear wing and the body color to front bumper.
Closer inspection reveals its truth pretty quickly.
Prefer to run under the radar myself keeping the package concealed until required.
😂
Makes sense to me, says he who has a nice understated, common as muck (well almost) Arctic Silver 996 GT3. Quite a few silver Caymans around here, "officer are you sure it was this car being reported........"
😉
992 GT3 dyno run producing 490hp at the wheels and on this run - I noted peak torque at 438 - Porsche official 502hp at the flywheel and 346tq

Well done looks great in the Gentian- gold wheels look like they’re the new black. Ive heard there is not many cars coming to Aus this year your one of the lucky ones, love to see it in the flesh.
Porsche Centre Adelaide have one of the 70th Anniversary cars on display at the moment. Not sure if it’s for a customer or a promotional vehicle doing the rounds. Could only take a look through the window but Fish Silver has a lot more green in it than the press photos indicated. Very cool colour IMO. The emblem on the B pillar to denote the special edition looks cheap and nasty. Terribly un-patriotic of me to say this, but the Aussie flag doesn’t belong on a 911. The rest is beautiful. One little thing I noticed, the stone guard textured paint along the bottom sill extends quite high up onto the sides of the car. Difficult to explain but it’s clearly visible when you look at the profile of the car up close.
Shitty pic because of the reflection but it captures the green tinge to the paint.
Thanks for the photo having seen the 356 that the color was taken from i new what expect. Just great to see a car here hopefully we see a few more photos soon
I don't know if this will impact timelines, but wasn't there a huge engine recall on 4L 718s?
Perhaps that is something to do with it. Haven't heard a peep about the RS or the GT4 RS either.
Here is my story to date
After placing an EOI on a Touring 18months ago, it was around 3 months ago i got a call to come in and place a deposit.
At this stage i specified a car and a contract with a Deal ID was issued (the spec can be changed leading up to the built slot being allocated)
So thats as much as I know, I have been led to believe that my delivery would be around the middle of next year and that things will need to be finalised around Feb /March 22 which is when i assume the official allocation is confirmed
🤷🏻♂️
Saw one in flesh at GCPC - photos do NOT do it justice ! It's a very pretty car and the delicate green 'Fish grey' is hard to catch by camera- i did a bit of colourisation tweeking so as to render the colour as I saw it
🙂
I can’t stand the rear on the 992. To my eyes no wing makes it worse too.
Goes to show how subjective looks are - heard more than a few people say they love it.
Saw the 70th in the flesh at Porsche Parramatta yesterday, it’s another ‘you need to see it’ colour like Miami. Wouldn’t order that off the configurator without having seen it.
I think it is moving to the next location early this week so call before you make the trip. It’s the Porsche Cars Australia one and it is rolling around to all the dealers, I’m sure they can tell you who is getting it next.
No pics, but I can tell you it has the new pcm from the Taycan in it, and I wasn’t a huge fan of the colour. The rest of the car was interesting. Its a shame that the majority will never get driven.
First 992 GT3 I’ve seen out in the wild in Adelaide, driving down my street today! Heard it coming as I was outside washing my 996. The exhaust note is definitely fairly muted compared to the 991. Looked great, especially in white.
There was a Python Green one at PCB yesterday. I have to say that it blew me away how good it looked in the flesh. Much more RS looking of old than GT3.
They also had a 991.2 GT3 lined up behind it which made comparisons easy.
IMG_4637.mov
I’d have to agree. It’s very “motorsport” right out of the box, which is appealing and the way the GT3 should be IMO. The RS is going to be outrageous.
IMG_1916.MOV
@sleazius
I don’t see how those end plates could ever be made to be “pedestrian safe”. I’d expect the final product to be dumbed down a bit from that. Surely?

It was more a comment about the scale of the thing - check out a photo in profile, the wing is sitting well above the roof line. The design of it is also giving me heavy JDM after market vibes.
I only give a stuff because I've got an EOI in on one.
The new GT3 on track with Phil from Drift Works who owns a wheel and suspension workshop in the UK. This is his 1st time on the track with the 992 after running it in; he does have a 997.2GT3 and did have a 991.1 GT3; in this video he tracks alongside Al who is in a 996 GT3 with Manthey racing mods.
The RS version is quite openly a track focussed car first and foremost so the wing makes sense. I think we are lucky its even made and available. From memory the brochures used to say this - by Porsche and I think its still the same....
GT3 20% track and 80% road
GT3RS 80% track and 20% road ....
ie: the wing is there for laps not looks.
On the limit !!!
Each newer model is designed to be incrementally better of course they are all great cars to me; its just great to see them on the track being spanked.
Not a bad 1st track day all the same.
I was lapping with a manual one at the bend last week on the international circuit. Its lap times were in the vicinity of 2:03 sec or 11-12 seconds per lap slower than a 991 cup car. The car was being piloted by an experienced Porsche racer.
Off the top of my head on the same day, a 991.2 was doing 2:05, a GT4 with A052 tyres and full fabspeed exhaust/tune was doing 2:05 and a GT2RS 2:03. I’ve done 2:09 in my stock 996 GT3 and 2:01 in the 996 cup. All times quoted above are by experienced drivers. (996 cups did 1:37s at PI back in the day when they were run by pros in Carrera Cup).
The 992 was off the showroom floor, just run in, no alignment changes. I’d imagine PDK with an alignment tweak would be a 2min lap . Basically. they’re fooking fast
😄
I hear on the grapevine that in the last week or so people are getting their GT3 Touring allocations confirmed with build dates. So far it's been pretty much crickets from mine so interested to hear from anyone who has had a 992 GT3 Touring allocation confirmed from their dealer.
Nothing as yet either, I've been told that the 1st batch of Touring's they focussed on the 70th Anniversary Model which has delayed the other build slots. I have heard of 1 person out of NSW getting a March build slot recently; my dealership PCB (vic) there has been 2 x 70th additions this year a PTS slot in Feb and 2 others in the 1st Qtr.
Hoping to hear late Jan early Feb at this stage.
Sorry to disappoint you but.....it's PDK.
I have been there and done that with a manual in my 991.2 GT3 Touring....and I have to say....irrespective of what Chris Harris says....to me, its not the GOAT that everyone seems to think it is. I had a somewhat of a love-hate relationship with the manual box. Especially 3rd-2nd which would seriously baulk in left hand corners when the car was heavily loaded....and 4th-5th which had a bit of an awkward "across and up" action. In chatting to other owners, nearly everyone who had experienced a money shift, it was accidentally grabbing 3rd when they wanted 5th. I was one of those.
So I am not automatically a manual romantic...nor am I a manual luddite.....because at the same time I also owned a 964 RS, 996 GT3 RS and a 997 GT3 RS...and never had a problem with any of those boxes.
Also, having also owned a PDK 991.2 GT3 (with wing) and a 991.2 GT3 RS, I came to the conclusion that you can extract much more of the character of the engine....more of the time....with a PDK.
Oh...and yes, it is Shark Blue.
Normally on face value, I'd say its disappointing, but knowing your history of cars I get it... and having recently added a 2 pedal Carrera 2, I can honestly say, I love having a 911 that is daily friendly, I drive that thing everywhere! My RS will never see the same usage, and I am sure those are the same sentiments you share?
PS - have you kept the Red Aussie RS?
For the moment, yes. The Touring will join the garage...but....I am just not getting the use of the RS that I used to get in Europe and the UK with my green one. So I may move it on and get something older. I especially want a 964 again (just a C2 not an RS this time around) but all the cars that tend to come up for sale in Australia are pretty much rubbish so I will probably get one from trusted sources in the UK.
Haven't heard 'money shift' in a while -
Shark blue is extremely awesome (cornflower whatever). I'm sick of Porsche offering a palette of crap colours to entice you to take up PTS. Nice choice.
I want to grab a M3 touring as a daily when they land here, but that face is one that only a mother could love. I'm assuming you just don't notice it after a while?
Oddly, I never disliked it from the get go and, in the flesh, it looks pretty aggressive. I don't think it will take long for people to accept it.
I actually wanted to get a 992 GTS Cab as I had previously owned a 991.1 GTS cab and really enjoyed the car. But, Australia won't be receiving any 992 GTS cabs until 2023 and with 2 summers between now and then, I went out and bought what I think is the next best thing - a M4 Competition conv.
I have only had the car 1 week and in that time it has become my "go to car" I have not touched the Boxster GTS 4.0 or anything else in that time. It's that addictive. It's got huge performance, rides pretty well, sounds terrific when you are up it and quiet when you are not. Indeed, after only one week I am seriously asking myself do I now want a 992 GTS cab at more than DOUBLE the price. I reckon its a performance bargain.
Great feedback and what you say makes sense. I also agree that the PDK does extract more / or a different character from the engine with shorter gearing lightning shifts electronic diff etc. For me though as I don't have the luxury of multiple cars at this point in time it makes the decision more difficult based on my actual experience. If i had an older manual air cooled car that met those needs I could ?probably be tempted into a PDK.
However manual wins out for the engagement, the challenge is whats satisfying for me as manual boxes go surely its up there with the best.
As you describe the difficulties in certain shift environments for my mind that right there is the beauty of a manual, get it right and there’s no better driving experience.
I can only relate to living with a PDK style box with one of the families GTI Performance In DSG format. (I know its not a GT3 but bare with me)
20% of the time i drive the car in a sports environment I feel engaged even then i just dial the settings up and let it do its own thing, 80% of the time I'm just a passenger which i just don't find satisfying enough, its good, nice, faultless, quick but just not satisfying enough of the time.
This is just my thoughts, an opinion its certainly not a defence of the manual.
i look forward to hearing about the car when you get it.
cheers Scott
I originally ordered my black 3 in a manual, as my 991.2 ‘3’ is the same, and I have always enjoyed shifting myself. But changed my mind after reading about the new ‘manual style’ shifter, and the ability to ‘push/pull’….and I am thrilled that I did. To me, it’s a perfect compromise between having the amazing shift speeds of a PDK, together with the push/pull shifter…works like a charm. Never touch the paddles, or auto. Love this car.
Down shift is forward upshift is backwards which I think would feel natural - putting the shifter into manual mode in RHD pushes it away from you which is a shame more suited to LHD
991 GT3 you can manually shift via push/pull of the shifter. I’m not clear on all the fuss around the “manual style” shift for PDK in 992. To me, all that’s changed is the leather boot and a round knob like a manual but the functionality is the same. Am I missing something?
Yes but they imply it’s some new thing for PDK that approximates manual driving. A crock of shit given prior models had the same setup! Marketing at work.
It's like everyone losing their minds over "double wishbone" suspension...mx5's have it. Not arguing the car isn't blisteringly fast and fun to drive, just that marketing seems to have focused on some odd stuff with the 992 gt3.
I don’t agree that it’s a ‘c of s’….it’s actually the feel of the manual shifter that creates the compromise I mentioned, as compared to the previous toggle lever. But I guess you’re entitled to call it whatever you like. Luckily we all have different tastes.
I agree. I have been doing the history of Ferrari in our Fun Facts segment, and they only switched to double wishbones in 1962, so it is pretty new technology
I think its more focussed on Porsche has just broken with tradition by fitting the double wishbone, than thinking they've reinvented suspension technology. If it's improved the handling of the car, then that's a good improvement
First one I’ve seen on the secondary market. Someone wants a bit of profit!

Relative to the market it seems priced about right. If you consider that the 992 GT3 deliveries are well down on what was forecasted for Australia to date and there appears to be very little information on how many more Australia will be getting. To date they have build slot allocations up to the end May.
Based on this I'd say there will be a lot of people whom had allocations that will be missing out all together now......... unless they build more beyond 2022 which seems unlikely with the GT4RS and GT3RS to be built on the same line as well as all the std 911's and caymans.
Spoken like a truly independent 992 GT3 owner to be
😂
.
991 didn’t have a toggle lever. Same shifter as 992 GT3 PDK has just different knob and boot. The crock of shit reference is that they make it out to be the first time you can push/pull shift a PDK. Umm, no, that’s always been how it operated. Nothing new other than how it looks.
Looks like another:

This time almost 200K over sticker!
Honda preludes had double wishbone back in the day.
But hey I’m old enough to remember when ‘twin cam’ was a big marketing thing. They could have used that for the 996. It’s hilarious what’s been used to get people excited about cars over the years. Ford made a big deal about the mustang getting IRS when nearly every other car on the road had it. Most car buyers are clueless and arrive with a large information deficit, so feeding them a feature to ask for makes the customer feel special.
marketing people love to pull out some rando feature and make it a big deal. They have empty adverts to fill and the 911 evolves pretty slowly.
