My 2001 Boxster needs a new rear window which means a new convertible roof. The old window is plastic that folds in the middle of the plastic. Please comment on changing to a glass window re special requirements with frame? visability? cost? recommended manufacturers? ease of installing it myself? .... or any comments you think worthwhile.

My 986 had a plastic window, had to exit the car mid drop and situate the plastic for the best longevity. I didn't own it long enough to replace the top. However, I did see what was available, the glass will be a bit smaller than the plastic, so the rear view loses a tad. However, having it be glass is worth that compromise IMO. Top operation should not be different. Check the cables and cable ends. Changing them when the clam shell is synchronized and while it's being done is good preventive maintenance. Frame stays the same, check out GAHH tops. Doing a top is tricky, I did a few but not a modern Porsche . I'd recommend having it done.
