Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Details: Bought a 2001 911 Carrara motor with 35k on it. Its going into a 2000 Boxster S. I am prepping the motor for install and need to know the following on precautions. Car will be used for PCA events and weekend driving. Original Chain Guides - Is age a concern? Does the plastic weaken over time? With the plastic being over 20 years old is this a factor on replacing them even though the motor has low millage? Oil was not showing any plastic from the guides. Pinning the IMS Shaft - I'm hesitant on breaking the motor in half and pulling the IMS shaft out to pin it with the low millage. Is there an actual percentage on this failure and at what kind of millage? I have not read much on main cause of this. Thoughts on whether to make the extra effort on this? Precautionary Items Already Completed: - Dual IMS Bearing Replaced - Any O-rings, seals, and gaskets were replaced that I could get to without removing the valve covers and breaking motor down. - Thermostat, water pump, deep sump kit.

POST 2Original post

I would do the variocam pads as it will never be easier then when the motor is out. The reality is they r probably fine if u dont want to pull the covers. Probably put a new aos in too.

I would replace plugs and coil packs if it has not been done. much easier with engine out. Check all serpentine belt pulleys, check connections at alternator and starter for corrosion and tightness, again much easier with engine out
