Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Anyone got any advice on removing the screen from the brake fluid reservoir on a '99 986 . Was all set up to do a brake fluid flush per 101 and I couldn't remove the screen from the reservoir so that I could remove some of the old fluid. I tried unscrewing it and just plain pulling it and it wouldn't budge.

POST 2Original post

I don’t know if it’s the same on your 986 , but on my 981 I had to use needle nose pliers to remove mine for the flush. Jim

POST 4Original post

I had trouble using needle nose on my 07 Cayman - not sure why - so just pried it up with a small screwdriver. Needed very little force - it just snaps in with a couple plastic detents, nothing very tricky.

POST 5Original post

Thanks. Tried the needle nose route initially but the reservoir moved more than the screen and I was concerned about cracking the reservoir. Thought there might be a trick I was missing. I guess I'll revisit it with the pliers and keep my fingers crossed.

POST 6Original post

Just bleed it all through the brakes. That’s what I have done on many cars without issues.
