now i replaced the flywheel with a used 1 and it vibrates all the time now,when i shut the car down it has a little rattle which tells me i got used junk,anyplace i can get a new flywheel cheap I dont want to crack another tranny.

I'd check the engine mounts and all others in the drive train. There is always vibration present that if allowed to go out of limits you'll get vibration.
If it were the IMS bearing it would sound like shaking a can of ball bearings the engine would stop running and most of the oil would be on the floor.
I was reading about vibration on another thread. There it was suggested that one of the variocam adjusters may have failed causing the valve timing on one side of the engine to be out of phase with the other. His vibration started violently at ~3k RPM.
Might have been my situation on Rennlist a few weeks back.. still no disposition to my mystery and I'm coming to terms with possibly having to buy a used motor. Sounds like similar symptoms. The key is if the symptoms still exist when the clutch is in. Here's the link to that thread;

Admins my apologies for posting from another forum and delete if nessisary, however I empathize with this guys situation.
That's a tough story. Indeed, a PPI would have probably caught the accident damage once the car was on the lift. I've had a few cars with similar stories, but thankfully, I bought them cheap enough that they just turned into a break-even deal, instead of a lose-money deal.

Did you ever get this resolved? What was the solution. I am in the same boat. I have a 99 996 and the bellhousing cracked. Replaced the tranny and the car still shake aggressively over especially above 3000 rpms. Would love to know your solution before I bite the bullet and replace the motor.
What are the cam deviation values? 3000 RPM is where the vario-cam kicks in. Did you put it on a Duremetric or Porsche dealer computer?
