Suggestion
During operation, the car performs flawlessly, however when I put it back in the garage, the gear shift level was stuck frozen in "D." I could not remove the key, so had to disconnect the battery.

Greetings! New to the forum...I have a '98 Boxster Tiptronic that recently has exhibited an issue with the transmission gear shift lever. During operation, the car performs flawlessly, however when I put it back in the garage, the gear shift level was stuck frozen in "D." I could not remove the key, so had to disconnect the battery. I checked on it the next morning, and the shift lever easily slid into "P," so I reconnected the battery and figured it might have been a one-off situation. Fast forward a week, I drove it again, and the same issue reared its head. The car performs flawlessly when driven, so I figured something was going amiss when it was hot. I did some research, and found an article that detailed my exact symptoms. Although mine is a '98, I believe it might be an early '98, as I'm experiencing this exact issue, which is absolutely heat related. Can anyone advise me as to what is involved with replacing this seemingly inexpensive part? I'm hoping replacement doesn't involve removal of the transmission. Thanks!

Well, in case anyone is interested, further research indicates that the valve body needs to be removed, at which time the part can be replaced, so the transmission does not need to come out of the car. Looks like around 4.5 hours on the books.
