Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

We have a truck leaving northern California heading this way at the end of next week, but I believe we filled the final slot available on it yesterday evening.

This way we can carry out all the steps related to the repair/ reconstruction here with no variables and that includes chassis dyno testing as well as on-road testing.

As we had discussed on the phone; we were the very first shop in the USA to take these engines seriously and develop internal repair regimens for them as well as offer complete reconstructed engines.
Use ln sleeving, new pistons etc, including the ims upgrade

My 996 intermix engine went to EBS and Don is rebuilding it for his 986 Boxster using the LN sleeving, new pistons etc, including the IMS upgrade.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am another unlucky 996 owner with Catastrophic Engine Failure. This evening I was talking with a fellow owner about the lack of knowledgable people re the M96 engine. He said to look into Jake Raby's shop and that it could be worth the cost of shipping the entire car to them. Does anyone have any personal experience with Jake Raby fixing their M96? jvm
My good friend shipped his car to Jake earlier this year after if blew. It was an 02 996. He had the full sleeve, IMS etc rebuild done and is just getting the car back now. It should be on track next week. He chose to send the whole car so that the engine could be repaired, installed and checked to make sure all was well. It certainly was.
In my opinion, there are only 2 shops that have a national reputation for high quality work. Jake at Flat 6 Innovations in Georgia and EBS Racing in Reno, NV. My 996 intermix engine went to EBS and Don is rebuilding it for his 986 Boxster using the LN sleeving, new pistons etc, including the IMS upgrade. The end result is the engine is much better than the original factory engine and you have options to build the 3.4 to a 3.8 with more hp and torque.
Jvmcnair,
It was nice chatting with you on the phone concerning your classic intermix issue. We see this over and over in the 2000 model year vehicles, both 996 and Boxster.
As tonythetarga references you should contact EBS before we engage in shipping your car cross country to us for the specialized services. They are much closer to you; they charge less and can get the car back to you much faster than we can.
We always prefer the entire car being shipped to us as long as the car is anywhere in North America and the shipping is easy. This way we can carry out all the steps related to the repair/ reconstruction here with no variables and that includes chassis dyno testing as well as on-road testing. I prefer to put a couple hundred miles on each car personally after our procedures are completed, so we can carry out the first service as well as other evaluations prior to shipping.
As an incentive for owners to ship their cars cross country we offer FREE extraction and installation of the engine to include all incidentals. Most shops will charge 3,000.00 to carry out this work, but the most it costs to ship a 996 is around 1K each way, so you can do the math on that and then also consider that there is no sales tax if we ship a car out of state. It means this much to us to personally install the engine and test it to my standards to ensure that it is performing exactly as all the others we have worked with in our extensive library. Doing this any other way creates variables that are not favorable for the owner or our reputation, so we refrain from even considering them.
About the only time that we don't see the vehicle is when an engine is shipped from abroad, like this one thats here from Hong Kong.
As we had discussed on the phone; we were the very first shop in the USA to take these engines seriously and develop internal repair regimens for them as well as offer complete reconstructed engines. We did this at a time when others in the industry laughed at us for even considering to work with an engine that at the time could be bought new from the factory for 5-7K; meanwhile our engine (even back then) was 15K+. It has taken many, many years for our program to attain its reputation and we do everything humanly possible to retain it.
We compromise nothing in pursuit of the best possible solutions to these problems. If you'd like to speak with owners; we can get you in touch with them. The majority of our purchasers are not "forumites" and here you probably won't find any, although I may be incorrect.

Our record for a single truckload is 3 Porsches delivered from California all at once :-)
