I am debating over a
Panamera
or a
986
and I would like to know whether the
Panamera
feels fast with the
pdk
and I'm leaning toward the
986
but would like to know if the
panamera
feels fast but I also might want the
panamera
for the practicality and the fact that I could fit more people in the
panamera
. I like the fact that most boxsters have a manual and ofc a convertible. Does the
panamera
feel fast and is it fun to drive.(with
pdk
manual mode)
You seem to be fixated on one criteria in this post. Those are two totally different types of cars, and I would think that "feels fast" would be way down the list of concerns in making the decision. Not only different type, but huge difference in the generations - a 986 is likely over 25yrs old and compared to modern Porsches, a seat-of-the-pants old-style sports car. The Panamera is a luxury coupe, not a sports car. Hell, almost a limousine in comparison to the 986 Boxster.
I would only add that if your quest is for being thrown back in the seat when you stomp it that’s only radical in the most exotic expensive
Porsche
models. “Feels fast” is relative, the V8 selections from domestics will offer you that. The
Porsche
will win the day once at speed with balance, poise and less weight.
I do understand they are very different cars, but I don't have a lot of limits or restrictions about this car. Also I'm sorry but calling the
panamera
a limo is a complete exaggeration. I would love to hear your answer to my question though.
The cars are designed for two different purposes. The
986
will be less luxurious and much noisier. The
Panamera
will be quicker by a noticeable degree. But its design is more “ civilized “ luxury coupe”, certainly it’s sporting like any
Porsche
. But the
986
is specifically sports car oriented. RSchwerer said it right and we all love
Porsche
cars here so I can promise you he was no way denigrating the
Panamera
, in fact he’s on point. .
I consider anything with 4 doors and back seat to be a boulevard cruiser. I said "
almost
a limousine in comparison to the 986 Boxster". Those cars are as different as night & day.
"Feels fast" is relative to what you are used to. Fast doing what? Straight line smoking the tires? Not interested. Doesn't take a Porsche to do that. Taking a tight decreasing radius turn at crazy speed to feel the lateral Gs? Now we're talking. Definitely the Boxster.
A mid engine sports car will always handle that type of performance better than a front or rear engine car. Regardless of transmission or HP.
Full Disclosure: I've never driven either.
Wading in these turgid waters... I did a
Porsche
event at Monticello long ago, after the 991 introduction... I drove the
911
,
911S
Boxter S,
Panamera
S(I think) and a
Panamera
hybrid. I remember the difference clearly. I came away feeling like the
Panamera
were big and slow to change direction, especially laterally. Felt big and heavy. Ibrember thinking that they probably felt taught and lively vs a big
bmw
sedan. A
986
S in later years has close to the power of my base
987.2
2.9l I guess you have to decide between a true sports car and a luxury sedan that performs well...
Thank all of yall so much. And I'm definitly not trying too smoke
tires
the corners are definitly what I'm talking about. Which one is more reliable is another question. With the
IMS bearing
fixed on the
boxster
.
