Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Vehicle: '01 TT Hi. I installed a backup camera in my car this weekend and in the process discovered that my backup lights don't work. It seemed like it would be an easy fix until the nice folks at Pelican Parts told me that the switch for the N/A 996's is different than the one for the turbo cars. I've read that that the switch is tied into some part near the gear selector, but I'm not sure what it is I'm looking for. I've also heard that there's a relay that could be the culprit. The issue isn't the B5 fuse (sadly). Can you help me get started on tracking down the issue? By the way, the camera gets a thumbs up! While the picture clarity isn't quite as good as a factory camera, it works well enough for me. I have an Alpine IWA-D310 headunit.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

By way of an update, it was the switch. A liberal cleaning with electrical contact cleaner and it works like a charm!!! Not only that, but now my mirrors tilt down when in reverse (as they are tied in to the same circuit). Woohoo!! Now, if only I could get all of these darned check engine light issues resolved.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
