I have a 991.1 4S - I obsessed about getting it but now I don’t drive it. I’ve noticed very few come up for sale, I presume not many were made and maybe like my love for Targas I’m the only one who likes them anyone know the real reason? Anyway my problem remains, sell or hold… any words of logic?

POST 2Original post

Why sell? Got somewhere better to park cash for fun or further uplift or you feel this car was one for such? Why hold? Will your love and priorities come back to it in the near future? Life’s too short to wonder- that’s why you lusted and you bought it, but if you’re lusting for something else go get it! 🚤

POST 6Original post

No better time to sell it if you plan on flipping it. I've been considering cutting back on the 'fleet' lately myself. Been threatening to sell my 997 for 3 years now. Never happens though.

POST 7Original post

It seems for some it's all in the thrill of the chase. Once obtained, it sits, and without a conscious effort to get out and use it they loose their appeal. I don't know if the local scene in Syd is lacking in efforts to get out for regular drives but I see a lot of cars sitting in NSW (maybe it's their crappy weather?) Seems like a shame to sell it, especially if you haven't had the opportunity and/or company to enjoy it properly. Use the rest of the rubber left before you move it on I say.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 373588

I think it may be a mixture of both!. A drive in Sydney first involves a > 1 hour drive OUT of Sydney. And agree, the weather has been super terrible too - probably should have bought a canoe rather than a 996.... :drown: PS: If anyone is looking to go for a drive, hit me up!

POST 10Original post

Quotes source posts: 373588, 373597

For me currently it's less the weather and more the condition of our NSW regional roads.  The Oxley Highway is lovely and close to me, however two years of really wet weather has led to land slips and hugely degraded B roads which haven't seen any attention.  I understand there's no point repairing the roads until this weather spell is clearly over, but there will be some serious long-term engineering and spending required.  NSW is already drifting into Victoria's lazy policy of lowering speed limits rather than improving or repairing roads (much better camera return).

It is definitely the size of Sydney and how difficult it is to traverse that limits local drives. Personally I'm not going to make the effort to join an almost suburban run that frankly is a procession because of heavy handed policing. You have to get out to the boonies, and for most Sydney-siders, that could take 90 mins or more to get to the start point, even on the weekend. I'm an extreme case but the quickest route by road to get to Sydney CBD is 76km. Bondi is 83km. Narrabeen is 87km. My suburb is within the city boundary. tldr: Sydney is huge and poorly designed. So car runs are infrequent.

I’ll add a couplemore in close proximity to sydney. Wiseman’s Ferry, across the punt, turn right. Head towards Gosford. Home. Camden- razorback mountain and the back way to Mittagong then home to Sydney. Bells line of road to Mount Victoria. Stop for scones and coffee and home. theres 5 drives. 2-5 hour time investment. now get out and drive and enjoy your cars. Justin

The convenience of living in a small city would be the main reason if I ever moved there. Though for me where I am in Melbourne the better roads start about 30min away when leaving early for a blast, so not too bad and no excuse not to get out. First world problem is which vehicle to take... Currently been favouring my 92 Gixxer for my every 2nd Friday RDO (took a pay cut to go 9 day fortnight) whilst it's been dry.

Do you go solo mate? Or have a good reliable crew to join you? I've got a few Sydney folks that are solid for drives, but I am more often invited to groups that do little more than bench racing (shit talking) lol it seems to be a Sydney syndrome!

POST 31Original post

Oh - I wasn't saying I don't drive - I was more explaining why the social runs don't seem to happen that often in Sydney compared to elsewhere. I live on the blue mountains door step, i'm not short of runs, I just do them by myself mostly. One run years ago used one of my local cafes as a waypoint. Sounds about right

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 373626

I concur and am in a similar boat albeit I'm northwest and I think you're west(ish) - my first traffic light is 20+kms away and I can drive in a loop of first left then first right for the next few turns and it's 65kms all without a roundabout or traffic light.  Great curves etc but the roads right now are Unimog only with pot holes, centre ridges (sump removal devices) and enormous crater like edge subsidence. But even before all of this current weather, there have only been a few drives I've become aware of (or perhaps better interpreted as 'invited to') that were in Sydney in the past 5 years.

Geez, takes me nearly an hour to meet up for one of Arnie's drives. Time spent on the drive and anything up to two hours home again. The time spent getting there is worth the thrill and camaraderie . Though I do feel like Melbourne guys are more willing to travel for enthusiast events (IMO)

POST 35Original post

You poor sods.  I don't like to brag (but I will) - I've got a former Targa Tas stage pretty much 5 minutes from my garage door, and I live on the edge of suburbia.  In about 1 1/4 hours I can do a loop that includes 3 TT stages and a heap of great driving roads....... That's why all you mainland buggers keep on coming over here 🙂

espresso = a 'shot' (single dose = 30ml) of coffee chai = spiced milk powder used to flavour water or more commonly milk.  Can be added to an espresso. decaf = decaffeinated coffee latte = the way the milk is silked and stretched and then ultimately poured in to drinking vessel mocha = chocolate powder added to a shot of espresso and then milk is added to that mix cinnamon is rarely used as sprinkles given it's over powering flavour and fragrance. What you have expressed there Lee is utter nonsense 🙂 This short video will give you the various options....(Steve Martin's request is also nonsensical and it's what makes is such a good scene)

Yep - 12kms from Penrith in a southerly direction. The thing is most Sydneysiders don't even realise how big our city is - part of the reason that anyone West of Annandale hearing themselves described as "Western Sydney" rolls their eyes. It'd be the same as me calling Gosford "Northern Sydney". Anyway - I'll make you a deal. I'm happy to organise a run or two provided no-one minds if I turn up in my WRX Need the all paw action for the goat tracks our roads have devolved into.

POST 41Original post

The Sydney scene has always been quiet, at least for me, and for some strange reason I find myself going on drives with Melbourne guys far more than any local to me. I find it is more that most of us are just sitting back waiting for someone else to organise something.

Where in bleak Van Diemen’s Land do you reside? Yes the roads down there are magnificent fun.

POST 43Original post

Quotes source posts: 373712, 373722

Sorry, I hadn't noticed that at all 🤣 Yes, the Sydney basin is a large one. Lots of large tracts of green space (thousands of acres at a time) as well and the road network doesn't distribute us quickly anymore. The issue you'll have is the clearance of undercarriage to road crown. You really need a SUV. Low powered is fine cos at any real speed you'll not be able to avoid all obstacles 😳 I can drive the Evo and we can drive in convoy, us vs them 🤣 🤣

POST 49Original post

All this talk makes me want to head out for a drive ASAP!

POST 50Original post

Coming from Northern Sydney, sorry "Gosford" I have a few options around here that get me a 100-120km loop and only a few taffic lights and minimal freeway cooling off periods. One thing is I can get from home to Canberra and see 2-3 sets of traffic lights as long as I do not mind paying for the priviledge. Noticed a lack of NSW based runs so have taken off on a few from here to Canberra and back via Batemans Bay etc for a full weekend run. Have seriously thought of a trip down south to join one of the drives down there. Haven't managed it yet, but 2022 isn;t over.

POST 51Original post

Prior to covid there was solid group of "northern Sydney" types coming up this way for a circa 300km run taking in in Mares Run/Nowendoc via the Oxley Highway.  A few of us here on the mid-north coast and Tamworth area would then tag along.  I'd be keen to go again anytime soon...

POST 53Original post

I've been wanting to do the bucketts way / thunderbolts way to Walcha, then down the Oxley to Port for several years. Haven't got around to it though obviously. That is 600km one way for most Sydney-siders.

POST 54Original post

Quotes source post: 373865

If you're down South again drop me a line, I'm near Bungendore. Re no Sydney runs, obviously I don't live there, but have spent plenty of time driving to Sydney recently.  Seems to me that you only have to get yourself to one of the motorways and then it's usually a fairly easy run out of town.  Granted the Northern beaches is a bit of a pain to get out of, have a good motorcycling mate there and he does hate the 'commute' to go for a ride but still does it.  Main thing is just to get over the mental block and hop in the car/bike and go. The poor state of the roads is definitely an issue though, same around here.  Apparently the Tarago to Nowra road which used to be a great ride/drive is now a minefield.  On bikes you have a bit more latitude for avoiding the potholes, although the consequences of nailing one can be more severe.

POST 55Original post

Quotes source post: 373947

Yes, did the Nowra -Tarago - Canberra run 4 weeks ago, it’s definitely not Porsche territory at all. Potholes, washaways, ruts, gravel & rocks, going to be some time before it’s fixed as well. All the roads around here (Berry, Kangaroo Valley) are f#@ked.
