Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just picked up a 2001 996 convertible and the engine latch doesn't work unless you have two people. I need the wife to hold the button up while I left it. Any ideas on how to fix this issue without having to bring it to the dealership? Thanks

POST 2Original post

On mine it was a simple adjustment of the rubber bump stops to increase pressure on them when the lid is closed, that way when you pull the release lever the lid "pops" up and stays unlatched.

POST 3Original post

Pull the airfilter box and there r 2, 10mm bolts that hold the latch. Lossen to adjust. U may want to find the safety release cable before adjusting. That way if the latch is stuck (electric soliniod doesnt pop it) u can pull the cable manually to release.

POST 4Original post

MY rubber bump stops were rock hard so didn't push the lid open when i pulled the latch, made worse by the fact that my engine hood has a spoiler so pretty heavy compared to a non spoiler car, after several adjustments of the bump stopslater i bought new ones which seem to have done the trick...

POST 5Original post

Did you get the ones with the pads at the top, kind of like a mushroom, or just the rubber threaded stud type?

POST 6Original post

Mine have the pads at the end, P/N 996 512 987 00.
